Same. Must be targeted as I needed to renew today and also showed $79.95. Used a key I purchased elsewhere and it offered an extra month of Xbox Live if I turned on auto renew.
Just turned it off afterwards.Shows up as $53 when I log in.

Mine is also $79.95, but the 3-month subscription is $17.97 (instead of $29.95)
I’d encourage you to log in as mine dropped to 53 once I did. One thing to note, in the terms it looks like it will automatically hit you up for the 79 next year.
Option to manage this is in the email you get confirming subscription
Thanks for the tip, I logged in and it changed to $53. Also noticed it set up auto renewal, but after the purchase was complete still on the microsoft page I clicked the "manage" button and was able to cancel auto renewal there without having to open my email.
Mine is showing $79.95 :(
