  • Just to confirm, you have to recharge with Optus, not Woolworths Mobile? You just buy the phone at Woolies?

    • +2

      That's correct. You can purchase the phone anywhere that sells them in specially marked box. Added link to original deal in OP now. Terms:

      Available to new customers who purchase a specially marked box containing an Optus X Sleek, Optus X Smart, Optus X Spirit or Alcatel A3 online or in-store, activate the included SIM and on their first recharge, recharge with $30 or more from 02/10/17 until 04/02/18, unless offer extended. For info on available plans and pricing, see optus.com.au/prepaidplans $50 EFTPOS card available for activation within 24 hours of recharging with $30 or above. $50 EFTPOS card must be activated by 31/03/18 at optus.com.au/optusgift.

  • I guess the phone will be locked to Optus. How much is charged to unlock the phone?

    • Too lazy to check yourself.

    • a little known fact with locked phones is u call up the provider, tell them ur going O/S & need 2 use other SIM cards & they will unlock it for u or send code to do so (network unlock code)… enjoy..

        Sure, for the right price.
        I have tried this and also known people who have tried this and they wanted up to $80 to unlock it. That was calling the provider, live chat online, going in store.

        • maybe 2 many ppl brodened in the past. Used to work with ALL providers i know of… I'll call optus & ask them to unlock my X-Smart… Worst case, most providers used to unlock after a certain amount of recharges (in value, iirc)…

          @Bunsen:
          It seems now you have to have the phone/broadband dongle/tablet etc for a period of months before you can get the unlock code from them?

      • U need to stipulate that your going Overseas btw.. NOT changing providers etc…

        • +1

          Given the subsidies on prepaid phones this is not likely to work, but feel free to post your success stories.
          Additionally, most "new" phones will cost an added premium to unlock.

        It may or may not work. Sometimes it does, most of the time it doesn't. More chance if you've been with them for long and the more services you have easier it becomes.

      • Read here guys… this is from the Optus WWW. If you have owned ur phone & recharged regularly for 6 mths it's FREE.. Otherwise $25-$80, that's when i would pull the going overseas card out…

      • Well good news, 4 me anyhow. Did the online thing with Optus last nite requesting my unlock code, spat a msg saying that a CS rep will contact me. 2day received an SMS with the code 4 my phone. Only bought it around Xmas & spent $30 on 1x recharge 2 use the data in my iPad… It can be done without cost…!!!
