Hello fellow bunch of high-yield investors,

after tearing through all the rows in my excel spreadsheet, this model has been crowned as champion (well, actually the i5 model…cause I'm cheap(er) and I like the lower throttled CPU more).

Reviews for this specific model are scarce (plenty of positive reviews for the previous 14" with 7th gen CPUs), but we all trust Lenovos and their tickly nipples, don't we?
Disclaimer, this model doesn't come with a nipple; should a nipple be fundamental in your computer usage patterns, you should be able to find ~2 in your chest area (more or less, could be lower or higher; we don't judge).

Your 7th gen CPU feels slow already? Get a shiny new 8th gen CPU today to have the same performances you had yesterday! Yuppy! (Spectre and Meltdown vulnerabilities, if you don't know what that is, just update your PC and everything will be fine)!
No, seriously, they did a good job with this CPU series, if you can, get an 8th gen CPU.

I am not entirely sure if or not the display uses PWM (most likely not).
Also unsure about upgrade capabilities for this PC.
RAM soldered, likely to have an extra slot available, as Lenovo advertises up to 16GB. Not sure about SSD and Wireless module (but standard one has AC, so it will hardly need an upgrade there).

Having said that, the price is VERY GOOD!
Don't forget your 1% cashback (cause, yeah, you can pay the electricity for it for quite a few days with that cashback).

And if you, like me, are extra-cheapo, get the i5 model for 1223.2 + delivery here.

  • I still prefer the Asus Zenbook for $1600 over this…..

Same CPU but double the ram and ssd.

Also dedicated gfx….I think they are worth the extra.

    • You have the link to the zenbook ? Thanks.

Also, not possible to add more RAM for this model

      https://www3.lenovo.com/au/en/laptops/ideapad/ideapad-700-se…

      • This one - http://bit.ly/2EJJ8Gt

Yes it has no touchscreen, but I don't see the need of it personally.

I think it definitely gives more bang for your buck.

        • Don't want to hijack, but here the best price for the specific Asus model covered by this deal https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Asus-Zenbook-UX430UN-512GB-SSD-8… ($1919 delivered vs $1999 delivered).

That's the results of combing the entire internet on these models :)

        • @stampella: best deal without coupon is with computer alliance @ $1795.

          But best price atm is $1999 - 20% = $1600 :)

        • @mg_k: OPS! My bad…for some reason I had these under the eBay links with coupon. You're right!

        • @stampella:

Also there's a lower i5 version of the same zenbook for $1250ish.

Still has 16gb and dedicated gfx - def better than this Lenovo i5 version…..

        • @mg_k:
Struggling to find this one, is it on ebay as part of the sale or somewhere else?

      • Not entirely clear from Lenovo specs. The text blurb reports "up to 16GB", while the specs says 8GB soldered.
Configurations of 1 soldered + sodimm are not unheard of in ultraportables. However better clarify it with Lenovo before purchasing if a bigger RAM is needed.

    • The UX430UN was the other big contender. Skipped because of reported heavy PWM on the display (plenty of references for the current model with 8th gen CPUs).
Also it weights a tad more, and weight was one of the main selection criteria on my choice.

But yeah, value is definitely there too for the Asus.

      • Only 100 grams more for doubling the ram and SSD plus a dedicated gfx…. All for $250 extra….

I think that's definitely worth it.

  • Specs look good for the price but have had a bad run of reliability with the last 3 Lenovos purchased for family members.
