  • I'm looking for some smaller one (and cheaper, of course :) ), which can be used to give the keys of my house to my AirBnB clients. Do you have a product for that?

  • my postie is too lazy to use this

    • Auspost/Startrack have been pretty helpful at 'encouraging' contractors who are reluctant

I use AusPost's Parcel Locker service. Quite convenient.

      • Yep, much more convenient and it's free.

        • How's it much more convenient? Auspost parcel lockers I actually have to drive to 7/11 or wherever they are…
With these I don't even have to put pants on to collect my parcel

        • @aussie bob: I guess this depends how far away you are from the nearest parcel locker. For me, its only a 5 mins walk from my house.

  • Nice concept but won't work. All posties or couriers always in a rush, they not going to put in code to open the box. And also purchasing stuff from eBay, you won't know what courier they use so they won't get the pin.

    • +2

I do have one, and it works well enough. True that courier and posties do tend to ignore it previously. But I have since put instructions on it, addressed to deliveries. I’ve found that instructions has significantly increased its use, probably like 50% end up in the box 30% jammed into the letter box and maybe 20% collection. The ones jammed in the letter box are normally because they’re untracked and small.

The PIN is part of the addressing so the carrier will always have it. When used correctly it's faster than knocking on the door.

Agree that lockers can be convenient for some, but you are effectively collecting something you paid to have delivered and the collection time frame can also be an issue.

      • Convenient for me, the parcel lockers are down the road from my work so I just go by on my way home when I need to collect something

Quantumcat goes to parcel locker to pick up parcel… and doesn't.

          @MiniMoo:
You cant be sure unless you open the lid😁

    • I have one of these parcel boxes purchased for $45 when it was on clearance. To make it convenient for posties,I leave my parcel box unlocked. I have it located by my front door. I have a label on it that says "Parcel box is unlocked. Please lock once item is delivered". Posties use it regulary and I have never had an issue. If Im selling something on Gumtree and Im not home to meet the buyer, i just leave the item in the parcel box for the buyer to pick up and leave the cash in it. Its a trust thing, but i have not had an issue so far with dishonest gumtree buyers.

  • Good idea but customer placement is the key to it getting used well by the postie/contractor. Down front near fence and it'll be right. Up the stairs next to door, round the side etc and forget it, comes down to common sense by the customer at the end of the day imo.

  • Will Amazon's Delivery Drones be able to use it

  • Ironically AusPost refused to deliver it and I had to go pick it up when I bought one about a year ago. Then they refused to use it… So I moved house.

    • +1

Seems a rather drastic solution to the problem.

    • Probably irrelevant to you now that you have moved, but we have a contact with Auspost who will speak to your local delivery centre if you are having problems with deliveries to the box.

  • Youre still alive. Cool. I bought one of the $50 boxes, I figured it was a closing down sale.

Query: I didn't use it for 6 months and then when I tried to set it up I got no response from the default pin. Haven't looked at it since (it's in storage again.. All this is to do with moving house). Is it battery powered and could this just be a flat battery? I guess not but don't know why it didnt work

    • +2

We are! No we just had to move that stock in a short period of time previously so we sold them below cost.

The process for a flat battery (two AAA batteries power the lock) is to place a 9v battery on the metal surfaces around each led. Enter the code, open the door and replace the batteries. If it has been stored on the side with the lock or placed hard up against something this can flatten them- it happens during delivery from time to time.

      • Thanks :) I'll try it when i get it back out of storage in month or two
