These are awesome and the only thing that beats a Chiko Roll, don't go on sale all that often either.

    • This is the first time I've seen them for sale @ Woolies/Coles. It also comes with those paper sleeves to give it that authentic touch :). Beats paying $3 each at the Deli.

      • +3

a deli is where you buy your stras and hot dogs :)

chicko rolls come from the fish 'n' chip shop, the milk bar, or from carnies.

        • A cafe/takeaway store called a deli is quite common

  • -3

I had the opposite reaction..Had to throw them out as they were just gross.

    • +30

What country are you holidaying from?

    • +1

I had never had one of these - got one from the local chippy a few months ago: bleccchhhhhh….

      • +1

I still have no idea what it is…

        • +1

Like Chiko roll but filled with a roughly mashed up sweetcorn sludge.

  • -3

    Filthy.

    • +7

Oath! They are FILTHY AWESOME. Heh.

  • Just need some Breakfast Spring Rolls to come on special and that’s the meal plan sorted

    • Do tell, what’s this Breakfast Spring Roll you speak of?

      • Not invented yet, but think normal Spring Roll that’s rolled in white sugar.

        • +3

Or maybe a spring roll with bacon / egg filling?

      • +4

scrambled egg, bacon, cheese and pico de gallo wrapped in a oversized dimmie wrapper, deep fried and topped with sriracha and kewpie mayonnaise for a 100% authentic aussie breakfast.

        someone needs to invent this

        • I expect to see your kickstarter page by end of day. You have a gold tier pledger waiting right here

        • +1

          I've had breakfast burritos?

  • +3

Such a Corny deal, you'll get a good laugh out of this one OP.

    • They'll ROFL, for sure!

  • I've never even heard of these, what are they like?

    • +3

Pretty corny. Think of it as creamy corn in fried batter.

      • Mmmm I love corn. I'll give them a go, thanks :D

I thought that was a pun the first time I read it

    • Same batter as a chicko roll. Just creamy sweet corn in the middle.
      I rate them highly!

  • +1

had a chicko roll at the cricket the other day. all the memories of my misspent youth came flooding back…

…although im not sure how i'll sneak these into the fridge/out of the fridge into the oven/out of the oven into my mouth without my missus noticing and chastising me for it :(

    • +2

Next time you are outside BBQing, just chuck it on the barbie together with the roast and close the lid (convection oven technique). Have it with a beer whilst “watching” the bbq/roast.

    • They're half price - get his & her boxes! :)

  • I thought the original one had chicken in it all this time not beef :/

    • +1

For a Chiko roll? I never knew what’s in those things. Smells like spew in a sleeping bag left overnight. So I guess it could have been either Chicken or Beef.

      • +2

I thought it was mutton in a chiko roll?

    • +2

believe you are thinking chickadee - chicken and corn

      • oh man. memories in primary school canteen.

        • Schools wouldn't be allowed to sell them anymore. Poor kids.

        • Oh geez, I think I need to eat something. Blood sugar must be low. I read this as "Oh man. mammaries in primary school canteen."

      • OMG OMG OMG, i Love chicken and corn rolls, forgot about them and never had them since primary school .. do they sells the chickadee - chicken and corn in woolies or coles?

        • not that i've seen in my area

  • +1

Perfect timing with the coffee coke

  • +1

Are these just corn? Ie vegetarian? Or do they sneak some Ozzie gristle in there to make it authentic

    • +5

According to the ingredients, it does have “animal fat”.

      Ingredients

Sweet Corn (49%), Wheat Flour, Water, Animal Fat, Breadcrambs (Contains Wheat), Thickener (1422), Salt, Wheat Cereal, Acidity Regulator (450, Sodium Bicarbonate), Emulsifier (471), Spice, Antioxidant (320), Colours (102, 110).

      • +2

        gotta love me some BREADCRAMBS

        • -2

Really fishing for those positive votes, aren't you?

        • +2

          @Lorindor:

really found the need to make a unnecessary reply, didn't you?

        • -4

          @Bearosaurus:

That's gold coming from you mate, have you looked at your comment history lately?

        • +6

          @Lorindor: this escalated quickly.

        • -2

@xyron: YOU NAZI! Wait, too far?

      • Mmmmm, 1422 Thickener……

        • +1

Treated starch with acetic and adipinic acid

      • That's so dumb. Looks like they'd actually be vegan if it wasn't for the mutton fat.

    • +2

      @Hoju
There was definitely some chewy Ozzie gristle in there (size of a 10cent piece) and so it's never again for me.
I got my pack from Woolies.

  • Are they OK microwaved?

    • +3

Nuked they’re ok. Might need to turn down the power, for if they become too hot, their guts will spill out on the side. Oven is a little better…again not too hot, or same problem. Fried is optimal and old school…but who has a oil fryer these days? But then again, everything tastes better fried

      • +2

Thanks! Annnd now I want a fryer :)

        • +2

If you have one of those small metal racks that come with pressure cookers, put it in a pot, add some oil to cover the Corn Jacks and fry till done.

If you don't have a rack or anything metal to use, you can still fry the Corn Jack but keep an eye on it while stirring it occasionally so it doesn't burn on the bottom.

After our old fryer died, we started using a pot because it takes less oil and it much easier to clean.

        • +2

          @eyeballz2770:

If you have one of those small metal racks that come with pressure cookers,

I do! My wife absentmindedly put our pressure cooker on the stove and turned on the hotplate, wrecked it (and stunk!), so now I have to spare parts, thanks :)

        • +2

@nuchalis: Oh no! I hope it was a pressure cooker you were hoping to retire. :)

If you're thinking of replacing it, I picked up a Phillips All-in-One and we are very happy with it. The only thing to watch out for is the bowl insert has a lovely gold non-stick (THIN LAYER) interior. I was lucky to read a review on Product Review from a very angry woman who scratched the bowl with lamb shanks the second time she used it. We've had it since May 2016 with nary a scratch on the bowl, though, so it is possible to keep it nice. We work hard on keeping the bowl scratch-free, though. :)

  • +1

make your own. recently i made tortillas using french flour, leftovers (japanese curry and rice) and some cabbage, rolled it up and deep fried it. Chimichangas. Fresh is best.

Still a good price for the local aussie grease sponge

  • +2

If only they'd stop putting beef fat in the things. Unfortunately not vegetarian.

    • +1

That was my first thought but… are we really missing that much :P

  • +1

I love the picture on the box. So masculine.

    • +1

OMG! I was gonna get me some of that greasy, corny goodness, but your comment has put one of those get-out-of-my head images in front of me. Sigh.

    • +2

      Corn Jacks 50% off

  • Had a chiko roll for the first time recently and it wasn't good, I guess it's one of those things that if you grew up eating it then you'd love it but if you try it for the first time at age 35 then don't expect to like it.

    • It really depends on how it's cooked up. It seems fool-proof but the ones I've bought from takeaways over the years were a disappointment. Frying my own allows me to get it perfect for my taste.

      • +1

You don't even need to fry them, just stick them in an oven and they come out perfect.

Heaps of oil comes out of them anyway as they're partially cooked.

  • Corn Jacks are the best!! Cheers OP

    • No worries!

  • What sauces do you guys like to eat it with or just plain is fine?

Thinking of picking some up and trying it as I have never been able to try these things maybe only a chiko roll or two

    • +1

Plain for me. I don't think I've seen anyone eat these things with sauce?

    • +1

You don't eat corn jacks with sauce. Just enjoy them as they are

      • Ok thanks just wondering because I am a sauce kind of guy.

Pie with bbq or mayo, pizza with Tabasco, pasta with Tabasco, nachos with sour cream and Tabasco, etc.

        • Can't edit my post so doing a new self reply.

Just bought a box. Tried half.. it was ok but personally wouldn't go again unless I had it with some Korean mayonnaise or sauces next time.

Had to finish mine with soy sauce and sesame oil.

Yeah I have weird tastes I suppose.

  • +2

Did anyone just scoop out all the guts of these things, eat the guts separately, then stuff the hollow thing with chips to make a chip-o roll?

    Or was that just me?

    ?

    • +2

lol, just you. But I like the idea

    • +1

Pretty sure I have done this many times with food like this.. love the crusty bits. I do it sometimes with pies.

  • -1

I am greatly disturbed. Do u idiots know that a chico roll is supposed to be for ya dam dog ya silly sheep . You have been eating bloody dog food your whole live ya bloody dogs
