Kogan 55" 4K LED TV $499 w/ Samsung Panel - Smart Model also w/ Samsung Panel for $549 (Average Delivery Cost $30-45)

160

First post so please forgive any errors/duplicate post. Kogan quotes lowest price it's been. Same TV smart model here (https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-55-agora-smart-4k-led-tv-…) for $583.38 delivered (2000 Postcode used). Seems they have gotten rid of the 3-4 week delivery for the smart model. Know there are some mixed reviews about Kogan on this site, however both seem like decent screen's for someone that wants to save. I have a friend that owns the smart model as of November and so far no complaints.

No end date listed on site.

Thanks!

I've been using Kogan 55 inch SMART 3D TV since 3 yrs now and so far ZERO complaints - Yes, sound is very very low but thats fine for the price you pay - Just attach a sound bar and you are good.. I like the ARC feature as well..

    • Can vouch for their TVs.
I bought a 42 inch almost 5 years ago for around $250 and have not had a single problem since.

    • Good on you! I've had mixed experiences with Kogan, I've only every bought three things, a Camera, a Drone and a Galaxy S4. The Galaxy S4 had a motherboard problem within 2 months and my Drone (Phantom 3 4K) dropped out of the air twice. Must be my luck. Mostly they are grey imports, however the fact that the panels are Samsung make this bargain very tempting.

  • I got the curved 55" a few months back for under $500 and the sound is pretty decent in these newer models so it seems

  • How smart Kogan TV is? Never used it before. Is it running Android or what OS it is sitting on?

    Thanks

    • It says Android 5.1 in the overview section

I have this TV and it’s kind of pseudo-android. It doesn’t connect to play store and I can’t sign in to YouTube but I was able to load Plex from a USB stick (but not ABC iview).

Sound is perfectly adequate for this set (ie: to be expected) as in you can hear it perfectly well but not really enjoy it (my wife can’t tell the difference :) )

It takes maybe 30s to boot up (we use it for Plex and Youtube only so no idea about changing channels or inputs).

It developed a fault after a month and there are 5cms of coloured lines running across the bottom of the display. I am currently waiting for Kogan to ship me a carton so I can send this back.

      • Thanks Coxjon. I was expecting a real Android OS similar to what some of the Sony smart TVs have.

        • Yeah I have a Sony too and it’s vastly different in the OS

  • Anyone using these TVs for playing xbox / ps4 games ? Refresh rate is 5/6ms on these TVs, which is not too bad. I am looking to buy one for my entertainment room.

Response time is entirely different from input lag. So even though the response time is good (5-6ms) which would mean there would be very little motion blur, input lag (the time the TV takes to mirror movement made on your controller) could be quite high leading to a poor gaming experience.

Would need to hear from others that have purchased this TV, as input lag is generally soemthing that manufactures/sellers rarely (if ever) advertise.

      • Top advise, thanks mate. Let's see if anyone has experience regarding this.
Currently my Sony Bravia 50" is working just fine.

My mate has one of these, not sure if its the same model.
Input lag felt just a bit higher than my Sony which is 35ms input lag.
          Average but very usable.

  • Maybe amend title to $499.00 and $549.00 (plus shipping).

Shipping for me took the total to $540.67

    • Do you get free shipping with Shipster?

      • Isn’t Shipster only for not bulky items and les that $20 shipping costs?

    • Apologies, I calculated it for Sydney (2000). I also did Melbourne (3000) and it calculated to be the same cost, so I presumed it was a standard rate.

      I will adjust.

  • Please tell me they smart options are waaay better then they were 4 years ago….the 42" Agora 'smart' model from then takes ages to boot, and you have to wait for all the smarts to kick in and a "desktop" before you can even see a channel, roughly 15seconds.

To be fair we live with it, its for the bedroom and used about once in every 3 months - but if it was the main tv……of that generation/model…I would have used it to surf down the street long ago.

I'm researching for the old-folks for a replacement for their very aged Toshiba Plasma 40".

    THX!

  • The non-smart one only supports USB playback mp4 files up to 720*576….
    only 576p on a 55' TV… can't imagine how painful it would be….
The smart one looks good on this price but its only Android 5.1…
and shipping costs me $28.30 (Melbourne metro)…
How do you get free shipping?

  • is this TV HDMI-HDR?

    • No HDR capability at all.

Do you really want to buy a smart TV from a company with a CEO who says “I think all smart TVs are crap”?

    • +1

He's right though. Why pay extra for planned obsolescence when for less than the price difference of most non-smart/smart tv options you can buy a chromecast, nexus player, mibox, shield tv etc (depending on budget).

I love my nexus player, built in CC, android 8.0 and it cost me $99 delivered. When it becomes obsolete I'll just my the current mibox at the time.

all current smart TV's will one day become become dumb when the services and API's that make the smart TV work become obsolete, not updated anymore or are abandoned when they are discovered to have security exploits.

So the only way to keep abreast of new standards and continue using a smart TV that has updated security patches and hotfixes is to just keep replacing your TV's which is a sneaky way of getting you to keep buying stuff just for incremental upgrades.

    • You got negged but it is true. Fun to start with and then before you know it never an update. Smart TVs are only smart for a while, and then they are not.
If you upgrade your tv regularly that is fine, but if you keep it for years then a smart box costing a fraction of the TV might be better. Far easier to replace.

    • Wow, I had no idea! I mainly use an Apple TV, does everything I need it to. Mostly I use Plex, and that works great on almost any compatible streaming device.

  • I’m very tempted to buy this TV for the spare/kids tv room. I planning to use it with my Xiaomi Mi box so I don’t really need or worry about the smart capabilities of the tv unit.

    • Good idea, for the price point don't think there is a more suitable TV on the market.

  • I got 4 dead pixels in my Kogan T.V. hopefully 2 more die before warranty ends.

  • I got the 55 inch agora for $460 including shipping a few months ago and it's awesome value for the price, would highly recommend!

  • How are Kogan tv’s for use as 4K monitors? Mainly do they support 444 & low input lag.?

  • I noticed the "smart" model has 120Hz refresh rate rather than 60Hz on this model. However they seem to use the same panel? I would ideally like a dumb tv, but the price difference is so small…
EDIT: I noticed the smart model lists the "Computer Supported Resolutions" as: 3840X2160@ 60Hz. So its more likely the smart model has a typo in the specs.

  • Note that free delivery deals come up occasionally, while the TV generally stay the same price so if you're not in a rush it may be worth the wait

  • The link provided says that the price is $595 + delivery. Am I missing something? Note that the smart version is still $549 + delivery. Help? Thanks!

  • It's $595 now :(
