Arlec 100 Lumen LED Head Torch $5 @ Bunnings

920

Found this beauty in one of the Bunnings special bins.
Not sure how long the price is for (perhaps forever?).

For 100 lumens, I found it is cheaper than eBay or AliExpress

This Arlec head torch is great for general use both indoors and outdoors. It has 3 modes - high, low and strobe for every situation. 3 x AAA batteries are included.

100 Lumens
3 modes - high, low and strobe
Weather resistant
9 hours run-time on low mode
3 x AAA batteries included

Review, thanks to aussieprepper

  • any good for night time trail running/hiking?

    • +3

I used it for night work (installing door stopper on my backyard door), and it was good (I guess because this is my first LED headlamp, so no idea about the rest).

But for $5, I think it is still a bargain (I'm a bit bias, as I'm the OP haha)

I/N: 4410907 is case you are ringing round for stock

  • +13

you can wear this like a thong so the light is near your belly button

    • +1

      haha….

    • +3

Tightarse wears this back to front on strobe to warn of impending tightness.

      • +1

Are you sure he wasn't just going for a bike ride?

  • What sort of "situation" would require a 100 lumen strobe light attached to your head?

    • +4

Clearly you've never partied in Brisbane.

      • +5

        Untz…untz….untz…

        • Will this light get me noticed by all the women in the club?

        • +1

@montorola: not only the women, but also the bouncer and the police across the street

    • +1

First one that came to my mind… wear it with forearms out and with hands flattened vertically making rigid alternating movements while singing "domo origato mister roboto"

    • I can only think would be a function available to help to increase the chance of detection by aerial search parties if the owner is lost in the bush or something.

      • If they are wearing as suggested above with light on belly button, no chance they can be lost in a bush

    • 100 lumens isn't very much. Most computer monitors are brighter.

      • +2

Like to see you strapping a computer monitor on your head :p

  • +1

Prefer the use of AA batteries.

    • AA will make it chunkier (and funnier) to wear, I guess?

  • +1

I bought this yesterday, it's great, the light is quite bright (I didn't use the included batteries, I use Eneloops)
Plenty of stock in Bunnings Blacktown, near the registers.

  • it maybe 100L but bcos it has no lens nor proper reflector
it works like a flood light not real useful if you need it
    in one spot.
but for the price why not.!

  • +3

    Good head torch

Gives a nice even light output. More of a flood effect, but great for camping or working in dark places. The beam is around 3m wide and about 8m long.

  • Any good for fishing?

    • +2

How do you catch a fish with light? Are you a hippy?

  • -1

    100 lumen is darkness

    • 100 lumens is not too shabby for say hiking.
I already bought this bigger, brighter and more expensive AA-battery powered Gentos headlamp from last year's OzB deal (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/309652) so no need for this one.

this is a very handy tool, love it

If you’re in a roof, like myself who is apparently nuts, in summer months installing insulation (or similarly hot environment), just be aware these these get very sweaty, but honestly I’d happily (and will attempt to) but some of these because I always seem to lose the damn thing.

But thanks OP, decent price. :)

    • +2

      What?

      • +1

        Badly composed post, sorry.

I just meant the elastic head-band that goes around the lamp, and sits on the ol’ noggin gets sweaty very quickly in my experience; there isn’t any material to wick away the sweat.

I was using a similar head lamp on a hot day and it seemed to become pretty much saturated and a bit unpleasant to use. Also, I oft lose headlamps, amongst lots of other bits and pieces in the chaos that is my shed ATM, so buying a few cheapies to put aside is now on the shopping list.

Simple, use towel above your head (underneath the LED torch strap) and you'll be alright :)

      • Yeah, like a thin micro fibre towel isn’t a bad idea, just I can imagine it falling off. But something sewn on might do the trick; I guess that means I need to learn how to use a sewing machine, which considering I think they have lots of intricate parts may be frustrating considering my predilection for being fairly impatient with stuff like that.

  • Heaps available in the Footscray store (isle 4 - in a big box on the bottom level shelf where the torches are). They didn't have a price tag displayed though which was weird, but I am guessing they want customers to buy the other brands which cost 4+ times the price!

    • Same thing with Bunnings Northland when I went there last night (I meant, they have plenty there), but the price is marked clearly on this shop (thus the reason I bought it)

  • I bought this 4 weeks ago in Bunning Villawood for the same price. Took it for camping and very happy. Very bright and light. It's very useful when you have to go under the sink to fix the tap.

    • Or playing horror steam games such as amnesia :)

  • Just picked up one Frm bunnings

    Good price for a torch

  • 3xAAA will make it expensive and/or inconvenient to run.

At 100 lumens, 3W, you'd be talking less than an hour runtime.

(And overheating means the lumens will drop off.)

  • Windsor gardens SA has 20 or so - almost seems like the normal price

  • You guys reckon this is good for a bike light? (cycling helmet)

    • I think it is too bright for bike light

      • ?? I work outdoors at night and my head lamp is, from memory, 600 lumens. No way this is too bright for a bike light. 100 lumens isn't much.

    • Nope. Get a MagicShine setup. Aliexpress (and ungodly patience) is your friend….

  • Handy for bush walking, going to go up to Seacliff Bridge Lookout for some sun rise shots, need to start early and keep hands free to hold to things.

    • +2

When do a bush walking, perhaps worth run "Glympse" android app at the same time, to provide a realtime location of your whereabouts, in case you get lost

Alternatively, go with another friend :)

      • Thanks for the app tip, will keep that in mind when I'm out somewhere remote.

  • what another decent head light you guys recommend?

  • Thanks bought one just in case I need to work in the ceiling

  • Thanks OP just bought 4 (after searching the entire store because the dopes at Bunnings can't keep track of their inventory). They are super bright and have quite a wide arc.

  • Thanks, I will get one.
High brightness isn't that important IMO.
I use a headlamp a lot, like 4 hours a day, and always have mine on low power.
Mine is powered by 2x 18650 batteries, and is too bright most of the time.

  • I picked up one of these yesterday (actually needed one at the time too). It didn't work at first. I found that I needed to bend the metal strips that connect the batteries. Once working it was fine, but the build quality is exactly what you would expect for $5.

    Very bright though.
