    Where?

    • +3

      Melbourne Park of course.

  • +19

    Tomic….what a flog

  • +4

Will be Groth's last tournament, should be an electric atmosphere against the top seed

    • But he's the fastest server in the world

  • So just rock up or do we have to register?

    • +2

Just rock up. First in best dressed.

      • +1

Can you please update the post with this info.

        • Not enough room to add. Generally plenty of room.

  • +8

Good for a laugh if anyone wants to see Tomic lose.

“Good for a laugh if anyone wants to see Tomic lose.”

I thought that whingy little turd refused to go the qualifying route?

      • +1

"ill earn more money by been on Celebrity get me out of here"

        • That I’d watch :)

With his history, I’d expect that he would bail before they even arrive at the camp.

        • @jdr: breaks a fingernail and goes home to hang out with his fellow flog Kyrgios

    • not even worth it

    • He actually won decisively today. I bet a few bucks on him winning the match against some unknown player and that gave me enough money to buy a ticket for "real" Australian Open.

  • Wow, i didnt know that. Is that the same every year? Great for the family to experience the tennis without having to spend a cent!!

    • Yes. Plus you can bring in your own food and sealed plastic drinks. I think any food or drink stands are open.

  • Do the qualifier competitors even get ball-persons?

    • +1

      Yep I think they do

    • +1

Yep, they get ball kids, chair umpires and linespeople. Basically same as the main draw, just with normally slightly less linespeople and ball kids due to more courts being used.

  • +3

Tomic will probably whinge about the heat and retire from the match, or just not bother turning up

    • High chance on that. It's 33 tomorrow

  • +2

No Deal. Tomic doesn't like playing tennis.

  • How late are these games likely to go on for? Would all the games be finished by 4 or 5 p.m., or would there still be games going on after that?

    • Tomic's game starts at 3.30pm. go boo him for me.. FLOG

      • +5

Having previously worked at the Open for 10 years games can finish as late as midnight depending on weather and how long matches go for. Generally on the first day on qualifying there is 6 or 7 matches per court schedulded, so it generally goe pretty late.

        • +1

Bit different this year with the last set being a tie breaker.

    • Depends if their are matches beforehand, that go 5 sets.

      • Max 3 sets for Qualifying rounds - same as the ATP tour

    • Can take any time, nature of tennis.

    • Looks like you will be able to get to see the Groth match and the Tomic match if you leave now.

  • Bernhard? Tryhard!

  • +1

    See Bernard tomic……..

Where do I send the invoice to

  • Has anyone gone to these before?

Will there be a long line and will it be crowded?

Also is this actually inside the arena? I looked it up but melbourne park has tons of stadium. I'm confused.

    • No line. Some matches get busy depending on the player's quality or nationality but generally not full that I have seen.

The biggest court used is show court 3, so none of the other major courts. So mainly the back courts.

Is there a way to see how the matches are progressing and/or what time they are likely to go until?

Just trying to figure out if it's worth heading in after work.

  • +1

I got to catch some of the Tomic game on Show Court 3 before Tie Break Tens. Plenty of seats, no lines, half full crowd, good atmosphere. Thanks for the heads up!

  • +2

Thanks OP! It was my partners birthday yesterday. We ate some dinner on Swan St and then went down to Melb Park and watched the last two sets of the Ito/Ruud game on Show Court 3. At one point there was a heckler and security ejected him, which was awesome and unexpected considering the small crowd, but he game was being filmed and everything with Ball kids etc. Neither of us had ever been to the Tennis before so for something different this was very enjoyable.

At least now you don’t have to pay to see Bernard not try to play.

  • All matches only start at 10am? Ausopen schedule website has just timetables which starts at 10am. Can't make it in the morning and keen to visit there.

    • +1

No the first match on each court starts at 10am and their are multiple courts. For example the Bernhard Tomic match is the 3rd match on Show Court 3. That match will probably start at 2-4pm, depending on how long the first 2 matches go for.

      • +1

when's the latest match roughly? Is it all finished by 4pm?

        • +1

With the rain delays, they might play till late tonight. Bring a poncho or umbrella.

  • Not at the Open, but they have put a match on Margaret Court Arena.

  • +1

Gonna watch the t Paul vs b Tomic match at Margaret court in Melbourne park. Thanks for posting this, op!

It’s great to see it in person.
