i am pretty sure they use this to explore Mars.

  • +5

And we'll probably populate Mars well before being able to achieve the throughput this router provides here on Australia's disgraced NBN.

LMAO I think 4GX and 5G will be the way of the FUTURE.

NBN such a waste of money.

      • +1

So how much does 1 terrabyte download/month cost on telstra 4GX :)

        • +4

A lot cheaper if they didn't go the NBN route and spend nearly 100 billion dollars.

        • The cost of a one-way ticket to Mars.

        • +3

@wooldogs: forget it wooldogs, those billions are OPM (Other Peoples’ Money) and thus don’t count.
Let your grandchildren worry about paying it back.

Eventually the mobile networks will cut the legs out from under the NBN (barring protection imposed by Parliament), then you can say that you told them so.

        • @wooldogs: Much of which went to Telstra to buy a copper network that's falling apart from them.

Guess who got paid to "maintain" (fix) it? Telstra.

Malcom Turnbull appears to work for Telstra. Are you going to vote for this pig or his party next election? Since in the past the Liberal Party has committed war crimes by invading Iraq and got back into power the answer is probably yes but please prove me wrong.

          @Diji1:

Only you could bring up war crimes for a post about a modem.

Speedtest December 2017 Global Index. We are ranked 55th for fixed Internet https://www.speedtest.net/global-index

          Behind Kazakhstan

Doing well on mobile. Ranked 7th.

        • @Diji1: everyone got duped by Bush/Cheney. It's not really fair to single out Johnny Howard.

Johnny spent all his political capital doing the things he believed in, right or wrong, i.e. GST, gun control etc.

Turnbull never did nothin for no one.

    • These speeds are nice if you have a NAS, considering it's pretty hard to actually even to the proposed output of these devices. I have an AC68U (AC1900) and I get 1000Mbps maximum really.

      • Do Cat 5 v 6a make much difference? RAID0 AND RAID1 would help to.

        • Cat5e and Cat6 are not for speed but the difference is in shielding. Over long distances and in areas of high interference Cat6 is better. Most household usage cases are fine with Cat5e.

        • @p1 ama:

Cat6 will do 10gbps provided your nics are 10gbp capable which I doubt.

        • @JAKEBAB: Yes, but I doubt we'll see 10Gbit in homes or small offices for years. Very few home tasks require more than Gigabit and equipment for 10Gbit is horrendously rare.

Even if you have 10Gbit NICS, a switch will still set you back over $1,000. Might be some use case connecting 10Gbit to a file server and then having Gbit clients.

        • @p1 ama: Try $350 unmanaged https://www.scorptec.com.au/product/Networking-Wired/Gigabit…

Well considering 10Gbe NICs have come with enthusiast hardware for the past year or two, and now even on Apple's iMAC PRO, I don't think it'll be as long as you'd think.

        • @JAKEBAB: That's only two 10Gbit ports though, real 10Gbit switches (i.e. the ones with like at least 8 ports) are still horrendously expensive. To be honest, I don't know, I think everyone cares more about wireless these days.

    • The thing is routers usually go at about 5% of their theoretical maximum over wireless.

      • If this were true, wouldn't it be false advertising?

        Also, this is not true.

        • Its exaggerated true. I've never seen more than about 500Mbit over Wireless AC.

  • Great modem. Have it, love it. I get a link speed of 28mbits/sec on a Telstra 25mbit/sec connection. I can realistically download at 3 Mbytes/sec so it's actually givinge what i paid for.
Multiple wifi networks works well, as does using a single ssid for the three concurrent frequencies.
Note, this has no VoIP output (for those who still have a landline phone) BUT with a small amount of messing around, you can plug your telco's router in in bridge mode and use that for a VoIP connection.
