    12 month minimum term

  • 12 month minimum term added

    Thanks Catchy :)

    • +18

good thing he caught that…. and you were very snappy in making that change.. :P

  • Is the $10/month credit only for the first 12 months? Does it come with no data charge for streaming spotify and netflix like optus has?

    • +1

$10 month credit for the term of the contract ie 12 months. Telstra does unmetered content for Apple Music and AFL/NRL, not Netflix or Spotify

      • Thanks for confirming

      • +3

$10 a month credit is forever. Every JB person has told me that.

        • Interesting Telstra direct told me it wasn't.

        • Same. It's stated on the contract too

        • +1

JB told me that $10 credit is forever also.

        • @naira:
Maybe the person I spoke with wasn't in the know. I guess it would be until you recontracted or left then.

        • +4

Doesn't matter, after 12 months data will be a whole lot cheaper anyway, get new plan!

        • +5

$10 credit is until you recontract, so anytime in future you change the plan, you have to negotiate for that credit again, no guarantees it will be applied again.

        • +1

          @amshopping: amshopping is 100% correct.

        • Yeah, they'll say anything to get you into bed :(

        • THEY ARE BOTH RIGHT, LET ME EXPLAIN

they discount is avaialbe for the contract period (12 months in this case) but no netowrk ever removes the discount from my experience.

Now telstra used to, it was leverage to keep you contracted but that was a while back.

    • +8

The $10 credit is valid as long as you stay on that plan 👌🏻

      • I work for Telstra

        • I am on Telstra prepaid and I have 4 unused $40 vouchers can something be done about those?
So I don't lose money want to go on a Telstra Plan BYO

        • @SlipKnot:

          Sell them.

        • @SlipKnot:

The vouchers are non refundable or transferable to post paid, I would suggest selling them to recoup your cost if you are planning on moving from prepaid.

  • -5

What is the 10 bucks for? International calls? Is that like only 10 mins?

    • Op has a valid question. Rather than negging, simply reply.

      • I know… Some people….

  • I presume this is Telstra wholesale network? Anyone know?

    • +7

      Full Telstra network.

    • +1

They are a Telstra reseller it’s not a mobile virtual network operator so you get the same reception as if you went directly through Telstra 😀

  • +1

    Optus gives me 17GB for $30. mehh…

I live in a metro area so Telstra is not that much faster and we're talking speeds which just aren't necessary for mobiles.

    • i’m on $40 with 17gb with optus but they do free ongoing data share sim, telstra wants $5 per month …. but i have friends for who the apple music streaming is important not spotify.

does telstra have international roaming like voda for $5 per day ?

speed in regional areas … optus was faster tried both sims ….. think it’s because regional users buy telstra so tower was lonely for optus users.

      • No they don't. They have one for about $10 a day but includes 200mb only and doesn't allow your plan data

      • The free data share sim was discontinued ages ago with optus.

        • i was told free data sharing was gone ( needed an extra sim) they gave me the extra sim as ( about 12 mths ago) and it’s still on their web sites for some of the plans as an option.

  • It was 200$ gift card 2 weeks ago when i got this deal. But yea FYI the porting was super quick and pretty easy to get approved.

    • +1

Do you just walk into a store and ask for the deal?

      • Yep, didnt need to show them anything.

    • Mine took 8 days and multiple conversations to port…

  • Only if this deal would allocate some free credit for international calls. It's still a great deal though if you don't need international.

  • +1

I believe it's $10 per month to add unlimited calls to the standard 10-15 international countries.

  • +2

Anyone know if they'll allow a port from Boost to qualify?

    • -3

Yes. Ports from BOOST, BELONG or any other Telstra reseller are allowed.

    • +2

Goblues31, unfortunately that's incorrect - that is classified as a Pre-Post UPGRADE and NOT a port, so you'd be ineligible for the Gift Card or the $10 port in credit. FYI - this exclusion extends to existing Telstra Prepaid, Postpaid and Boost customers (I think this has been covered a few times before).

      • +1

what about if I port out and port in? Is there any limitation about how many days being 'off' the provider? cheers

        • there is no way that they would know about "days".

        • +2

30 days since we see the previous "Disconnect" in Siebel - we CAN view this port out request.

        • @Dealhunter967671:

Belong, Aldi Woolworths ect.. should get the offer as they are classed as MVNO’s and do not have a Siebel/Telstra account number.

Boost on the other hand is directly managed by Telstra systems and would be classed as a Pre to Post

**** Just saw your reply above 👌🏻****

        • I did the previous JB deal with the $200 gift voucher -> $59 Telstra F&F plan. Ported from Telstra to Optus. 2 days later ported back to Telstra, my messagebank was still working :)
Done in a JB store with online access to Siebel. Seamless process.

        • @Dealhunter967671: was there any terms & condition about this '30 days'? I can't find the fine print.

        • @garylau: internal rules for eligibility

        • @Dealhunter967671: I believe internal rules doesn't have enough ground to be enforced. As long as the JB staff accepted, then we'd have very strong position to get the gift card (or worse come to worse to cancel everything, on the base of "misleading" offer)

      • Hi, what about Woolworths Mobile?

  • +1

    I prefer the Telstra $39 for 20GB.

    • +6

$10pm off over 12 months = $120, $150 gift card for the 12 months = $150, so presuming you will Shop at JB, your net cost over 12m is $468 ($39pm/12m) vs $438 ($49pm/12m - $150GC). This deal is technically better value :)

      • Haven't shopped at JB for many years. I'd prefer to save money each month (even if it is $30 less over 12months) and shop where I want to shop.
Hate being forced to shop somewhere, especially with gift cards - which probably expire after 12 months.

        • +5

JBhifi gift cards don't expire at all now.

        • @snappy1234: Can confirm; mine allegedly expires in 2116 when I checked the balance online (got it for the Google Pixel 2 deal from last month)

        • @snappy1234: Until the company goes out of business thanks to Amazon.

        • +1

          @idonotknowwhy: yeah all important…

Wonder if they sell Visa gift cards :)

        • @snappy1234: I had to go back about 5 times to convert my Coles vouchers into Visa gift cards. Had to wait for inexperienced staff members.
I doubt JB staff would allow it :(

        • @idonotknowwhy: Remind me and I'll send you a message if I see anything on Amazon that actually threatens JB.

Amazon US maybe, AU hell no.

        • +1

@voltagex: Yeah I know, and was kidding. Amazon was a big disappointment.

        • They should just go hide back in the jungle

    • what plan is this?

    • where do I get your deal. much prefer to spend $39pm

    • Where do you get this deal from?

    • +1

I signed up for this plan when they had a $200 gift card, then immediately switched to Telstra Mx plan which is $39/mo with 15GB.
No cancellation fee was charged as I was switching within Telstra.

      • so we can take up this deal and then switch? sounds to good to be true 😀

        • I did it by calling up Telstra, maybe ring them before you make any commitments.

        • so we can take up this deal and then switch? sounds to good to be true 😀

Yeah, closest I can do is take this deal and then buy a switch with the voucher.

    • Link? I'd prefer that too.

    • +1

i can’t get this deal, has just been on chat with them for 50 mins. best was $39 for 15 gigs BYO, 12 month contract.

      • Thanks, you saved me a lot of time while I'm busy today. I'll head to JB now.

        • +1

happy to help. i signed up with telstra anyway as the per gig cost wasn’t all that much difference ($2.50/gig for JB and $2.60/gig for telstra). 15 gig for me should be more than sufficient and 20 is excessive so i was happy to save $10/mo. telstra’s offer also comes with 6 month free apple music which is awesome.

        • @gnoks: Does Apple Music work on Android? (Might be a stupid question but idonotknowwhy so whatever)

        • +1

          @idonotknowwhy:
Yes just download apple music from play store.

        • @idonotknowwhy:

Yes it does and works very well.

  • I saw this at the store yesterday but it was for $200 gift card.

    • what happened to $200?

      • Got replaced by this deal. I was at the JB store looking for a cable and saw the big sign up touting this exact deal except it was for a $200 gift card.

  • I ported a number over Tuesday and got $200. Wednesday it changed to this deal.

  • Wait what? I can't bring my existing Telstra prepaid number over to this plan. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

    • +1

Need to port to Vodafone or Optus + their resellers first.

      Then go see JB hifi.

      • +1

Bit of missed opportunity for Telstra prepaid customer base. I'll stick with my miserable 1.5/1.5 for 30 plan :

Moved from a voda plan to Telstra as there the only carrier who has signal where I live.

        Thanks for the reply snappy

        • Plenty of Telstra Network MVNO’s to choose from.

  • +2

I don't understand why data cost is so high. In some countries, 10GB only cost $2 for prepaid.

    • Cost of backhaul

    • +1

      Where?

    • Which countries? Can't compare us to 3rd world ones.
We actually have it pretty cheap.

      • +2

True, our data prices are pretty good now.
It's stupid for people to compare us to other countries, Australia is a massive country, cost a lot of money to setup Cell phone tower and running cable (NBN etc..)

      • Let’s not forget not so long ago telcos were chasing Grandmas out of $30,000+ for $0.01 of excess data.

      • Are you sure? Backblaze has complained it's data is too expensive with the monopoly Telstra holds.

      • among the developed countries, Australia indeed has cheaper mobile data.

      • Also worth noting that all 3 aus telcos are averaging speeds with the best of them.

  • pretty good but the kogan one from a few weeks ago was much better. ~$23/month for 12 months for infinite call, sms and 23GB per month.

    • +2

Kogan uses Vodafone network, you will be banging your head against the wall.

      • +1

No, I won't. Vodafone network is still much faster than my internet connection at home. If it can consistently play 480p videos without buffering, it is more consistent and better than my home connection so extra 3 GB for ~$12 less a month is better for me.

        • +5

Sound about right, because no one is on the network, so you better not advertise for people join vodafone network.
Also their reception is horrible if you drive further away from the city.

        • you're happy with 480p streaming?

        • @jayzorz: On the bus on a small screen it really doesn’t bother me.

On the TV - No it needs to be 1080p
