Exped Megamat 10 LXW Camp Mat $239.90 @ Snowys

220

I've been wanting one of these for a while based on the fantastic reviews it gets. Finally the price is right..

Introducing a new generation of self-inflating mats, the Exped Megamat 10 LXW provides a sleeping surface that is completely level, right to the edges. These mats are perfect for campers who want luxurious sleeping comfort, but are limited on transport space.

A velvety face fabric laminated to hollow cored foam has a minimal packed size, expands to a massive 10cm in height, and provides superior insulation. FlatValve technology incorporates two separate valves for easy inflation, deflation, and adjustment of the mat pressure during use.

Exped is an innovative Swiss brand who stand by the quality of their products, which is why each Exped mat is individually tested for airtight integrity prior to shipment. All mats are designed to withstand 5 times the pressure attained during normal inflation, and they back their products with a 5 year warranty.

Now with the addition of a smart pack sack, with a roll top opening and an adjustable carry strap for easier transport – the Megamat 10 LXW from Exped is the simple choice when it comes to quality and comfort.

Huge 10cm thickness
FlatValve technology for easy inflation, deflation and adjustment
Velvety honeycomb finish face fabric
Individually factory tested for airtight integrity
Incudes mini pump inflation aid.
Smart Pack Sack carry bag, and repair kit included

  • I bought some sleeping bags a while ago and a tent today, is this ncessary? Never camped ever yet.

    • You can get something a lot cheaper but whatever it is make sure its thick.

You likely won't be able to sleep without it, rocks and hard ground aren't comfortable.

      • Somehow they seem to break the laws of physics. Mine is 7cm and I can lie on my side without my hip touching the floor or any pressure. Amazing.

      • I've tried a 5cm one on a concrete slab and can honestly say it would've made no difference if I were just sleeping on the concrete. Definitely shoulda sprung for at least a 10cm…

    • You don't necessarily need this, but having something to keep you off the ground will make the night far more pleasant.

    • Since you never camped, Ill let you know the effect of a sleeping bag on the tent floor is usually moisture between the two. So lay something between tent and ground, it has nothing to do with the outside water coming in, but its condensation..

These airbeds are supposed to be the ducks guts airbeds. Most airbeds are awful IMO, havnet tried these to know if they are worth the premium, but IIRC from my offroading mates reviews, these are not like sleeping on an airbed… which is a good thing.

Snowys had this one for $199 in November, and $279 for the duo.

I wouldn’t really call these ones air bed but more a self-inflating mat (ie. with high density foam inside that’s bonded to the surface),’with the added benefit of being able to pump air in to customise the hardness to your comfort level.

      • I bought some foam mats from Bunnings — I'll see how they go I guess. I'll buy the mats if they go cheap.

        • If you layer the foam mats and buy a cheap self inflating mat and a yoga mat it might just be enough. Test your tent before going

Having tried quite a few airbeds and sleeping mats, including the thick 10cm 4wd ones, I can safely say these are the bees knees :)

They’re bulky to take with you but actually smaller and lighter than most others of similar thickness.

It was so comfy that my son & I used it at home for 10 nights straight whilst we had visitors over. Never once did it require any re-inflation.

    • seems to be the consensus…

We have the 9cm thick ones and they are the best! We are slowly getting rid of our 4wd mats and replacing them with Exped mats.

Camping off a motorbike offroad, I use a Exped DownMat 7LW (Long Wide), it cost $188 on sale about 5 years ago, money well spent… The feather down in it makes a HUGE difference in cold weather, warm and no condensation issues…

Cheapies are ok if you're only using them occasionally (and in warm weather), if you're doing extended trips it's well worth investing in decent quality, gotta sleep well…

Edit: it's worth keeping an eye on these guys, they often have good sales: (change the currency to AUD)

  • Is there anything like this that is 1m wide? Or at least 900mm? I'm looking to replace a daybed mattress

    • They come in a Duo version too but out of stock and also not sale atm. It’s 1.3m wide though.

      https://www.snowys.com.au/megamat-10-duo

      • Yeah it's gotta be in the range of 90cm-100cm (preferably 100cm though)

I looked through snowys during the last post but didn't see anything. But i don't camp, so I figured someone more knowledgeable might be able to help

  • If you have the space, I'd recommend the duo, even if you're a single person. The packed size is not that much different, and it'll make a great bed for guests at home.

  • I see that the sea to summit comfort mat is also on sale ($20 more) at snowys.. anyone have experience with these mats and could provide their thoughts on the difference..? I have a set of the lighter hiking STS mats and they are excellent, but need some more luxurious mats for car camping and can't decide between exped or STS… https://www.snowys.com.au/comfort-dlx-si-sleeping-mat-lw

  • Another convert, bought one last year at this price. It replaced a foam mattress in our camper trailer, and after a week of camping at Moreton, it's by far the best camping bed we've used. The Black Wolf Mega Deluxe is very good - however if the Exped Megamat 10 is 10/10 (err bad run of pun), the BW MD would be 8/10.

  • I bought one reading the previous ozbargain post on this. They are expensive, but definitely the best of the four (different ones) that I have.

  • Anyone know if this is the 2017 version?

    • +1

Yes, because it now comes in Red and also description states it has the side opening rolltop for the storage sack.

      • I thought Green was released with the updated version. Green version is listed as Out of Stock for $339.95

        • Apologies you are right, green is the new colour in addition to the original red. So the other difference would be the new rolltop side opening bag.
