with those prices I understand why they're closing.
EDIT1: I havent seen any mention of them closing shop, just a warehouse clearance.

I don't see anything special? Where are the cameras from $99? The cheapest one I can see is the Nikon Coolpix S3000 for $139, but it's $138 at Dick Smith.

Same with the Sony Bravia 46" LCD, $1399 at BBB, $1397 at Dick Smith.

Nothing there that I couldn't find virtually the same price or cheaper

        No bargain.

im signed up to their newsletter and they sent me about it

    • Didn't know this store existed until I saw this post.

The clearance prices are somewhat abysmal..

  • yep… trying to get rid of old stock and quoting rec retail on these items. looking at canon and panasonic digital cameras as an example (only because I just bought one and know what prices and models are out there), they are no where near competitive. i can see why they are closing down.

  • nowhere does it say that their uncompetitive prices were the problem

    talk about delusional

it's the competition, its the strong dollar, it's softening demand, never shitty pricing…

        you've completely misinterpreted his post.

          yep- apology below

      • +2

talk about making excuses for them….

I think he was just repeating their excuses (ie, what it is that makes them delusional….)

      • +1

i think you are agreeing with me

i am saying that article and Thorn themselves are delusional given they won't admit their pricing isn't right and even to the end they can't bring their prices in line with the competition

kogan and gerry harvey and good guys and bing lee and seconds world etc are still around

if business is bad, surely it would be bad for everyone and not just them

It's about time they're closing down, there's just no way people living in metro areas would buy from bbb unless it was substantially cheaper than good guys etc

  • Some of the prices are okay, dad wanted a small tv - $200 for the Bush 22" is pretty good.

    • The Bush 22" LCD:

      I received mine yesterday, 4.57PM Saturday 18.12.10.

It doesn't seem to work and when it occasionally looks like it will work like a normal TV, it freezes within minutes.

Did anyone else get this 22" Bush? It was $189 at the end of the weekend of Dec 5.

I'm seeking a return auth note per the BBB defective product returns policy.

      • At least you received yours… I'm still waiting for my product to arrive. Called numerous times and lodged multiple tickets, if I don't receive it by tomorrow COB I'm just going to charge back.

Tracking through Allied Express is ridiculous, been on hold for 30mins and haven't gotten through to anyone. Add to that the BBB call centre seems to be closed and just goes straight to voicemail, what a pleasant experience.

While more competition is a good thing, I think that when a traditionally bricks and mortar store makes an attempt to compete in the online marketplace, it can go either one of two ways. They can do their research and get an understanding of just how web-savvy frequent online shoppers are, or they can jump in blindly and think that they'll do okay with whatever prices they decide to go with.

From a quick browse of their site, it looks like they've got a few things with decent pricing, but I can also understand why they didn't become more popular. It's a shame they didn't put more research and effort into this as then they may have survived longer.

  • with all the other sales on now…..I dont think they have good prices…

  • Well it says they are closing down their online retail … but I think they are keeping the stores … :S

Wondering if there's no pressure on the closing down sale because they can then just continue to sell off the stuff through the stores :(
