I've had the 32L version of this for a couple of years now and I will never go back to a turntable microwave again. So much easier to clean.

At this price this is a bargain even if it is from Catch.

  • Last time these Panasonic flatbeds came up, I think there was some discussion that the menu was fiddly or annoying to use?
I think perhaps it was that there was no simple instant cook option?

  • does anyone know if the bricks and mortar stores will price match catch (e.g. TGG)?

  • Noooo it's sold out! :(

I had a Panasonic flatbed. Literally one of the worst products I have ever owned. Ultimately threw it in the bin even though it was 'working' fine and bought a normal microwave for half the price which is infinitely better.

    • +1

      Why?

      • +1

My guess is it was not heating food properly and/or evenly for them.

      • It literally did not cook properly, despite costing 2-3 times what a normal microwave costs. Parts would be smoking and other parts cold. This thing spins an element below the bottom surface of the interior but whatever it does it simply does not work properly. If you google it this is a common issue. The concept of spinning the food while the magnetron stays still is already optimal and does not need 'improvement' of this kind.

Now have an LG that is excellent in every way.

So here is a HUGE tip.

People instinctively place food in the middle of the microwave.

However, this model fires the magnetron at a reflector under the middle of the unit, and the reflector spins underneath.

So if you place food in the middle, the waves have to bounce back to get to your food. Will take longer.

PLACE YOUR FOOD AROUND THE OUTSIDE.

      Should be much quicker.

      • +2

Small problem, unless your bowls/plates are 5cm across YOU HAVE TO PLACE IT ACROSS THE MIDDLE.

        • Use a different plate, or no plate at all if you can.

But if you have to use big square plates, then this is not going to work for you.

          • @tunzafun001: Panasonic's main selling point for this microwave is literally "look how you can fit big square plates in it because there's no platter". So "just use tiny/no plates" is a 'solution' that undermines the point of this microwave existing.

            No More Boundaries
No longer do you need to restrict your microwave experience to round plates and bowls!
With our Flatbed Microwave, you can utilise the whole surface space, meaning rectangular dishes are your microwaves new best friend! Bring on that lasagna!

It's just a flawed design that deserves to fail.

Snagged one. Too cheap to pass up and needed a new for a while. Thanks OP!

  • Heads up on the panasonic microwaves sold by Catch, I bought this exact one a while back. Bought 2 actually, one for me and one for my folks. Both seemed to be refurbished / not pass quality check ones. As they had vibrations and really loud / noisy fans, which when i looked it up had been one of the reasons for returns back to panasonic (normal retailers) . So i am not sure if people returned them then catch bought and sold the returns.

    • That is super dodgy if correct. Pretty sure it would be illegal to sell returns are new

      • Catch gets a lot of their items (or at least they used to) from returns or outlets / items that the retail stores cant sell etc), it is true it should be listed as returns , refurbished, and i know catch does list some items like that at times but this isnt the first item i have bought from catch which was a refurbished item but not listed as such. I dont think only catch does this, there are other larger stores that do this as well at times usually online stores ( I believe people have found Sony online to do this at times), I have found Dell to do this once to me before with a monitor i bought.

        • Wow standards are slipping. Probably best that Catch close then.
They lost it years ago anyway

          • +1

@King Tightarse: My worst experience with Catch was when they used to sell hubba bubba bubble gum and then one batch or maybe many batches after some time were fake ones. As In i used to buy them every now and then in bulk from catch, and then one batch i got which was a bulk purchase so A LOT, ended up being fake. The wrapping, texture had all changed dramatically and the bubble gum deteriorated in the mouth within some seconds, so instead of chewing, you ended up eating the whole thing…..

I reported it multiple times, they did nothing, just stalled and kept selling it.

    • You can easily tell the difference between refurbished and normal by the direction of the word "invertor" inside the microwave. If the writing faces towards you (the way it should), it's not a refurbished unit, its new. All refurbished models have the inside base plate rotated, so the writing faces in the wrong direction.

In saying this, its possible someone at catch screwed up and put returned items back to new stock.

  • Easy to clean clean clean
You can push stuff into it while talking over phone :)
Must buy if you got children at home. Highly reommended

  • Panasonic flatbed microwaves are the worst I have used. Uneven heating, takes forever and a dodgy door that didn't close properly. Replaced with Sharp flatbed and couldn't be happier with the decision.

Using it for nearly three years. We never had such problems. Just curious if you have tried to replace or repair under warranty?
