    The better game this year.

Great career mode with good progression, WNBA mode and decent post release support with new jerseys added and missing features like roster and player editing recently added as well.

The game plays so well too.

      Yep.

2k really dropped the ball this year with the gambling/pay to win mechanics of their game.
      Really stuffed it up.

EA deserves a lot of credit for really picking up their game. Here's hoping it continues, and gets back to the point where THEY were the undisputed kings of NBA games and 2K were the tryhard newcomers. Live definitely the better game this year.

      • So this is the one to buy over 2K?
My son buys 2k15, 16, 17 and was looking at 18, time to change hey?

Does this have the same players etc, not just made up players and teams.
Son only plays career, not online against others.

Definitely go this one mate. Same players, same teams.

I've been playing these games on and off since NBA Live 95 and Bulls vs Blazers. I don't buy them every single year, but I bought this one this year because it's a noticeable improvement.

The 2K series is 'different' to Live, so just be aware that he might not like the change.
But if he's a huge fan of 2K, then believe me he'll be disappointed in 2K18. Do a quick google search on reviews if you don't believe me. They've made it so you have to pay extra money to actually progress meaningfully in career mode. Sure you can slug it out, but there's a definite focus on "pay to win" and causing the player frustration to go ahead and spend.

And since a lot of kids (along with big kids) play this series, I don't like that at all. It's preying on those that don't have the self control and understanding to realise what's happening. Very poor form.

        • @UFO:
I wonder if there will be a big outcry like there was with EA star wars? Sounds like 2K has done the same thing.

Can you change player stats, clothes etc like you can in the old 2K games?

        • @PVA:

To be honest I don't know. I've only bought EA's one this year so can't give you specifics on the new 2K one.

Yep, MASSIVE backlash for Star Wars too :(. A real shame because I was really looking forward to it. Greed is creeping into paid games because it's just accepted/tolerated in 'free' apps on mobiles.

If I'm paying full price for a PC/console game, you can bet I'm NOT going to pay another cent just to enjoy it more. No way.

        • @PVA:

Have a read of this story for more information on the backlash of microtransactions withing 2K (and other Activision titles published). http://metro.co.uk/2017/10/18/activision-has-a-patent-on-usiā€¦

The game purposefully frustrates the player into spending money on upgrades. Not good at all. Big business for them.. US$3.6 Bil from "in game" purchases.
I will second guess each and every future Activision title purchase because of it.

  • Might pay to check the us store if you are subscribed to that region. Picked up this game for 9.95 us$ last week. Might still be on special.
