  • Anyone compared them, roughly volume-matched with JBL Xtreme and UE Megaboom? Or even Bluedio BS-5/US?

    • Not sure about the speakers that u listed, but these are louder than the JBL charge 3 which is a competitor to the sony's.

      • Thanks, but what about sound quality? I don't need particularly loud ones

Good sound with a nice depth to it … sounds like its coming from a much bigger speaker

  • I have a blue one and would definitely recommend it! But lemme warn you - it weighs nearly 1kg hahaha

Also found a link for $117 delivered but it's a store return without original packaging:
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Sony-SRS-XB30-Portable-Bluetooth…

    • Yea that one doesn't come with the packaging and it's also shipped from Chicago, USA.

Not bad for 229 delivered (Melbourne) if u need to pump it up at 60 Watts RMS

its really only 40w on battery, and 60w when plugged in main power.

Would've been better if they put in a micro usb charger instead of a dedicated wall charger.

    • Totally agree, that was a deal breaker for me as I want to be able to charge my speaker when I am out and about using my Xiaomi power bank. Funnily enough the XB-20 has micro-usb charging port, so not sure why XB-30 has a proprietary charger.

      • +1

Probably because of higher power requirements, this speaker was also probably designed before usb type-c was a thing.

        • That might be it. XB-30 has 24 hrs battery life vs only 12 hrs for XB-20.
Also, a heads up to anyone buying these Sony speakers, they don't charge while playing music, which is very annoying. They do sound really good though.

@billy_bob: I stand corrected about not charging while playing music. They actually do, but the charging indicator doesn't light up, as per Sony website: "The unit can be charged while connected to the supplied USB AC adapter, even when playing music. (The CHARGE indicator will not light up.) However, as charging time may vary depending on usage, we recommend turning the unit off for best results."

      • They do last for up to 24 hours on a full charge, so it should be enough for a day's use.
