The idea is to conserve electricity. I think they'd prefer you to hang your washing outside in the sun.

      • That's a bargain …

      • not so easy here in QLD, high humidity and storms,

        • Really? I have no issues drying my clothes outside or inside, all year round. Though I live in Brisbane, I imagine it can get more humid further north.

    • Washer driers are included.

You can always use solar, aka a clothes line

  • So whats the cheapest airconditioner unit you can get paired with this 'deal'?

  • Disappointing - apart from small fridges (fridge top, freezer bottom), hardly anything is 4 star and over.

    • I just bought a top mount fridge (freezer top) with 442 Litre capacity, it has four stars.

      • Out of curiosity, do you prefer the freezer on top, or you dont mind and thats just how the that model fridge was designed ?

Ive always preferred bottom mount freezers - as I open the fridge 10 times more often than the freezer - and its easier to reach the items between waist and eye height (without crouching or bending over) so for me its prefect to have the fridge at this level with the much lesser used freezer below.

And yet top mount freezers seem more common… maybe for technical reasons its easier to build a fridge with freezer on top.

        • Yes that would be correct. The cold from the freezer compartment flows down onto the fridge compartment, so from an efficiency perspective, with a top mount it is much easier to achieve a desired energy star rating.

Of course a bottom mount, as you say, is much nicer to use. I reckon I wouldn't let my vegies go off as often if they were at waist height rather than ground level.

      • Thanks mate - should have specified that I'm more interested in a side by side or french door design as pretty much all of the larger capacity fridges are of this design.

  • I noticed some air cons are listed as being QLD specific models that have to be wired back to the meter box so Energex can remotely disable them during peak grid load (eg hot days) - is this a new requirement?

    • Not requirement just an option. I wouldn't want the government controlling my AC.

Warning for everyone who are considering to take advantage of this to install aircon of the potential health risk of smart meters. Per the American Cancer Society, "it is possible that smart meters could increase cancer risk" Unlike mobile phones, you cannot turn it off. There is no turning back.

    https://stopsmartmeters.com.au/tag/carcinogen/

Per engergex website, they will give you cash (lure) to install a network monitoring device is an advanced (or 『smart') meter that records electricity usage in 1 minute intervals. It includes a meter, a modem and, where necessary, an antenna. The network monitoring device will remain on your site indefinitely.

Make sure you opt out of their PeakSmart Measurement Program for your safety and that of the community.
    https://www.energex.com.au/about-us/contact-us/frequently-as…

    • also on cancer society website: "the amount of RF radiation that someone would be exposed to from a smart meter is probably much lower than the amount that they would be exposed to from other sources."

i should throw out my wifi box/mobile phone first i suppose.

      • -1

You missed a very important word in that sentence: "… a smart meter is PROBABLY much lower than the amount that they would be exposed to from other sources." They don't know the long-term health effects.

There are other frequencies being emitted that are not published publicly.
        http://emfsafetynetwork.org/tag/smart-meter-radiation/

If you do a quick search on google, you will find many people falling ill after exposure to smart meters. For example
        http://emfsafetynetwork.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/Sympt…

        • 'probably much lower' is them expressing they can't speak for all people.. yeah, if you live shirtless in a cave a smart meter probably would expose you to more rf than usual. or they are remaining ambiguous because they can't test every meter ever produced.

they don't know the long term health issues, doesn't mean there are any.
we don't know the long term health issues from pokemon go or fidget spinners, or taylor swift.

          .org does not equal fact

google results does not equal fact.

try google scholar.. find anything interesting.. please let me know.

btw I did not neg your comment.. i don't mind the assertion, i just want facts/science/logic to come before belief.

i'll keep an open mind to the idea.

    • Smart meters use a 3G/4G modem, just like the mobile phone that's probably in your pocket right now. Stop reading FUD sites.

      • So they are RF devices and would be constantly using power? I thought they may have been some sort of powerline signal like I think they use for the tariff 33 etc.

        • They're ultra-low power modems - the power usage is negligible (we manufacture the modems for some of the current rollouts).

Forget about the rebate for a moment, why has the QLD coat of arms got a deer with antlers on it?

  • -3

I wonder how they validate these rebates? I bought a fridge 26/12 :( - 5days before the rebate kicks in. Would they just look at the receipt for dates or would they check with the retailer (Harvey Norman)? Was thinking if they just check the receipt and are doing lots daily one might be able to slip through the cracks haha - wishful thinking???

  • +1

Looks like we can't apply for the rebate yet? Am I missing something?

    • +2

You're not missing anything, they're just a bit slow.
If you like, you can sign up to receive a notification as soon as applications are open.

  • Has anyone received a response to the sign ups yet?

    • +1

no. It is still saying coming soon

      • Thank you, I was wondering if I was just out of the loop.

  • I picked up my new Fujitsu 2.5 KW air con (5 Star, with WiFi for remote/smartphone control) from the courier depot this morning.. now to look for an installer…

Still no word on when registrations open..

    • Hey, it is govt. Good intentions with no effing clue on delivery.

Did you know we were getting a bottle deposit rebate in July, like SA has had for 50 years? Well, good luck. They haven't even developed a system for it or even selected a provider.

You're a champ! I had nearly given up checking. I never got notified either.

    • +1

Yup, just got the email from them - finally!

    • +1

About damn time. Submitted my application at 9am.

      • I bought my new aircon early Jan but it's not getting installed until next Friday - do you need to have the install completed before submitting the claim ?

Aircon is Fujitsu 2.5kw with WiFi for a bedroom/study.
Found a licensed electrician to install for $525 on AirTasker

Total installed price after rebate should be ~$1,100

        • Nope. They just use your Energex/Ergon meter number so you can technically make the claim and sell the AC without install if you wish. $550 seems to be the going rate for install these days.

  • Application was approved yesterday and rebate is to be paid within 7 days :)

    • Rebate received.

      • How many days since you lodged the claim ?

        • It was lodged on the 19 Feb, so less than 2 weeks.

  • +1

Email arrived yesterday, money has also appeared in my account overnight.

  • +1

Yay - the aircon I bought in Jan just got installed today (took me a while get around to arranging the install)
Edit - just lodged the claim - pretty simple.

    • +1

And 3 working days later I get an email saying rebate approved.
      Not bad service.

      • +2

And money is in the bank.

Submitted Friday. Rebate approved Wednesday. Money received Friday. 1 week turnaround.

  • +1

rebate approved on 7th received 9th March washing machine

  • +1

Applied on the 13th got email saying rebate approved today so 2 days.Pretty happy.

  • If I purchase both a 4 star fridge AND washing machine in the order, can I claim the cashback on both items or only one item?

  • Applied 18 March, still haven't heard anything after 12 days.

I'm guessing it is probably to do with the fact I don't have a meter number, as my electricity is bulk via the body corporate.

  • Anyone been knocked back yet? I.e funds Ru. Out

  • When I try to make a claim I am getting a 403 Forbidden error
