Got sent this Dell special offer - up to $500 off Vostro 430 business desktops. The following for $1,599:

  • Intel Core i7-870
  • Windows 7 Pro 64bit
  • 8GB DDR3 NECC
  • 1TB SATA
  • Dell 24" P2411H LCD
  • 1GB nVidia GeForce GTS240
  • DVD Burner
  • 1 Year NBD Onsite service

Pretty happy with the Vostro/Optiplex desktops around the office (especially with Dell's onsite service that replaces your dead hard drives right on your desk). However is this a bargain?

  • very similar computer + screen from msy (pick up) would cost u around $1150 built (-70$ if u build urself) without windows

so it depends if the dell service package(very valuable to some) + windows is worth the $450 to you.

i used the whirlpool $1,110 gaming config and changed it to meet the cpu/ ram/ gpu of the dell

        • CCPU Carlingford charge $40 when you've bought the parts off them.

I think they do it for $80 if not.

  • horrible crappy video card for the money

  • The single best thing about Dell is the warranty - it's the difference between having a tech at your home fixing your comp the next day, or waiting a month after sending it back to the manufacturer before they finally get it back to you.

  • I built the following for less than $850 a couple of weeks ago:

    Core i7 860 $219
    Asrock P55 Pro/USB 3 $115
    Asus 4350 512mb $45
    LG dvdrw $35
    4gb Kingson DDR 1333 $66
    1tb Hitachi 7200rpm hdd $59
    Thermaltake V3 with 450w PSU $70
    Dell u2410 24" monitor $185
    Wireless network card (abg) $30

Video card isnt as good and ram is only half, plus no OS and no onsite warranty.

Still prefer to have the extra money in my pocket.
