Turnigy Rechargeable Battery AA 2550mAh NiMH A$1.50 (prev. $2.55) at Hobby King

780

Cheaper than the Eneloop deal. Free shipping for orders USD$50 and above. They also have Turnigy Rechargeable Battery AAA 900mAh NiMH for the standard price of A$1.09 each.

P.S. Got 25 each of AA and AAA. Worked out to be exactly USD$50 and got free shipping.

That's some cheap LSD right there.

  • +3

Cheap it is, but the postage kills it unless you order 25 each.

    • Well, the postage cost for the Eneloop from BingLee shows $12 for me, $9 for this deal (Adl). I Was initially considering buying multiples of the Eneloop AA 2000mAH 2-pack with charger for $5 each but this is a better deal IMHO.

    • +5

If you don't need 50 of them, you can buy LADDAA 2550mAh 4pk for $8.

      • +2

I got some new laddas. They are very good cells.

      • Does ikea ship them?

        • +1

Not for free. If you happen to be close to one, pay $2 a battery.

        • @lostn:

I think he asked because he was shipping distance away.

        • @aboabo:yeah I live in country Victoria a long way from the nearest store.

      • I went to Ikea site, they only shows 1000 or 2450 MAh for AA
However I want AAA, and there is 500 and 900 MAH. Which one I should choose? I want the one that keep charge for long.

        Many thanks.

        • +1

          900

        • +1

          @docpol:lol

        • +1

mAH stands for milliamp hours - it's how long the battery should last for. Volts stay the same, so the bigger the number the better.

      • How do Aldi ones compare with these? $5.99 for 4.

        • I've read bad things about them from other users here, such as leaking. No experience with them myself, I'm just repeating what I've read.

        • I have several packs of Aldi's both AA and AAA (two years in for some). No problems with them to date and have proved reliable. I also have eneloops and rotate between them.

    • +2

I hate hobby king shipping. I can order equivalent batteries or spare parts from Banggood / Gearbest for RC / drone stuff and $0 shipping. Hobby King to me appears to be just branded items that you pay extra for.

      • Except if you use a coupon, you'll have to use those batteries one.battery.at.a.time.

  • +3

Im happy with ijea laddas lol.

  • I was running low on AAA batteries ( lots of kids toys). This is perfect timing.

Did the same as you OP

    • Yeah I did the same thing yesterday as well, initially it irritated me why I couldn't apply the free shipping but then it clicked it meant US$50 as it didn't specifically say it in their free shipping terms and conditions.

I've bought a decent amount of the Turnigy's before and they have been really good batteries so far, can't complain at all.

  • I've been happy with my Turnigy batteries which I purchased years ago from Hobby King.

I now have Eneloops (both Sanyo and Panasonics), Turnigy and Amazon Basics (the good ones that test like Eneloops). I may have to grab some Ikea Ladda ones next to round out my collection.

    • +2

      Don't forget aldi

Have aldi and eneloop. Turnigy is my next set of order.

      • Ah. I'd forgotten about Aldi. Thanks.

      • +1

Wasn't happy with the Aldi's. None of the 2400's I bought reached capacity when I tested, all around 2000.
The AAA's were all under as well.

    • Imedion by Powerex is my favourite rechargeable AA. Imedion claim them to be 2400mah but my LaCrosse smart charger when I do a full discharge shows they can take 2700mah of charge.

I've heard good things about Turnigy, though never owned any.

I rate eneloops and aldi about the same as both take 23-2400 mah of charge and last well.

      • Ah. I'd never heard of them. I use a Powerex Maha charger for my LSDs and love it.

  • Thanks grabbed a dozen to replace older ones

OzBargain upvoting a rechargeable battery other than Eneloops? I'm speechless…

    • +8

Blame the collapse of Dick Smith. Many of these are mostly rebadged Eneloops anyway.

      • +22

It was a sad day when dick flopped.

        • +2

Yeah, he went all flaccid and then things just went downhill from there…

        • +2

          @MathNerd:
You can say we were left unsatisfied….

        • +1

          You're happy when dicks around?

        • +1

          @Kangal: Unsatisfied and unhappy 😋

        • @F-22:
          How would you feel dickless?
          Would you be happy?

  • +1

    I am a bit confused:
    - is it a US company? Should I pay by USD or AUD?
    - When you say USD$50 for free shipping, but the site is in AUD. Should I pay with 28 degree, or can I just use AMEX?

I have never bought from Hobby King.

    Thanks for clarification.

    • +3

Chinese company. 28 degrees to be safe in case of conversion fees, it's not a high value purchase.. not worth risking a few amex points over more expensive conversion fees.

      • +2

Actually hobbyking is an Australian company, that happens to based in HK. If you watch their vids on YT, you will notice their offices are in sunny Sydney.

  • Does anyone else sell those C and D adapters like Eneloop do?

  • Awesome! Did the same thing as you OP

Now gonna cancel my bing lee order

  • +1

Has anyone tried the ones from Aldi's as I am interested what they are like and how much are they?

    • +1

Yes, noticed it was one step down from eneloop in terms of battery capacity (flashlight battery had to be recharged quicker compared to when it was eneloop) but the price more than makes up for it.

Don't know the current price though. They always hard to find in my area.

    • +1

Aldi rechargeables are okay as batteries. I have used both the AA and AAA sizes, but I only paid attention to the capacity of the AA batteries - they have a little more than standard eneloops.

In terms of price, they are excellent. $5.99 per pack of four, for both AA and AAA sizes. If you are asking someone else to buy them for you, make sure you specify they the pack is green and says "Rechargeable", because Aldi sell alkaline batteries too.

I've been to three of four Aldi stores, and the rechargeable batteries aren't at every checkout. Check the closed checkouts first, so you have some before you get in the checkout queue. Or you could get to the cashier and discover that there aren't any at your checkout.

  • Can anyone recommend a good battery organiser? I can have so many batteries floating around depending on how much I’m using. My collection is almost exclusively AA and AAA.

    • Biscuit tin is the usual one

    • I've got plastic battery containers and Yat hold 4AAs and the Ikea charger that holds 12 while charging them

    • I use these

    • I bought an ezy storage conatiner from Bunnings, has a top tray that stores batteries that need charging and down the bottom the charger and charged batteries are stored.

    • +1

I've tried to find something like this so that my rechargeable are evenly used, but can't for the life of me find anything like it and no one I know has a 3D printer!

      • That's a nice idea. I have a 3D printer. I'll check out Thingiverse for ideas.

  • will these charge with a standard Energizer battery charger please?

    • +1

Yes will be fine to charge with a standard timer based charger but you will get greater battery life if you use a smart charger

      • Would you consider the nitecore d4 a smart charger ?

        • Yes

      • thanks

      • 100% agree get a smart charger. It isn't that expensive.

I recommend as well the d4 or i4 nitecore chargers. Worth it for the price.

  • +1

I have a few of these and they lose charge over time unlike my eneloops. I've tried re-cycling them etc but no go

    • Do you mean they self-discharge over time while not in use?

    • +1

Same here. Maybe I was spoilt by eneloops, that can you can use months after charging and they are still well charged.
These batteries seem to have good initial capacity but they lose charge over time faster than eneloops.

  • 25$ postage for 4 batteries.. ill pass

    EMS Express to Australia 1g - 499g A$24.28
    Delivery 5~14 days

    • and $0 postage for 50 batteries.. ($USD50 total) so it really does appear to be geared towards that bulk purchaser..

      • oh. i see. thanks

  • Are these batteries good for say Bose headphones? Also i have a LiitoKala battery charger. It says it has a 1000mA charging option, but these batteries are 900mAh for AA. Also the AA batteries are 2500mAh so does that mean the battery charger won't work? Thanks

    • Which LitoKala? If it is the Lii-202 the default setting is 500mA which is what I select for AAA. Press and hold the current button within 10 seconds of inserting the battery to switch to 1000mA to charge AA

      • Okay thanks, so when i'm buying batteries as long as the battery is equal or less than 1000Mah it will charge? Is that the general rules for voltages and stuff, sorry i'm not savvy

        • If you are just charging NiMh batteries charge AAA at 500mA and AA at 1000mA and you will be fine. Don't charge AAA at 1000mA the current is too high.

        • @adr8: the AAA are 900mAH and i can charge at 500 mAH and the 2550 maH is okay at 1000 mah? I musn't be getting it lol

        • @defmay: Yes that will be fine.

      • I do exactly what you said on the lol202 and works great

    • If you charge the 2500mAh battery 1000mA then it will take 2.5 hours to fully charge assuming the battery is fully discharged (2500/1000).
If you charge the 900mAh AAA at 1000mA then it will take nine-tenths of an hour (54mins) to fully charge.

I like to charge my batteries on the lowest current as this reduces heat but obviously takes longer. Just set a timer and forget about it.

  • Thanks OP… i've purchased a heap load mainly for kids toys - free shipping, great! Just got myself a Nitecore D4 charger too!

  • can't get free shipping to work….

even with $50USD……. is it cause the AA batteries now on backorder?

    • Yeah probably. AAA still in stock but AA out of stock in AU and global warehouse.

  • +2

Choice rates coles rechargeable as the best (above enloops) and only $7 for 4 aa.

    https://shop.coles.com.au/a/a-national/product/coles-brand-b…

    • +4

You do realise that if this turns out to be real this may end the ozbargain eneloop love affair and begin a whole new romance!

Get in on Coles rechargables before the price goes through the roof.

These things will out perform crypto currencies if you invest wisely.

      • Evolution my friend

      • Wait till they find out ALDI icecream is the same as connoisseur :)

    • interestingly the AAA (The ones im after) dont have the choice rating.. bummer

      • No seems they only did aa but wouldn’t stop me getting aaa’s. Enloops actually came in 10th place.

    • The Coles ones appear to be lsd also!

    • Has anyone used the Coles rechargeables? Any good?

      • Wondering this too. And whether Choice is trustable.

Do they rebadge someone else's product? Because Coles doesn't manufacture their own stuff.

        • I think choice are about as unbiased as you could get but still not perfect. I never agree with their coffee mach8ne reviews.

In case your wondering this is how they test their batteries.

          https://www.choice.com.au/electronics-and-technology/cameras…

        • +1

          @thegrinch:

It's not their bias that's in question, but whether they have the technical savvy to make recommendations like this. Someone found out that LADDA were rebadged Eneloop Pros. I am questioning whether Choice have the technical nous to discover this kind of thing, or if they are just writing and reporting for a non-sophisticated audience like say lifehacker.com.au. How deep is their knowledge? Anyone can just run surface level tests that may not tell the whole picture.

        • @lostn: yeah as I said not perfect but I think you’d have trouble finding a better comparison. They obviously have some tech savvy too, just based on how they test. At the end of the day if you can find a better comparison I’d like to see it.

        • +1

@thegrinch: I'm just saying, it's hard for me to believe that a budget priced LSD battery with a supermarket brand (the least regarded brand) is the best rechargeable battery. Coles isn't capable of making them. If they're rebadging someone else's battery, I'd expect it to cost more. Coles brand goods are cheap and nasty compared to more reputable brands. If they are good, they wouldn't be cheap to make, or cheap to sell. Someone would be losing money, or margins.

    • It's only 2200mAh. Ladda which are $1 extra are 2450.

  • +1

I can't get free shipping. Put 50-80 USD of AA and AAA in cart, but still $30 shipping. Is it finished now?

    • +1

      Same…

Tried just 50 * AAA from Australian Warehouse but still $12+ shipping.
