Any deals on a horse & saddle combo to go with these?

    • +6

Horse and Jockey Sold Separately lol

      • How much for the horse?
I always wanted one for Christmas…
… and I have been very good!
        🎅🎄🐎

    • Wow what an expensive shoe when full price. Good no idea about these ones - are there shoes real good?

      • +6

        Yes

      • +1

I am not aware of any other boot formed from one piece of leather. Legendary boots. Though I prefer the leather sole version.

      • +5

They are very good for a certain style market.
In terms of good for feet, sports joggers are more comfortable and work or hiking boots are more durable and waterproof.
But as a fashion thing they are very respected and the height of timeless fashion in rural areas.

        • +2

as a fashion thing they are very respected and the height of timeless fashion in rural areas.

          Seriously?

        • -2

as a fashion thing they are very respected and the height of timeless fashion in rural areas.

That just sounds hilarious. Didn't know rural people cared about fashion

        • +3

Also these boots are known for their durability …

        • +3

@smuggler: Possibly a matter of perspective. I'd imagine teenagers with their arses hanging out of their pants and wearing running shoes is the epitome of fashion for some also.

        • @Diji1: Not really. Mine developed a crack/cut across the side and they are refusing to repair it.

I own two pairs of these and the whole durability feature is just pure BS and marketing hype.

        • @antler: very same thing happened to me :(

Cracked without any wrongdoing from me after just over a year. I had to send them in and some person looked at it deciding it wasn’t their fault. They offered me $80 off a new pair’s list price (so still far more expensive than Nungar). Pathetic.

        • @Risto:

YOu're just envious of their youth.

        • @smuggler: it's wasted on them!

      • +7

I work in an office (but am very mobile) and swear by these. Mine are at 3 years and are still in awesome condition, tons of mileage left too. Now compared to any shoe I ever bought for $150 or less, which only ever lasted me 6 months before being so worn out they're going in the bin, I'm well in front financially. Then factor they're very fashionable, almost timelessly so, and the factory sell them for $300 if you're lucky enough to live in Adelaide, it becomes hard to see how any self respecting ozbargainer wouldn't own a pair.

        • +1

Unfortunately not as good as they use to be since they moved the tanning process to China.

I have a 10 year pair that just needs polishing, though some stitching is starting to come loose.

My 8 year pair, after the tanning process move, is absolutely falling apart, polishing it makes it looks nice for a week… chips of leather has came off from all over.

Based on what I see/hear now they're not that great past 5 years now.

        • @Baghern: Yep, I agree. I’ve lived regional with these in a mining town and they just fell apart. So much for rural wear.

      • someone else should confirm or deny this, but I do believe R.M. used to resole their boots for free when the time comes, which adds a while lot to the value proposition.

        • +1

No, they charge you a minimum of $150. There are different levels of resoling. The price only goes up.

      • No, look elsewhere. They may have been good once, but there are better ones out there (see comments above).

    • +1

For that price you’d want those included.

  • +1

I also wouldn't mind getting an Akubra, awesome deal OP!

  • +7

Comfort Craftsman is better buy imo.
    Pity no black or brown.

I have the black ones at home.

    • +1

What's the main difference? They look really similar…

EDIT looks like these are more rounded on the toe area

      • +2

Chisel Toe on the Craftsman and Round Toe on the Turnout.

Craftsman is the original RM William Boot that we know and love.

      • +1

Turnout has round toe vs chisel toe of craftsman.

    • Fingers crossed there's a sale on these, soon!

  • Looks great but Is it heavy to walk? Looks like!

    • -1

If you're a small person then yes.

    • -1

If you’re a toddler then yes

    • Yes. You notice how heavy they are after you swap to runners afterwards.

  • +7

Perfect for Long walks through Penriff Westfields

Bought a black pair of these for brother's 21st years ago, with all the cleaning and polishing gear, then ordered him to look after them.

Brother was out with a friend when his car broke down and got stuck in mud. Friend was a very helpful kind of friend; always reliable, handy and first to help anyone. When friend got out of the car to fix car problem he told my brother to get out too to help push. Brother responded that he could not as his new boots would get dirty! Yes, friend had a meltdown … but still fixed the car. When I heard about this I did say to him, well, you could have taken your boots off.

    True story by the way.

    Merry Christmas 🎅🖖

Brother responded that he could not as his new boots would get dirty!

You sure you don't have a sister? =p

      • Now, now, now … only 3 brothers!

In those days they sometimes actually listened to me!

One brother once said the trouble with me is that I always think I am right … but the trouble for him is that I always am! 😊

      • If your Mum has a beard, you’ve got two dads

    • +1

I wish you were my sister.

      • Aw, thank you. They were what he really wanted at the time.. . Expensive then too.

    • +2

haha these boots were made for country work… unless you got him that stupid indoor smooth outersole…

      • No they were the real humdingers (real R.M.Williams back then) … He used to wear them going out too as they were his favourites.

  • Anyone know sizing for these boots, if they run small or large?

    • +1

one size down from your usual US shoe size

      • +1

        Full or half

        • +3

          1 full size.

I am 12 US and 11 RM Williams with normal width.

      • AKA as the UK/AUS sizing.

    • +1

Best to go instore and get the staff to measure you up and then buy online. Theres lots of different size variations, so you get the ideal fit.

  • +2

have the comfort craftsmen got them for 270$ at the Perth RM williams outlet store
    worth!

    • +1

Meanwhile the store in Sydney are selling them at $550. lol

  • Does anyone know if Brisbane have an outlet for rm?

    • +3

Don't know, but there's one at Harbour Town on the Gold Coast

      • Ahh nice, never been to harbour town, is it like dfo where retailers have their clearance stuff?

        • +1

Yeah and factory seconds as well. Some shops are a genuine outlet, others seem less-so

        • @Ra:

Awesome, now I have somewhere to go on boxing day lol

    • There's one at indooroopilly shopping centre, its a shop that's big enough but not really outlet

    • There's also one at Queen St mall.

      • +1

Got served by a complete w@nker there. I'll buy my RMs elsewhere.

        • Haha tell us the story

  • Lucky You

I'll keep a look out at their watertown store

    • +1

I read that as watermelon store, now I'm hungry

  • +4

Comfort Craftsman from Nungar Trading. Almost the same price delivered for any colour. Good customer service too.
just get properly sized at a local RM Williams Store.

    http://www.nungar.com.au/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/48_4…

  • +1

Can anyone comment on the difference between these and the craftsman?

    • +2

Chisel Toe on the Craftsman and Round Toe on the Turnout.

Craftsman is the original RM William Boot that we know and love.

  • Although these have a rubber sole I have noticed it's different to the rubber sole of the dynamic flex crafsman.

Can anyone comment on the differences between the two?

    • Only the innersole/footbed. Dynamic flex uses removable innersole with pronouns arch support. It is comfortable, but afaik it's less breathable.

  • I'm interested in one of these quality boots. I usually pay $200 or so on a pair that seem to only last 2 years max.

What's the difference between comfort turn out, and the other models. Obviously there is suede vs regular leather, and colours, but they all look the same to me?

I'd like to wear it as a regular city office worker shoe in a suit.

    • +2

Main difference is the toe as mentioned above by smuggler

  • Little off track here, but has anyone tried the "signature" $1000 version?

  • Not trying to be a troll here, but is there a real major difference between these and a pair of boots that are say half the price? I think supporting hand made items and long lasting products is genuinely a really great way of preserving future resources but I'm curious if people think that the cost of these boots is really justified or if it's more so the brand name?

    • +2

Have a pair of r.m's that i've had for 2.5 yrs. Worn at least 3 times a week. Still look brand new and no reason for me to believe they wont last 10 plus yrs. Even the elastic sides have kept their shape. Definitely have saved money not buying multiple pairs of shoes over time. Only thing is that i now want a brown pair.

      • Do they end up smelling?

    • +1

The boot is made from a single piece of leather which allows it to mould to your foot for much greater comfort. Most other chelsea boots have a seem below the elastic. These can also be resoled which means you can keep the uppers for 20+ years potentially. Boots half the price will need to be thrown out once the sole wears down.

It's an expensive upfront cost, but for most it's worth it.

Sizing is paramount though, without laces you really need to get fitted properly.

    • +2

My comfort craftsmen are just about to hit ten years, still look pretty good for daily wearing. Office work, odd bit of farm visits, occasional horse riding. Keep em polished and they’ll last a long time.
I have had the heel redone a few times (my feet are shockers) and the sole once.

RMs are the shoe of choice for anyone rural, university professors or senior public servants.

      • My brother had them resoled before he even wore his, to prolong the life of them more. Apparently this was the done thing then; was many years ago. I know he had them for at least 10 years and used to look after and polish them regularly.

I used to wear those knee high boots when I was younger too. The heels always copped it because of driving long distances. Some women used to change into mocassins etc for driving.

    • +1

Thanks for the detailed replies :) Sounds like they’re a good deal.

    • R.M. Williams was well known for quality, craftsmanship and money well spent. The name is well trusted, but people knew they were buying the best.

  • +7

Just going to put this out there.

If you have previously owned and loved RM Williams boots, be warned about spending the same cash post Louis Vuitton buyout.

    Some changes:

    *Pricing has increased ~40%

*Internal construction has had a significant portion changed to canvas rather than all leather

*RM will no longer supply soles to local cobblers, you HAVE TO send to the factory (and the price also doubled)

    • Did you copied this from a forum post? I've also read this while researching this boot.

      • +1

        Sure did. But it’s true.

Source: I own over ten pairs

  • +2

I’ve been on to RMs for a couple of years now. I used to buy florsheims and Aquila’s that lasted a year max…

They weren’t much cheaper then buying Rms from the outlet stores or on sale but definetly are no where near the quality or comfort.

I bought two for $500 on sale from the outlet and they are still going strong.

I’ve been waiting to get a pair of their chinchillas $700rrp or $500 from Nungar and happened to see a pair in the outlet store in my size! It had just been put out that morning and I snapped it up for $350!

    These are a good price!

  • +2

Can I buy these and wear them to work without being laughed at? I work in executive sales…

    • +9

Depends if they are laughing at you or the shoes

    • +1

      Serious answer: you can.
When I go on business trips I take only these boots. Can wear them with a suit, can wear them with jeans.

      • Can you wear them with boardies?

        • +2

As long as you’re at the country races and wearing a jacket & tie, otherwise you’ll look like a tool.

    • +1

      My whole office wears these.

  • +1

Trying to buy a size 10 tan. Shows availabke but cant progress past step 2. Does this mean its sold out?

  • Unfortunately now Hipster chic that will never see a Cow turd…

  • "these boots were built to stay strong on the long rides across the Australian outback"
That's the funniest thing I've read this year…

  • +1

I had a pair of Dr. Martens made in the uk lasted 15 years of almost daily use w/ no resole… then I bought another pair made in China which lasted 1.5 years.

  • Class boots. Super comfy. Not heavy. Makes you feel solid on your feet.

  • Are these also available in store? (I assume yes?)

Also, is David Jones a good place to get fitted for these or is it better to go to an RM? Is there one of these in the Melbourne CBD?

  • Anyone know of chelsea side-zip boots of this quality (and price range)? Not really easy to find one.
Heard of William Baxter but seems like the quality isn't on par with RM Williams.

    Any help appreciated!
