If you’re at all handy, grab a small hand sprayer from Bunnings and a bottle of concentrate and you’ll end saving yourself some dough. The process is easy as, you mix in what you need and away you go. Realistically safety aspects are the same for either anyway so it’s not like you’re going to be risking your health by mixing your own. It’s also easier because you can cover a house much more effectively.

      Link to suggested bottle?

      • Coopex is a good one.

        • Seems pulled from Bunnings website?

I use this; https://www.bunnings.com.au/hovex-1l-ultra-lo-odour-termite-… it seems expensive but for example 50 ML makes 10 L, it’s not just for termites you can use it for other pests too.

I use this; https://www.bunnings.com.au/aqua-systems-5l-garden-pressure-… to dispense.

Rubber gloves, long sleeve shirt, hat (wide brim good), glasses, mask and when you’re done chuck your clothes in the wash and rinse the gloves, mask and glasses with water.

I put the poison in and then add water but I think it’s probably much better the other way, but I think the water mixes it a bit better that way but it froths up so you have to keep an eye on the water level. It might stain some absorbent surfaces so keep an eye on that too.

We had issues with cockies but for the last little while they’re out the back twitching so it’s doing something.

        Hope that helps.

I get the concentrate mainly to attempt ward off spiders as I'm a (****) with them. Deltamethrin and cypermethrin are the two most commonly used insecticides against spiders. So if you are also battling the 8 legged beast grab a concentrate with the highest concentration of either of those chemicals for the cheapest per litre. I'm currently using one which is 10g/L Deltamethrin and cost about $45 for a litre. When you consider the "professional" grades at the supermarket contain 0.05g/L Deltamethrin…. Well you can work out. Btw Cypermethrin is used at a much higher concentration

    • How effective and how long will it last ? Did you mixit or use 10g/L straight?

      • The label recommends 150ml in 5-10L of water for the first treatment then 75ml thereafter. To make sure I used probably about 50ml in 2L.
From my experience it's seems to work, only problem is I sprayed only the outside of my house and seems like there has been an influx of spiders inside my house now lol. Moral of the story is work from inside out to drive the spiders out not in.

    • A Pest Controller once told me that Spiders don’t groom themselves, residual chemicals won’t help. You need to spray them directly, so leave the web in place until you spray.

Might need a fact check though.

      • Yeah i read somewhere they pretty much can walk over the barrier and pretty much useless unless you spray directly onto them. I think my spraying has worked a little but it's definitely not close to making a 100% barrier from the creepy fu*$ers.

I have a bottle of this bifenthrin concentrate:
    https://www.bunnings.com.au/hovex-1l-ultra-lo-odour-termite-…

Use an old Mortein sprayer or get a pump action sprayer. Works out way cheaper. At the highest recommended concentration (100ml/10L) you get 100L for $60. Or you spend that $60 on 8L of Mortein. No-brainer. Just keep it secure and take appropriate precautions when mixing.

This seems cheaper per litre for the same concentration

      What am I missing?

Looks like a different insecticide (bifrenthin vs permetherin). Each one is effective at different concentrations and also length of time.

    • Actually funny you mention bifenthrin as I just aquired a small bottle of 98% strength i.e. 980g/L! Was thinking of going all out and just adding enough water to dissolve the powder and so it is a sprayable consistency. Should be potent.

      • Where did you find that?

        • At my work :)

        • @LGW:

          🙈

Is it fully dissolved at that concentration?

        • @Steptoe: no is pretty much pure powdered form, dunno what the minimum amount of water it takes to dissolve it it'll be pretty potent wherever it is

        • @LGW:
If you read the tech for it, it has very low solubility in water. It mixes as an emulsion in the liquid form it's sold as.

Deltamethrin concentrate from famer supplies or ebay work out to be cheaper in the long run. If spray doesn't work and you have German cockroaches you use bait gel in combo with the spray. Spray low and bait high. So don't spray where you bait.
