My rule: Harvey Norman, Domayne, Joyce Maybe are safe to browse at, but not to buy from.

    • Are you talking about price here? If the price ia good (like this deal) then buying from these big shops is definately better than buying from some obscur online shop.

this comes at the right time for me as I have ben looking for a cheap alarm installed.

      • I am talking about the general experience and after sales service.

Good to browse at, never to buy from.

  • Anyone know anything about these alarms?

    • Ness alarms have been around for quite a while and have a good reputation.

Considering this includes installation I think this is a great price. Who cares if it's from Harvey Norman. It's not a dumbarse salesperson installing it for you.

If you are going to be a store name snob then you will do yourself out of a bargain at some point.

      • How about this www.stallionsecurity.com.au
@AntMan76 or someone do you know any information about their quality and price?

I can't really comment on that company but they do sell/recommend good brands. Unfortunately they don't seem to provide pricing.

          I bought a Bosch system from www.ctccommunications.com.au

Prices and service were very good and they often do great prices on detectors etc.

haha so somebody cuts your phone line or disables your power and your screwed? Thanks, but I'll think I'll stay hidden in the dark until i build my own

    • Top-notch tamper protection and up to 48 hours battery life in case of contingencies
GSM option available at extra cost

If its a decent system and you can reprogram it at the end of the 12 months to call your own number I think its not a bad deal.

    • if they cut power it has 48 hour power backup

and the siren will still go off!

  • is this for Brisbane only?

also it doesn't mention anything about an external siren?

    • LOL! No external siren! Click through to the Harvey Norman page, it's extra for an external siren or strobe. All this has is an internal 110db screamer, most likely built into the codepad. This is an extremely basic alarm system, bordering on completely useless. Your neighbours won't even know if someone is roaming around inside your house.

The only good thing about the deal is it includes back to base monitoring. However the conditions and efficiency of that is unknown.

      • personally internal alarm and B2B is all I would want. The external alarm will do nothing but annoy the neughbours… they will certainly not coming running to help at 3am in the morning when the alarm goes off…

        • No at but at least they might look at out their window to see what's going on. Take down any rego numbers of vehicles out the front, take down description of someone doing the runner etc. Maybe even run the idiots over depending how close you are with your neighbours.

One of the biggest deterrents is noise caused by a proper alarm. If they cut the phone line before they enter then NO ONE will ever know they're in there, unless someone hears the internal screamer from outside which will be disabled in 3 seconds by smashing it.

        • I think you should be able to add an external siren once you go and use the voucher. There is also a GSM option for etra cost.

These alarm systems are not designed to stop the A-Team from breaking into your place. I live in street with a lot of houses and I don't really have anything valuable outside the your average home conent. I am expecting this to just make whoever wants to break in to look for a different house without an alarm.

          K.

      • you can buy the siren/strobe from ebay for $59.95, called up HN Security and they quoted $235 for it.

        http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250725…

  • If you look around the net this alarm is sold in various forms, typically for around $700 sometimes with 2 PIR and a siren sometimes with 3 PIR etc. BUT remember in this case you are getting 1 years monitoring included too, so I think deal wise its good.

You can add more PIR yourself, its all wireless. Plenty of places sell them for a little over $100, the bargain hunters out there will not doubt find them even cheaper.

    • Edit: read again your post.

I hope the installer gives me full access to the station. I read on some online forums that they do not leave you with a fully functionning system as the master code or whatever is kept with them.

      • I would be kicking up a fuss until they do…

    • What are we supposed to look at here? there is no installation included in this.

  • The deal is still on as a [Side Deal] on the site if anyone's interested.
