  • YES THANK YOU SO MUCH, I didn't know someone else on ozbargain also made music. What genre and daw do u use?

    • 90's contemporary classical. Garage Band

    • No worries mate :) For sure.. I've kept this passion rolling for a long time now. I mainly produce Deep/Progressive House & Trance but also venture into other realms such as Pop & Electro. I originally used cubase but now I use FL since it's later builds as 'FL Studio'. I know a lot of people bag that DAW but it has improved a lot over the years.

      • Hey yo i use fl studio 12 as well, how did you learn about fruit compressor, eq, and all the mixing plugins. Did you take an audio engineering course?

        • Hey Roger, I took cert 3,4 & Advanced diploma courses in audio engineering & multimedia hoping to find full time work in that field. The industry was tough and unfortunately I got comfortable in my flexible job where I was working while studying and eventually went full-time.
It isn't all bad though, the skills I learned are fueling my passion to this day so I'm able to produce and put them to practice.

I must say this; it doesn't matter how much theory you study, they're only a foundation. Over time you will need to master the art of trusting your own ear and how to manipulate the sound. :)

        • @sonify: What's ur job now? Also what did they actually teach in that course? Could you recommend any online sites?

        • +1

@SimpleRoger: gearslutz can be overwhelming for a newbie, but quite rewarding.

Give Reaper a go as a DRAW and look for Kenny and Reaper on YouTube for some utterly amazing tutorials.

        • @Risto: I meant to write DAW. Reaper has so many free plugins it's astounding given its download size.

        • @SimpleRoger:

Ehhh just a job earning enough cash for mortgage and balancing hobby.
This college in north sydney waaay back. Not sure if the same course is still available… if you have money to spend theres some overpriced uni courses (I forget the names) billyblue?? :P

If you find gearslutz a bit intimidating come join in the discussion over at /wearethemusicmakers on reddit. :)

        • @sonify: yo what midi keyboard should I get. Is the novation 49 good? Should I go up to 61?

        • @SimpleRoger: Arturia is also pretty good and comes with some decent soft synths.

        • @SimpleRoger:
I have a 61 key because when I play live I enjoy using more octaves for expression in my music. If you need to narrow it down for production purposes in conjunction with the piano roll in your DAW not as many keys are necessary. :)\
Novation are a reputable brand, I have an Roland MIDI controller/keyboard.

  • Fellow muso's!

Much appreciated for the pack, tbh the phaser is an ultimate gem.

    • Most definitely. I love using them on synth pads or a temporary automation during a break/bridge. Enjoy :)

  • Is it just me….im having problems clicking on ADD A SERIAL in ACCESS.

  • Yeah I do make music as well. Have you guys got any suggestions for plugins?
