Seabird Expedition Kayak (Low Volume and High Volume) $800, down from $2000 @ Anaconda (In-Store)

200

Hi Fellow ozbargainers.

I was doing my research for a solid second hand sit in kayak that had a good reputation. Didn't have much luck scoring one on Gumtree for under 1k.

In the end I found out that Anaconda are getting rid of their Seabird models for less then half price. Here is a link to the manufacturer

http://seabirddesigns.com/kayaks/expedition-hv RRP listed as 1250 Euro.

Many videos of people using these in Europe for multi day trips in rough conditions.

This unit is a good buy for the price of 800. Price is in store only and stock is limited. Cannington had six left and the other store about the same. Not sure about other stores but worth getting in there and getting a visual. Easy to spot, they are standing up in the corner and over 5 metres high.

Good luck.

    Good deal BTW.

    • Thank you. I have corrected it.

These look great but will get enough use out of it is the question
The fact that their probably selling for this second hand makes it easier to justify

Sorry i may not have explained. They are brand new and cheap so i bought it instead.

        You explained, I understand
        What I'm saying is ,
if I buy 1 and don't end up using it as much as I thought ,
I can probably sell it and get most of my money back.
Then buy a jetski and do the same thing except lose more money

        • Bit of a beach bum, are you?

        • @Scab: no just tek screwed to the roof so i look cool bro
It's why I'm so popular with the ladies

    • Well I have two kayaks and I can count the number of times I've used them this year with two hands.

      • So less than a dozen times.

  • How to carry these 5m kayakas with a car? On the roof? They are longer than most cars.

120 for Sea to Summit soft roof racks. They worked perfectly. Take 2 minutes to install or remove.

      • Happy as.

@aec: Leave it on the roof of the car! But in all seriousness, yeah I understand. 5 metres in length is no joke.

    • You can overhang it at the back, 1.2m I think in NSW, putting a rag on it to make it visible to vehicles and pedestrians is probably law.
I advise a rope from nose to front of car and another at back. If there's nowhere to tie to at the front you can make a loop of strap attached to a bolt under the bonnet. If you don't want it to loose it's shape when tied down you'll have to look into that as well.

    • Overhang is legal, technicalities are by state.
A lot of the time big ocean skis are breaking the law with too much overhang but ate left alone as long as there is a good flag.

I've got a few sea kayaks stashed away, and this may sound silly, but when you have a chance, take it out into chest deep water and gradually tip it over. Its really helpful to know what its secondary stability is like, the point at which you will be falling in. Helps to know what you and your boat can and can't do :)

    • Not silly at all! Thank you
