Can confirm that it is also valid for the grandfathered M Pack:
This pack comes with 2.5GB of data (1.5GB + 1GB Bonus Data for recharges until 28th February 2018)

  • recharges until 28th February 2018

So only 3 months? Then go hunting for a new plan?

Wouldn't the Kogan plan be much better? 1.5GB/month indefinitely, $17/m or $152 for a year.
Kogan is Voda, which is not bad these days.

Does ALDI get full Telstra network coverage now, or is it still crippled to only areas where Telstra has competition?

Vodafone coverage is not sufficient for my needs.
They're still pretty useless if you need regional coverage, at least in the areas we frequent.

ALDI use Tesltra Wholesale ("crippled"), so roughly equivalent to Optus coverage.
I'll be upgrading to the Super Pack ($249 365 days, 42Gb, Unlimited calls/SMS/MMS) unless they extend the offer. Works out to a bit over $20/month.

      • still pretty useless if you need regional coverage.

They used to be useless in the city.
I figure if you need regional coverage, you get a real Telstra account.
The $30 2.5GB plan seems OK. Why the "refugees" ? Not able to use it for Netflix etc now?

Optus (and Telstra Wholesale) coverage is pretty comparable through cropping areas. It's only Grazier areas that really need Telstra these days.
(again, this is my experience anyway)

Vodafone coverage where we travel requires that you get to the top of a hill and hope for the best, where Telstra and Optus have full signal in the valleys.

Yeah, the refugees are the Netflix on Telstra Credit crew.

        • @scubacoles: I was surprised to find on a recent holiday that there were a number of stretches that had no coverage on the main route from Brisbane to Hervey Bay, which I would have thought Telstra Wholesale would have covered completely.

          @bloomer:
Do you have a Band 28 handset?

Telstra Wholesale is a competitor to Optus. When it was first launched, there was a lot of noise about how the coverage was better, but in my experience it's much of a muchness.

        • @scubacoles: Ah, now that might explain it! Thanks.

      • Where is the Super Pack for 249?

      • It used to be the case that the Telstra Wholesale network and Optus network were roughly the same. After Optus' regional investment of $1 billion+ this statement is false.

        • Yeah coverage maps look better for Optus these days.

  • Since when was the M pack grandfathered?

Vaya $16 month plan which has no expiry: https://www.vaya.net.au/

    • +1

Yeah, but it's Vaya… they're in the same book as Dodo as far as I'm concerned.
Dodgy as, prone to changing the rules as they please and more than happy to bill you for months after disconnection and then blame you for it!
Been there, done that, never again.

Maybe ALDI are the same, but I'm guessing not.

Also to consider are Jeenee, Spintel and Southern Phone, can't comment on their reliability.

Fortunately for me my experience has been different. I have been a Vaya customer for more than 3 years without any problems. But then, I haven't tried to port out to another provider!
