Thanks! Corrected.
Very nice price.
You'll burn through 8GB and spend half your time switching songs in and out of your library. Don't forget that you'll be sharing space with apps and such.
Go at least a 32GBI don't really agree, I've got 32GB on my iPhone and I'm probably only using a quarter of it. I have loads of apps and enough music to keep me entertained. 8GB is OK if you want apps and music, you just won't be able to load up hundreds and thousands of albums. However, if you watch videos you'll need more space.
lol i guess each to their own in terms of space
just got my 32gb last week and i'm already down to my last gb of free space. Here's how you decide which one to get:
Copy all your music, videos and photos into a new folder. Take that total
Look at the iTunes store at apps and make an estimate of everything you'll want.
Add those two numbers together.
Then comes to the conclusion that you could quadruple your storage from 8gb to 32gb for only $100 more or be stubborn or that you could have just got the nano because all you listen to is your Leonard Cohen album over and over again.shenlong, next september, i will be laughing because the $100 i saved not buying a 32gb (which is still far inadequate) would pay a good portion of the 5G 64GB touch.
seriously stop trying to convince ppl the 8gb is useless. since when do you "have to" put every gb of your media onto a portable device?
maybe some ppl dont primarily use it to play games or listen to music? maybe they only use the many productivity apps which wont take more than a couple of gb at most?
you're also making the false assumption that 4x storage = 4x the ipod. well look at it another way: the hardware is exactly the same, same sensors same cameras same screen. in a way, the 8gb model is a super bargain allowing you to use all the features for $100 less. this $100 will go towards getting the next gen touch, which you may not have justified if you had already spent $100 the previous year on the older touch.
i say all this because i have the experience of buying top-of-line ipods in the past. i had the 16gb 1st gen touch, 8gb 2nd gen nano. paying some $100 extra for the storage at the time has translated to 0$ value today, making storage the #1 item in depreciation.
until i see storage size that is definitely enough for me, i will continue to buy the cheapest new gen ipod touch for its feature set. and knowing that when i give it away next year, i could spend the money i saved buying a new ipod instead of moaning about not being able to upgrade due to having spent a lot more last year.
Kimmik,
I don't think shelong is trying to convince people that 8GB is worthless, if people seriously only need 8GB, get a 8GB. But if people have any doubt, an additional 100 bucks is well worth while for the additional 24GB.
Btw, how often do you update your ipods anyways. If you plan to do it every year, it will be easier to forecast on your requirements, and 8GB will probably suffice. But if you plan to use it for 2-3 years, the 100 dollar now may be more desirable than being forced to upgrade early.
fair enough. though quoting him "Go at least a 32GB" suggests he thinks 8gb is unsuitable for anyone.
i'll upgrade when the next major change occurs. or when enough storage is sold for a good price. might be next year, or year after. however definitely not this year.
what he said in this thread is equivalent of me hypothetically going to a 32GB ipod post and saying "why would you seriously pay $100 more for a 32gb blah blah just get 8GB enough for most blah".
I've been getting into Podcasts and they chew up space.
Also, the 8gb isn't 8gb. After iOS and firmware it's 7gb. I'm always switching between Skype and MSN and browsing or something else. It would suck if the 8gb couldn't send push notifications for all those things if it can't multitask, would mean not getting messages if you're in another app.
If you don't do any of those things, and don't care about freezing or sync issues, I guess 8gb is enough. Do your own research though.
I honestly don't care what other people get, I don't get a commission. Just saying that I'm glad I got a 32gb. Want an 8gb? get an 8gb! And instead of getting a $40 Belkin case, put it in an old sock.Freezing issues? You are confusing ram with storage. There is not freezing or multitasking difference to even 64 gb models.
And again, you are throwing arrogant biased passive aggressive comments like save another 40 and put it in an old sock. You might think it's a subtle jab or maybe you.don't realize it, but it's obvious you still hold a view that 8gb is a lot less useful in general.
Agreed,
GT Racing is 1,018MB installed
Iron Man 2 is 377.5MB installed
Madden 11 is 340.7MB installed
Splinter Cell is 789.4MB installed
Lonely Planet Guides are about 50MB each8GB will be gone in no time flat, an iPod touch is no longer a "mp3 player", if you can afford it, get 32GB at the very least.
is there anyway to get those apps cheap?
Patience, most games go on sale every now and then, I got most of the games at 1.19, GT racing was at 2.49. Lonely Planet was free, courtesy of Ozbargain.
JB Hifi has a good deal on 8GB iTouch. $269 inc. FM transmitter and wall charger. Perhaps you could even get them to match $239 Kmart offer, as the FM transmitter and wall charger are "bonuses".- http://www.jbhifi.com.au/portable/mp3-players/apple/ipod-8gb…
I tried but did not work. Anyone?
Just to let everyone know, i bought one of these when target had em for 247 (8gb), the actual usable memory is circa 6.4gig
The link says: Starts 25 Nov , so OW may not price match until then.
