I'm still confused on how this thing works.

    • +1

Its an IR blaster. ie. mimics the signals sent from your different remotes.

    • +5

it basically replicates a remote. you input your air conditioner, and you can effectively turn it on through your app, even when away from the house (i.e. while driving home). Or you can set it up so that the remote will activate a certain product at a certain time. e.g. TV turns on at 7am while youre getting ready in the morning, but will turn itself off at 8am when you leave the house

      • Ok so how many I need? One for each device or one this xiaomi can handle 10? So I tell this xiaomi to learn my 3x Aircon, tv, sound bar remotes and I then I can control any of them via my Mobile whole outside (via app)?

        • should be one per room. I doubt you have all 3 air con units in the same room :p

        • +7

          @chumlol:
I dunno, a DragonInDespair might make the room fairly hot. I hope they've unplugged the smoke detectors.

      • Sorry probably stupid question incoming….
So if the appliance I want to get it to access/switch on doesn’t have a remote then it can’t work?
Like my evap cooling just has a panel on wall not a remote control for it??

        • +9

It sends an infrared signal, it doesn't physically push the buttons for you. So if it doesn't have an IR receiver it can't be controlled.

        • depends i guess. Your cooler may be IR capable, just never came with a remote?
Alternatively, a smart wifi socket might do the trick too.

  • +1

    edit: replied above…

  • Assuming this would need to be in direct sight of the device if it's IR (not in a different room)?

    • +9

yes, works as any remote would. Could be fun if you know your neighbours tv make/model through. set up in your window, and change his tv while your at work. Can even watch the action on your Xiaofeng IP camera lol

      • Thanks - could be useful to turn the air conditioning on in summer when on the way home! I know timers can do that but this would save the hassle of setting them up or avoid having it on if I get home late.

I like your idea of pranking your neighbour but would the signal work through windows/walls? I know my TV remote won't work around the corner of the room and only if I point to the TV directly.

Does it work with Google assistant?

        • ive read it doesnt work directly with google home assistant, you need some intermediary software.

        • windows yes, walls no. think of it like a torch light.

        • @kiwijunglist: That's a shame. Would be ideal if it did.

        • +2

          @cheepo:
Just need to get imaginative with some mirrors.

  • So the question and answer section of the product page says no iOS support, but then in some places it says it works?

  • +1

Can you set up macro function with this? Ie. Press 1 button to activate a sequence of 60 button presses?

Fyi i have a tv that i need to change display setting each time as it resets on boot. And that requires a lot of button presses.

    • +1

Jeez, what make and model TV is that.. so I know to stay away. :)

      • +1

Aldi TV. It was cheap ok? don't judge me!

        • What's the model? It might be faulty, my Bauhn has no problem storing settings.

        • +1

          @lxndev:

actually nvm…I just never played around with it enough. All I needed was HDMI mode to PC.

Broadlink blackbean is a cheaper alternative to this. I have 4 blackbeans and they work well with Domoticz via my raspberry pi

    • What's better between the two?

      • +3

I have no issues with the blackbean. Can buy two for the price of one Xiaomi when on sale

      • +3

I've got 6 of the broadlinks. I'm using Home assistant (an alternative to Domoticz) and can report it works well. I also find the Broadlink app easy to use and configure if you don't want to setup a full home automation system.

    • +1

Also Blackbean can be controlled with Amazon Echo.. not sure about this Xiaomi device…

    • Have you tried the Broadlink Blackbean with Google Assistant?

    • +1

Yep. Another vote for Blackbean. Mine works great with Home Assistant, and just set it up successfully to work with Alexa.

  • +1

Anyone had any experience in how this compares with the Broadlink?

    • +1

These are great, a lot more responsive than my Broadcom Black Bean but more WiFi disconnects and a bit slower than the rebadged Broadcom Pro I got from Aldi a few years back.

  • I'm assuming this can be automated with Tasker and Google home?

    • -1

What are you basing this assumption on?

      • -1

I've seen broadlink automated with Google home via Tasker. So I reckon this could be done as well?

        • Let me know how you go

  • Does this one interact with Google home directly rather than having to use workarounds like tasker, raspberry pi / home automation etc.?

    • Google barely exists in Mainland China, there is no urge to make any of these compatible - especially with the range of options people implement and keeping costs down.

It's no Harmony, but to be honest, when new people hear me ask Google to ask harmony to keep it down a bit because its too loud, people give me looks.

    • No.

  • Is there any way to control the ir blaster with a 2.4ghz remote? I'm looking for a way to phase out my TV remote which sucks

  • I never received my last order from Gearbest, contacted them a month later and was told it's out of stock. They underlined the bold part, are they trying to say it's my fault for ordering an item which later went out of stock? Got this about a week ago, since nothing happened I've now opened a PayPal dispute. Gearbest usually get it right, but their customer service could be improved, I contacted them the day after I ordered and they never told me it there was any problem.

    Dear xxxx,

Thank you for contacting Gearbest about your order.

We are currently in the business of processing your order now, however please note the Product you have ordered is out of Stock .

We can cancel the order for you.
And you can look for something similar.

    Please let us know.

    Best Regards

A relative of mine ordered a phone which Gearbest addressed wrong (They put 22 instead of 22A, I've seen a copy of the Invoice & PP Transaction with correct address), it was delivered to his local Aus Post then sent back, Aus Post said to collect they need to be contacted by the seller to correct the address, Gearbest didn't understand his request and then refused to refund it even after it was sent back to them, as they'd "already reshipped with the changed address". 4 months after ordering it showed up at his door water damaged, refund was finally honoured. (smh)

    • +2

I guess it makes sense now when you get an email from them saying.. Congratulations your order has been shipped.. It's like.. Hey.. You won! Congrats on getting something that you purchased from us.

      • Hahahaha if only you could get a refund on lotto when you don't win.

  • Been waiting for a deal on one of these… thanks ozizoy!

  • Is this like a cheaper version of google home and Apple TV?

  • Does this require smart tv to connect? My non smart tv’s remote not working. Will this work?

    • I'm guessing you have to teach it the commands using the original remote, although it may have a database. If your tv is still for sale in shops buy a cheap learning ir remote and steal the ir codes by asking nicely to borrow their remote for 10 minutes. Also if you can't do that then generally logitech harmoney remotes have a big database of tv ir codes.

  • How does this compare to the Logitech Harmony Hub/Elite? I know there is a massive price difference but is there any specific missing features between two? Thank you!

    • this is more geared towards home automation with mi home integration.

    • I had the broadlink and upgraded to a harmony hub so that the"state" worked with both phones and the physical remote.

It took me ages to setup the broadlink with home assistant, I showed my wife it turning on playschool then she picked up our old harmony remote (525) and tried to mute it. It didn't work as it didn't know the tv was on. Upgraded to harmony hub now so the state is in the hub.
If you use original remotes this won't be as big a deal.

    • I've been looking at the Harmony Hub too. Unless I'm mistaken, I think Logitech's solution can use a physical remote too if you wanted a single dedicated remote to replace all your others. And Harmony is the only one that currently works directly with Google Assistant. Xiaomi's control only works as a hub so a phone is required for input. Can anyone confirm that Xiaomi's remote works with third party services like IFTTT? So could voice control work without the phone app?

  • with broadlink blackbean I can control things even if my phone is not connected to the same wifi network. Is this working like that too?

    • This is just like broadlink blackbean and working nicely with xiaomi smart home products (motion sensor, door sensor, humidity sensor)

  • Does anyone know if this would work with a garage door? We have a gdo-9 dynamo system with remote.

  • I might be doing this wrong, but I'm getting the message: "The Code you entered has expired."

  • Can that open gate?

  • Can this (and / or the Blackbean) be programed to work with TWO (or more) devices?

IE, In my Family Room, can I have ONE unit to (IR) switch my air-conditioner on and ALSO my TV on, OR do I need a TV unit AND also an air-conditioner unit ?

    Thanks.

    • A single unit can do all of the codes that you program it with.

  • Please issue new code if possible?

  • Mine arrived today. Can anyone figure out how to connect to this on the iPhone?

    • May I ask when did you place order and where are you about? Because I am still waiting for it :(

      • Did you ever receive yours ozizoy? I'm still waiting :(

        • +1

I received it around after30 days.

    • Got mine today. I added it to my Mi Home app through Mainland China.
Can't seem to get it working with my air conditioner though, went through the 74 possible remotes for my brand and none of them worked.
Then I went to search the model number, found the closest one but it still won't work.
      Hmm..

      • how in hell do you get this device to connect to your wifi.
It just flashes orange LED, and is in AP mode.

        The app doesnt find it.

Instructions are written by people who cannot write, in any language, just utter useless docs.

        WTF do I configure it?????

        • So did you connect to the device’s wifi first, then open the app and add the device, then select your home wifi and put in the wifi password?

I ended up getting it to work with my LG TV with one of the preset remote configs that I think someone had saved on the remote list through the app.
Haven’t tried again for the air con just yet, will try again when I get some time tomorrow.

        • @unco:

I see its wifi, I connect to it and get 192.168.13.2
          .

I run the app, and do add device, and it just scans, timeout. Pull down, spinner, timeout. + Sign, add device, timeout.

I have 4 APS, all diff names, for all 2.5/5ghz, and a/b/g/n.

          LED flashes orange 1,2,3,pause…

        • @unco: android 7 too

        • Same I have to cameras already connected and I can't for the life of me find the ir remote

        • @DrunkTechSupport: ok so using another phone worked without any issue lol

        • Install the app on another phone, worked for me on my old Samsung but not my Huawei p9

  • why did i buy it? spent over an hour to find out how to use it with TV. works on aircon but it was time consuming to figure out how.

    • would be more helpfull, if you told us what you learned, and what problems you had.

  • Need more code.

  • How the F can I get this to work? I've been trying to get this to play nice with my TV and aircon, neither seems to work and I can't understand jack as everything's in Chinese!
