Where did you get $19.20 from? It's £17.93 which is A$29.04 plus shipping…It's still a reasonably good deal though.

    • yeh lol, where did u get $19.20 from?????

    • I was thinking the same thing???

  • thanks fellas… changed :)

  • :( no where near as good as $19 :P

    • Yeah I know….. I think I must have looked at DVD version and almost had a heart attack trying to post here. Still, $30 delivered pretty good!

      • I didn't see a free shipping offer. It's $29 + shipping (I imagine shipping would be at least £3-4)

EDIT: Sorry, went to check-out. Forgot about VAT. It is indeed £18.94 shipped.

bit cheaper here….but depends on vat, postage etc

    • +1

I calculated roughly $31.xx before currency conversion fees at Zavvi.

      • you went where I couldn't be bothered :)

  • +5

…. Been this price for a very long time

  • Thanks, I've been looking for this.

  • Borrowed the DVD set from the library when it was first released. Very well-made natural history documentary. I wonder if the blu-ray version will add more to the already stunning display. Still, $30 for 5-discs is a bargain for DVDs, let alone blu-ray discs.

  • Yep, ABC Shop selling this blueray version for $100 (plus delivery)…. $30 damn good price imo.

    http://shop.abc.net.au/browse/product.asp?productid=748336

That's two awesome deals in a week… Harry Potter and now this, thanks Amazon :).

  • Link to the DVD Version please (I haven't gotten around to find that bluray player bargain yet lol)

      • Ah crap! Just bought the DVD version without thinking about the region coding *&^@. Oh man I wonder if my xbox360 will play this thing…anyone know??

        • If you bought from amazon, you normally have 10mins or so where u can cancel your order

        • OMG i didnt realize either hope the xbox can play it???

        • Sorry. :(

Should have warned you guys about the region coding when I posted the link.

Been this price for a while. Infact I remember it being around 15 pounds a while ago when he dollar was lower. Also remember LIFE also narrated by Attenborough is the same price.
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Life-Blu-ray-David-Attenborough/dp/B…

  • +2

Can't complain about this. Beautiful deal. Got 'Life' and 'Planet Earth' both $30ish each. And JB's trying to spruik their combined value pack for $145… thanks mate abd Amazon

  • Would someone who doesn't really care about docos still enjoy this?
.. and are any of the other ones worth getting also?

    • +3

Absolutely. I rarely enjoy any docos but this is truly amazing, especially the Blu-ray version. It may be even better suited to part-time doco watchers because it will awe you that much. Don't know about the "Life" series but they're also narrated by Attenborough who fits perfectly, I'd imagine they're worth checking out too.

    • Any of them, imo :P
      http://www.amazon.co.uk/s?ie=UTF8&search-alias=dvd&ref=dp_dv…

Sometimes I put one of his docos on so I can listen to Sir David Attenborough's soothing voice while I work :D

    • You will find yourself saying "wow" about 14 times per episode…. do it.. ;)

    • The shots of the Great White Shark vs Seal are awesome in their super slow-mo HD sequences.

  • -5

Yeah, already bought this last time it was posted. Great deal, but won't +'ve it since it's essentially the same deal as last time.

  • It has been that price for a couple of MONTHS! Buy the blueray, you won't regret it. (If not I already have the DVD, I would buy that ages ago!)

  • a must buy for anyone with a blueray player

  • which one is newer and better? Life or PlanetEarth?

  • +2

    Buy both.
    Thats what I'm doing.

  • I own Planet Earth on HD-DVD and Blue Planet on Dvd. Do yourself a favour and take advantage of that offer and get both of them.

Even after rewatching them several times, they still make my jaw drop in sheer amazement.

    • HD-DVD?..looks like you jumped the boat a little too early!

  • First time buying from Amazon, is it normal to not have the option of inputing the my state in the address?

  • Got both but paid a bit more for the special edition Planet Earth.

    Thanks for posting this deal.

    • What's special about the special edition? Extra footage?

      • +1

Apparentely better video quality (higher bit-rate, etc) and an option to watch it with music instead of the narration.

        Opted for normal edition.

      • It has an extra 10 minutes per episode that shows how they set all the cameras , mics ect to get the shots. Very interesting! i.e one shows how the team got down into the cave and lived underground in the pitch black for ages.

        • These were included in the DVD version by default. Looks like you have to get the special edition blu-ray to get them.

        • +1

ewik… I didn't know too much about what's special apart from more footage and better video quality. As the price difference wasn't that much and this one is for keeps I thought I would just spend that little extra for it.

Thanks Ecstatic, swimmingtoad and zzyss for the info.

Can't wait for them to arrive!!!

  • WHat's better Life or Planet Earth?

Any links to the special edition of Plant Earth?

  • Is is better to use Amazon currency converter or not ?

    • I'd rather get screwed by Amazon than my bank on conversion fees, but best is to use a 28 degrees card (nee Wizard).

  • Every time the tree drops in the overhead view of the Jungle one, I feel like I'm gonna fall into my TV! :)

As the Simpsons Comic Book Guy would say, "Best…documentaries…ever!" ;)

  • +1

Life is actually cheaper at Barnes and Noble right now for ~AUD$26 delivered and you get the 1080p version (the UK version is 1080i). This US version is region-free and is also narrated by David Attenborough. (Don't make the mistake of buying the Oprah version!)

    Price is USD$19.99
less 15% coupon A9N8U4H (expires today)
    + shipping to AU
    = USD$25.47 (~AUD$26)

There are various other blu-ray deals going on there too - Batman Anthology (USD$12.99), Austin Powers Collection (USD$10.79) - but I haven't checked which ones are region free.

    • Do you have a link?

I can only find the Oprah version:

      http://video.barnesandnoble.com/DVD/Life/David-Attenborough/…

      EDIT:

It appears as if the David Attenborough version isn't for sale?

      http://video.barnesandnoble.com/DVD/Life/David-Attenborough/…

      • Yep, it has just sold out and is no longer listed as available.
Many of the other titles are selling out fast too :(

Some blu-ray titles in the sale (courtesy of slickdeals - in USD$ with discount):

Gone with the Wind Scarlett Edition $11
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Film Collection $17
        That's Entertainment Trilogy $6
        Ocean's Trilogy $15
        Bones: Season 4 $15
Lie to Me: Season 1 $15
How I Met Your Mother: Season 4 $15
        Burn Notice: Season 2 $15
        The Unit: Season 4 $15
        Dollhouse: Season 1 $15
My Name is Earl: Season 4 $15

        • Ahh, have to add shipping ontop of the prices :).

    • +1

I bought the Life UK version a couple of months back - it actually is 1080p.

      • Agreed, the majority it 1080p, some parts arent though

  • Thanks for the useful info but too late already ordered both off Amazon.

  • Thank you for the post.
The only correction: It's not A$30.68 but AUD 31.97 incl. postage (I just ordered one). Please correct the title.

    • +2

$31.97 is expensive conversion mate, did you use Amazon's conversion? Conversion price will vary depending on what you use to purchase. For instance, CBA charged my credit card $31.07. The advertised price above is the converted price using an online currency converter… what people pay to convert is up to them.

      • Any credit card provider will charge for currency conversion on top of the market conversion rate. For instance, Westpac Visa total surcharge is 3%. Amzon's charges 4% for conversion. $30.68 doesn't account for conversion fees that you pay.

        • +1

wizard cc blah blah less than 1% charge.

  • Good deal, however I ended up getting the special edition instead of the one you linked to.

I spent ~AUD$160 (delivered) and got:

Planet Earth - Special Edition [Blu-ray]
    Yellowstone [Blu-ray]
    Life [Blu-ray] [2009]
The BBC Natural History Collection [Blu-ray]
Wonders Of The Solar System [Blu-ray] [2010]

  • +4

Thanks, bought one, I did not use the Amazon currency converter as I have a Wizard Clear card without international transaction fees.

  • Got the dvd version of planet Earth a while ago. But very disappointed with the quality. Hopefully the blue-rays offer much better quality, Just not as sharp as you would expect even from dvd's, can watch other dvd's with sharper details…

    • i have both the dvd and bluray versions of planet earth, and downloaded hd Life.

i recommend you get Life in bluray instead. The footages are better and sharper, more suited for bluray than planet earth.

life series is essentially a newer moderner planet using better cameras and an older david attenborough. and we all know his buttery voice ages like a good red wine.

  • Thanks to the OP, just bought LIFE on bluray. Came out to be $31.97, immensely cheaper then JBHIFI.

  • Great price but I just bought but on www.zavvi.com as it's slightly cheaper. Ordered along with Vanquish for PS3.

    • ordered Vanquish, Life, and Planet Earth from Zavvi. I've never bought stuff from this site so I hope they are ok to deal with.

      • How much cheaper is it?

  • Bought Planet Earth & Life Bluray for $57 shipped from Amazon UK :)

It came out to 39 GBP ~ AUD$62.82 for me at Zavvi.

    Thanks to the OP!

  • Thanks! Already have Planet Earth HD from ABC (before abc24), but ordered Life at same price.

Also the "The Blue Planet" DVD box set is only about A$14 extra delivered! (not available in HD)
Better than paying $90 at the ABC shop.

  • Does Amazon charge you in GBP or AUD?

  • Thanks for all the comments folks….. glad you all like it. You've actually got me buying 'Life' too for the same price :).

As I understand it- 'Planet Earth' is the stage, and 'Life' is the characters…. terrific addition to my collection, thanks.

    • So did they charge you in AUD?

  • you have an option if you want to get it charged in GBP or AUD.

    • Where do you get that option? I went through the ordering process and couldn't find it….

  • on amazon.co.uk site Once you completed the order and the final step is to confirm payment..
there it will ask you if you get it charged in GBP or AUD ( this is using CC )

  • payment option on amazon.co.uk..
    check thisout https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/tfx/t-and-c-popup.html

    • Got it. Thanks samirjunkie :o)

  • Here is a really great review for BBC Life:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ikqj3flngww

FYI, if you use Amazon's 'built in' converter, it works out a little more expensive (at least for me it does).

    This is from CBA website:

    International Transaction5 :

    • Transactions converted by MasterCard® or Visa (5): 2.95%
    • Transactions converted by American Express® (5) : 1.95%
    • Transactions overseas but in Australian dollars(6): 2.00%

In addition, American Express transactions are also subject to a 1.50% American Express currency conversion factor which is included in the converted transaction amount.

So… if you convert with Amazon, and then still use your credite card 'overseas', you'll be stung again.
Reading one of the above posts, it cost me $31.07 after conversion fees (3% with credit card), but another bloke $31.97 using Amazon's converter (4%). But then if you are with CBA it's going to be another 2% on top.

Do your home work to see what your bank charges, but for me its cheaper to use CBA and leave currency as pounds.

    • I am with CBA as well and when i paid in AU $, i.e. using their converter, the bank didn't charge me anything at all..

  • +2

For blu-rays…it was a bit confusing for me at first which was cheaper. So for those interested, I put in a few things and took it to the checkout to get totals (incl. postage to Victoria).

    Amazon UK
    Planet Earth (Special Edition): £21.27
    Life: £15.26
    Postage: £5.27
    Total: £41.80

    Zavvi
    Planet Earth (Regular): £16.95
    Life: £16.95
    Postage: £4.98
    Total: £38.88

Edit: Paid using Wizard/28° Mastercard, will update to let everyone know what exchange rate was used. XE.com @ 7:33pm 22/11 has 1 AUD -> 0.61936 GBP.

Edit2: lol…just got a call 10min later from Wizard/28° fraud detection unit. jeez they're quick. Apparently only got charged AUD$68.21, which is 1 AUD -> 0.61281 GBP.

  • Just got quite a few thing from Amazon inc the SE Planet Earth (thought it was worth the extra 6 pounds for a better recoding and a few more feature) as well as life. Thanks to the poster for mentioning it…

  • Coolios guys!

Just ordered! What's the usual dispatch time?

    • -1

      3 weeks.

      • I mean the time it takes out to be shipped.

        • +1

One day to dispatch, and a week for the mail. Typically.

    • 11 hours from the time I placed the order until I got the shipment notification.
Delivery time is estimated by Amazon at 10-14 days. Sometimes it only takes a week.

  • I'm buying from Zavvi too.
If you spend >100 pounds, you can get 10 pounds off
with the coupon code: BIGSPENDER (expiry ???)

    http://www.ecogamer.com.au/content/107-coupondiscount-offer/…

  • Uhh ohh. The PlanetEarth/Life boxset is about to go on sale. Let's see how much it is.

  • links ? :p

but like reading through all the posts .. ive got confused and now cant figure out who the cheapest is .. lol

im wanting bluray and not dvd .. theres no point buying dvds anymore .. not when ive seen the quality of bluray :P

  • +1

    im confused here..

    www.amazon.co.uk/Life-Blu-ray-David-Attenborough/dp/B002KSA4… @ £17.93
    www.amazon.co.uk/Planet-Earth-Complete-BBC-Blu-ray/dp/B000SK… @ 17.99
    = Total £35.92

    BUT

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002KSA4GA/ — The Life + Planet Earth boxset = £41.97

How does that work ? I would have thought the boxset would be cheaper ..

    • Yeah,

It turns out the combined boxset wasn't cheaper at all. JUst buy the two indiviudal ones :).

    • the price seems to have changed.. went to the site today

      it's GBP22.99 for Life
      and GBP15.97 for Planet-Earth now

      still cheaper to buy separately

  • +1

Lol rrp 90$, only suckers ever pay retail

  • The "Wonders of the Solar system" looks like an interesting one also, $21 delivered and its a 2010 release.

  • -8

I thought this site is for Oz(tralia) bargains.

This is great if you live in the UK only, because delivery is only to the UK, or did i miss something.?

    • +1

You missed something. You can get this delivered to Australia.

    • Yes, you missed that Amazon.co.uk ship to Australia and that the price, including delivery, is a fraction of the local equivalent.

    • And UK is the same region B as here. And post is fast. Missed pretty much everything.
