  • Could anyone quickly describe how to install this? How DIY is it really? Need to open the dashboard?

You need to know where your car's OBD-II port is - often under the glovebox in the front passenger footwell - that's where this plugs in to get your car's data.

Like GPS, instead of cable goes to cig lighter, it connect straight to OBD2 port. Check with your car manual. Usually it located under the steering wheel.

1st check ur car whether it has obd2 port

most will be under somewhere nearby below the steering

      • Cheers guys, question now is: Buy this one or use a smartphone app? What do you guys think?

        • @JJJ: haha took me a few seconds to get it …

        • Would go for this as it reads your speed through the car rather than relying on the gps satellites which is usually delayed.

          @JJJ: or even a 2006 BMW 650i….

        • @GregFiona: I don't get why the negs, 2006 650i has got HUD

  • Any feedback and is it available at other stores besides Chatswood?

    • ALDI Kogarah has them for the same price.

  • Seems like a good price for a HUD.

    • great price for a local one.. or u could spend $30ish for a slightly more fancy one from china.

Do they have it in an L size too?

    • Only the Ozbargain shirts come in a L size.

  • I had one when it was $30, it struggled in full sun but otherwise very easy to setup (plug and play) and could be calibrated to match your speedo.

  • How long has Aldi Chatswood been closed? Didn't even realise :D

Just a heads up: Several (controlled, verified) experiments have been run and found that these actually detract from your awareness of what is behind the screen as you have a limited view and also because you are not looking for unexpected stimuli as much.

Absolutely great price though if you decide to buy one.

It was closed for about two weeks for renovations.

      • Oh ok, its not that I'm just unobservant I haven't been in about two weeks :)

Thanks for the heads up ;)

UPDATE: Picked one up. About 10 units left. Some box seems opened, try inspect content before purchase!

  • These units will give you an accurate speed, rather than the inflated figure on your speedo. I think that is done by the car manufacturer to make sure you are unlikely to get a speeding ticket.

I don’t have this one, but you can adjust the percentage for the speed on mine. That is to make it read fast or slow.

At 100KPH actual (according to the HUD) my car’s speedo reads 105KPH. I have cross-checked this with GPS and speed markings on the road. I have been through many speed traps at 100KPH on the HUD and have not been booked.

  • For anyone still reading this

There are two left at ALDI Surry Hills (NSW) for $9.99ea (unmolested in the glass cabinet).

And unrelated copy of Minecraft for Xbox One for $19.95 been there about 6 months.
