The Samsung Galaxy S is back in stock with Vodafone and available on a better 12 month contact than before i.e. $700 dollars worth of calls (was $650 previously), unlimited, untimed calls vodafone to vodafone and Three, unlimited texts, 2GB internet.

Choose the 12 month option on $69 cap to maximise your savings and call benefits and reduce handset repayments to $5 pm. 3 months free access and 10% discount works out to $618.90 over 12 months.

$62.10 * 9 months = 566.1 ($69 less 10% discount is 62.10 * 9 months (3 free months access)
$5 * 12 = $60
Total = $618.90
i.e $51.80 outgoings per month for 12 months.

This phone goes like a rocket after installing Ryans One Click lag fix. I got the Desire HD as well but still prefer the Samsung Galaxy S to it.

Next best phone available is Nokia N8, but who wants a Nokia in this day and age?

Inclusions:

  • $700 included value a month to use on standard national and international voice and video calls, Unlimited standard TXT, PXT® and video PXT® sent to personal mobile numbers, Standard National video calls (including calls made while National Roaming), voicemail retrieval, national roaming, calls to National (1223) and International (1225) Directory Assistance, 13, 15 and 1800 numbers, Vodafone live!5 Surfing (not downloads), Re-routed calls to numbers that divert to International services, Customer Care Calls2.
  • Unlimited Vodafone to Vodafone & 3 standard national voice calls within Australia all day every day
  • 2GB of data for mobile internet

Ths deal has been published before, but Samsung Galaxy S went out of stock (Ozbargained?) really quickly, is back in stock now, and higher call value ($700 vs old $650) distinguish it from previous deal.

And yes, in theory, you need to be a NRMA roadside assistance member, but my experience in getting three contracts from them, is that Vodafone dont really care!

  • What's Vodafone's coverage like? (i'm with Optus/Melbourne?)

    • I'm watching youtube on the way to work and back every day now. About same or better than Optus in my experience.

How does that affect your driving?

@laser - Thats What She Said!

    • +4

Well, the deal expired on 31 October officially, and has now been re-instated. Lots of people I know wanted to get the Galaxy S before, but couldn't for 2 reasons, phone out of stock, and deal expired. They are all pulling the trigger now as we speak.

Froyo update should be out any time now.

      • +7

Good job, nhand42. We should all provide criticisms like you did instead of submitting any deals. That'd make for an excellent OzBargain. Well done.

      • yeah Froyo update should be out anytime is what they said 2 months ago. Here we are nearing the end of November.

    • This is a good bargain compare to optus (mine ..sigh)
I'm still locked in 24 months contract with 100 mb/ month

      Well done voda!

    • Probably going to garner negative votes, but I actually think nhand42 has a point about the Vodafone dollars. I hate how the telcos make it so difficult to compare products. (Although it's a problem with Vodafone more than the poster.) So, with nhand42's numbers, if you make on average 5 minute phone calls it is roughly 550 minutes.

  • To the OP: Voodoo trumps OCLF. Give it a try if you get the chance. on JPO and Voodoo 5, smoothest Android handset yet.

    • +2

Thanks will give voodoo a go.

    • +1 to voodoo

    • Yeah I was gonna say. I had oclf installed and it didn't do much for me. After a month of using it I uninstalled it and my phone was much faster. Dunno if I'll bother with voodoo until froyo finally comes out.

    • I've been trying to find a firmware update for the International GT-i9000 for a while now.
What exactly does Voodoo/OCLF/JPO stand for?

Its all about sharing and caring, man.

if you just want the phone and not a heavy user then there are cheaper plans out there.
my in laws got his for $39 cap from vodafone.

this deal in itself is ok.

    • +5

$39 cap over how many months, and how much for handset repayments, how much data, if you got a better deal let us know, so I can tell my mates.

  • I am in the final month contact with three. can i sign this contract with vodafone, got discount and keep the old number?

    • +1

Yes, you'll just need to payout the rest of your contract. If you go in to a store, I'm sure they'll discount it for you. I exited my contract 6 months early and only paid out $110.

      • thanks, just ordered one

  • Pretty good deal. I was thinking going on the new infinite plans with Voda, but $700 worth of calls to non 3 and voda is good.

  • +4

Not sure if posting external links is allowed in OzBargain but I am a customer of Vodafone and I find that it is my duty to disclose information wrt the poor network performance of Vodafone in the last few months. This is an official response from Vodafone and admitting that they also have issues with their network.

    http://whrl.pl/RcxAIO
    http://www.smh.com.au/technology/technology-news/vodafone-ad…

If you want to sign up, I suggest waiting for all of this to clear. The ETA for this fix is 2 weeks but I am very pessimistic about this. Reports were as eary in September wrt this issue and they only made this public now.

I have been with Vodafone for a while now and it is only in the recent months when their network has gone down the toilet. It is frustrating and their customer support is non existant (more than 45min wait time on their customer service help lines).

I hope this was useful in your decision on making the move to Vodafone. It would suck to join something that did not work. I did not NEG this deal as it indeed is a good deal!

  • How do you get the 12 month plan from the autoclub link?

    (edit) nvm found it.

thanks been wanting this phone for a while now on a decent plan

    • Go down to the plans and change from 24 month to12 month by clicking on the tab that says 12 month

  • +1

just did math on the 49 cap seems that the 69 cap is sweet spot

    49: 44.1*9 months 396.9 + 216 handset repayments = 612.9

    69: 62.1*9 558.9 months + 60 handset repayments = 618.9

  • Can you use the full $700 vodafone credit on international calls? Thanks!

    • no i don't think so, Virgin are the only ones that allow that

    • +3

Yes, you can, I use nearly all my allowance calling overseas. My relos overseas are wondering why I've suddenly become so sociable. They ask me, why dont you use VOIP, Skype, google talk etc. I tell them I couldn't be "bothered". LOL.

  • Is 3 month free credit still eligible? I just went to Vodafone website and it says that 3 month free acess was only applicable if join before November.

From Vodafone website under this deal:

$69 Vodafone Cap gives you $700 each month2 to spend on Cap Inclusions, plus:
Join before October 31, 2010 and you get 3 months free credit+
10% discount? on recurring monthly charge
Unlimited Vodafone to Vodafone standard national voice calls within Australia all day, every day
2GB3 of data for mobile internet or Unlimited4 BlackBerry® Email & Internet Browsing + 2GB of Data for video streaming3

  • Wtf? I voted negative on this (it's the standard price; not a bargain or a deal) and my vote has been revoked by the moderator.

What's the point of voting? I call shenanigans.

    • -1

Shhh. That negative word is heavily censored here and voting negative is frowned upon at OzB.

Anyone can click the positive button but you have to jump through hoops to register a negative. We don't want to hurt anybody's precious feelings.

      • Not true, you are allowed to vote negative if your reasons are genuine, in all fairness to the moderators.

    • -1

Why is this a bargain? Because the phone costs $669 outright, with not a cent of phone calls, text or data. Vodafone is a shambles at the moment, has been for the past few months, only a company in shambles would put a top of the line handset such as this, on $5 handset repayments on a 12 month contract. Its only a matter of days before Voda realise their mistake and either pull the handset, or put an Out of Stock sticker like the last time around. If you don't realise this, may I ask what you are doing on Ozbargain anyway? I like others here believe Ozbargain rocks, because its members scout such abnormalities and let us exploit them. I am grateful for the positive votes, but I didn't post this deal to get votes, I genuinely want to give something back for all the fun I've had on this site, getting all those steals. So if you must post negative, go ahead, if it floats your boat.

      • Thanks laser for your posy. I want to go and get it tomorrow if deal is intact. I asked a question above without a response. Can you please confirm that "3 month free" is still active as per my post above?

    • nhand42,

I don't think your negative vote was revoked by a mod. Mods normally leave a comment when revoking a vote.

Since your comment attracted 9 negative votes, it was likely revoked by the new self-automation vote revocation which has been implemented recently.

      • is that the technical term for 'you got shafted by the people' ?

This phone is unlockable free of charge from http://www.vodafone.com.au/unlock I have successfully unlocked all the contract handsets I got from Voda from that webpage. You put in your IMEI number which will be in a sticker on the side of the box, and you will get an unlock code. Then put in a non Voda sim in the phone and it will ask you for the unlock code. Enter the code carefully, you only get 3 attempts, and the phone will be be able to be used with any carrier. You can even go all the way, if you are game, and unbrand the phone by loading any of a number of ROMs that the chefs have cooked for you at xda developers.

    • +1

For those people who no longer have your phone boxes, I am pretty sure *#06# gives you the IMEI number too.

      • Correct. You can also get your IMEI from under the battery compartment.

    • Are you sure about this? The T&Cs from the link above state

1: Approved customers only. Minimum monthly spend is $69. Early exit fee: $69 x months left on contract. Min. cost and Early Exit Fee excludes any applicable handset payments. Unlocking fee applies.

As far as I can tell from the website, the fee is ($25 online OR $50 by calling them) + $50 in the first 6 months.

  • Question: when i went to buy, it doesn't say 3 months free? is it suppose to say three months free? it only says total charge per month is $67.10. Cheers.

    • Still says 3 months free access in the Free Bonus section of your shopping cart, just checked.

    • You may have to expand the categories in the cart, ie Mobile / Plan / Free Bonus / Insurance / Extra Mobile Internet Data / Save on International Calls

inside the one that says Free Bonus, there's a drop down box where the only option is "3 months Free Access+"

  • +1

looking round the website, vodafone has iphone 4 8gb……hahaz be one of a kind..
    prolly 3GS since 3gs photo
    http://store.vodafone.com.au/handset-apple-iphone-4-8gb.aspx

    • lol good find.

  • I cant find where to prot my number over, im trying to get this deal if i can, im assuming the NRMA is already added on for the discount?

Plus where can i port my number?

    • There is an option to port your number on one of the pages of the web forms, once you have checked out your cart, but wouldn't recommend you choose the option as it only slows the order down and Voda don't port in any case based on the info you supply in the form. Instead call 1555 after you get your new phone and sim and request the port. When you call 1555, tell Laura I love her…. :p

      • +1

A Laura in every port eh? :)

        • +1

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tell_Laura_I_Love_Her and Laura is Vodafones frustrating voice recognition answering system for 1555

        • Ah ok, silly old fashioned me. I thought she was a cute real person.

Wonder what would happen if you said I love you as a response. Probably sorry I didn't get that, could you please repeat. :(

      • so basically, get a new number/sim then transfer your old number onto it?

      • sorry laser i have called them at least four times regarding this. the issue is that i am existing customer and they cannot fix this. as i ordered a new service and they cannot treat this as an upgrade. now i am still on the phone to see if there is anything that they can do. not happy now. =(

  • damn, i can't process my order. called CS 2 mins ago and the lady on the phone told me it's out of stock!

    • Don't call CS whatever you do. They're clueless anyway, and it will only result in the deal being taken off the online store.

      • thanks laser, i didn't port my number and the order went through.
but i still need to call SC, to tell Laura that you love herm also port my old number. =)

        • Do that after you get the phone and have put the already activated sim that you'll get with the phone in your phone, you can call 1555 for free from this plan. 8am seems the best time to call.

  • +1

When you port number retrospectively? what time window do you have? i guess best to do asap.

Also there is no iphone option? they out of stock? or not related to autoclub deal?

    • It can take anywhere from 24 hours to 5 days

      • I think they meant how long can you wait from when you order your handset to when you port your number.

  • How do I keep my current mobile phone number?
You can actually bring your number with you when you make the switch to Vodafone, so your contact details stay the same. It’s easy. Once you’ve received your order, you’ll also receive your new Vodafone SIM card. Simply call 1300 101 606 (8am to 8pm weekdays, 9am to 5:30pm weekends) to activate this SIM card, and we’ll transfer your number to Vodafone. We won’t charge you for transferring your number, but there may be conditions and charges from your existing mobile phone company. And it’s just that simple!

To transfer your mobile number, the name on your new Vodafone account and your current account with the other mobile provider must be the same. To transfer a number to Vodafone if it is in another person’s name, you’ll need to arrange for a change of ownership of your current mobile account into your name to authorise the transfer.

  • Really want this deal, but already locked in to a 24 months contract. Doh! @#@!@#

  • Can I ask the O.P. - why do you prefer the Galaxy over the Desire HD? I'm about to get one or the other. Which has the best call quality? Or both pretty much the same?

    • Galaxy is cheesecake, Desire HD is beefcake. Call quality is much the same. Galaxy S has Swype keyboard installed from factory, also you can download some cool games for free from Samsung such as Asphalt 5, car racing game. HTC mail app cannot do activesync with hotmail. No interesting free apps from HTC. First HTC Desire HD I got kept rebooting, similar problem to HTC Desire. Replacement has no issues, but not being able to Activesync with Hotmail is a big no no.Surprisingly both these flagship phones come with no case. Samsung Galaxy S headphones are the best bundled phones I have ever tried. I tried these against a Ultimate Ears 4 series earplugs, the Galaxy's won.

    • Desire HD has crap battery life. A lot of people complain about not being able to use the phone for half a day.

If you can wait, wait for Galaxy 2 which has Tegra, super AMOLED and dual core CPU coming out early next yr…:)

What I think abot wondows mybile

First of all it's Windows Phone 7 not Windows Mobile (different things).

Have you ever owned a WP7 (not Windows Mobile) phone? Most people in that thread think you are talking nonsense with the critical points you make.

Also, your numerous trolling posts are apparent with some being deleted by moderators. Not a good look if you wanted to be taken seriously.

WP7 has been out for exactly ONE MONTH. Give developers a chance to write some apps to fill any gaps where something may not be available and also to make updates/fixes to the OS. There were similar critics of the iPhone when it first came out.

Life is too short to be serious. Chill out, man. I love winding up fanboys.
Actually, its just got even more hilarious, apparently you cant even run live messenger on windows phone http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1581742

        • +1

I haven't got time for your juvenile stuff—life's too short. One quick view of your previous link was enough.

    • In theory you can cancel, yes, but in practice, you have to get past Lara, she'll send you into a talspin.

  • I ordered yesterday but haven't received any confirmation email. Did anyone else get it?

    • Same here I didn't get confirmation email. Instead I got an email from Vladimir LeFluer with his direct email. It stated there was an issue with their online system requiring me to give them 100 points of ID. I had already provided my licence whihc I thought was 100 points but was happy to fax and email them my 100 points check.

I also informed them that I recently had a credit check approved for their $15 wirless modem month by month plan. I wonder if this is a stall tactic due to the huge response or if they will have enough stock.

      • I got a confirmation on the spot with an invoice and my order number. That was on same day as deal was posted. Now waitng for the phone to arrive. Good deal for 12 month contract. Also managed to cut my contract with 3 three month short. They were willing to do it for me and my wife who also had 2 month to run on her 3 contract.

  • I just ordered this one and got confirmation on the spot. was tossing up between the galaxy s and trophy 7, but this one wins.

The people have spoken, once again! Windows Phone is a dead duck.

Has anybody tried calling them? I was on hold from 5:30pm-7:30pm today, first spoke to Lara and then after holding, spoke to a real person - who put me on hold again because I had the wrong department. The next guy that answered told me the same thing and I held yet again. The THIRD PERSON said the same thing again (around 7pm) and at 7:30 the hold music just dropped out and I left the line open for another 10 mins (but still couldn't hear anything) before hanging up.

    • Wow, you must be very patient or have a speakerphone. :o

      • More persistent than patient, I think. My on hold music replaced my radio :) Also, this Uniden R055 cordless system is amazing!

    • Finally got through this morning with only 25mins on hold. Ordered on the 21st and they expect it to arrive this Friday, or next Monday at the latest.

      • I ordered on the 21st too. Just called today (waited about 20 mins) and was told there was a substantial amount of Samsung Galaxy's to be sent out so it might be delayed about 2-5 business days =((

  • Ordered mine on the 22nd, hope it comes early next week. Thanks for the super awesome deal.

  • Is this deal accept only Credit Cards? I couldn't find the options as for last time I went with the HTC Desire HD. Weird :)

  • +1

I am from WA and after handing in ID for credit check 7 times through email and fax I got confirmation email. You should amend the post as the $5 monthly handset repayments are also 10% off so $4.50. Insurance isn't 10% off though.

Try ringing this number for assistance(02)9015 0484 and give them your WS-A or whatever number. Yeah they will try and put you through to other people. Also although they say their emails aren't monitored still try because I have had a reply before.

I have been told my phone should arrive middle of next week.

I too hope that W7 phones fail.

    • Are you a NRMA member? or What number do you need to make sure oyu get this deal?

I want to sign up just dont want to be rejected for it.

      • They don't ask for your memberships when you book online

  • Did anyone order ? What is the waiting period like ?
