Do yourself a favour and do not buy this for coffee.

it's not about the quality of the product. I own lots of Breville products for coffee and love them. It's the design.
You can't grind coffee with a blade. Has to be with a burr.
Blade just randomly chops the coffee into small bits of different sizes.
Burrs crush the coffee into particles of (generally) uniform size.
The more even the particle sizes are, the more evenly your coffee will extract, and the better it will taste.

What do you think of it as a spice/herb chopper?

Of course you can. Some people prefer a blade, others a burr.

        • @jv: silly

        • actually works okay from aero press surprisingly.

        • This guy grinds.

        • @jv:
I would double check on the definition of grinding coffee.

        • @try2bhelpful: It works pretty well as spice grinder. I recently bought this as a gift for friend and they're pretty happy with it. I have a sunbeam one that I use as spice grinder and can't fault it.

        • @KaraZorEl: thanks.

    • Can you please suggest any alternatives for grinding Coffee Beans?

Smart Grinder Pro is a bargain for the price it often comes up on Ozbargain.
Otherwise, maybe look at a low end Baratza like an Encore or a Forte for filter coffee,
or for espresso, a Baratza Precisio, or Sette.

    • Can you please suggest any alternatives for grinding Coffee Beans?

        • Yeah, right. But, I am after grinding machines. I will give it a go anyway but I am looking for something good and easy way to grinding coffee beans for my french presses.

Something like the "Breville Smart Grinder Pro" should basically be your starting point. I wouldn't buy the product in the OP for coffee.

        • LOL

  • Buy this for spice. You will regret it if you plan to use it for coffee.

    • I prefer to use a burr for my spices. Especially cardamon.

ok fair enough then, don't buy it for anything XD

I have one of these and use it for grinding coffee as i need it coarse to make cold brew coffee for my iced coffee - works well for this.

I also use it to grind fennel seeds for my pork belly roast. Again does a great job here

  • I have one too for spices, the good thing about this one is you can lift out the cup to wash separately rather than the whole unit.

  • So, if you want 76gr of something you need (75gr x60 sec+15 min cooling+ 1gr x60sec=) 17 minutes, right? :)

    • What you talking bout Willis?

      • Capacity 75g or 3/4 cup , operation: hand press down, running time: 60 secs, followed with 15 mins cooling, safety: interloc

  • I don't let mine cool down. I'm not running a union site.

Haven't had any issues grinding 3 loads of coffee beans with no break in between

  • What's it like to chop up "herb"? :p

  • Is this a Grey Import?

  • Grey as its color. :)
