$109 at Duty Free

That's how duty free works yes.
That would end up costing me significantly more that $109.
Wow that's a great price!!!! Thanks!
Wow, excellent price. I am getting poor from all these Scotch deals lately.
Benchmark bargain price for these are normally $80 - $85 at Dans.

That deal was from 2015…
It's still fine to drink.
If there is anything left to drink.
Haven't seen it at this price in years at Dans.
guess I can wait lol
stack with AMEX Paypal deal?
How does it compare to Balvenie 12/17, Aberlour 12 and Macallan 18 ?
Those 3 all have 8 letters in their name where as the one in this deal has 9 letters.
So, a little different.
You listed 3 speyside whiskies, and this is an islay whisky. This would be my pick over them any day of the week (unless I didn't feel like a peaty whisky - which is usually never)
Which make sense as I don't like peaty whisky ;)
You'll get there eventually, it's the natural evolution of whisky appreciation. Starts with something like the Auchentoshan three wood (ever so slightly smokey), then grows quickly into Laphroig 10 (medium smoke) and then the peak of value at Lagaluvin 16 (medium to heavy smoke), might even have a Bowmore 15 Darkest (light to medium smoke) in there which is another great bridge islay.
You will also save a tonne of money over those whisky you mentioned.
Also the Macallan does have very light peat in it. Most Scottish whiskies do, so the fact you gravitate to Scottish whiskies mean you must like peat on some level.
To be fair, Aberlour is cheap (regularly around $60) so he/she won't really save if that's what he/she drinks.
I would, perhaps, throw Talisker 10 into the mix there - I think it's more accessible than Laphroaig 10 for those new to the smoke. Other Laphroaigs could be an option for first-timers (Quarter Cask, PX Cask is a bit sweeter). Although, I always take people straight to the Lag 16, whatever their preference - it's just as good a place to start with Islay and Island whisky.
Nicks is often the best place to purchase the others, with 1 litre direct imports. Lag on special, though, is very rare. I suggest Torres just gets a bottle and eases into it.
@Trosticles: Cheers mate!
I was referring to the Macallan 18 and Balvenie 17 which are over $250 700ml.
I will have a squiz at Nicks. Just got Bowmore 18 from Duty free as I got lost and panicked, hoping its good….
Thanks Guys. I have no problem with the peaty whisky, it just I don't like it. I like Macallan 18 and Balvenie 17 but they are a couple of hundred dollars. I guess nothing good come cheap!
@Torres: except for this deal on a great whisky for cheap haha
Yeah - I realised that. Though Balvenie 17 is $152 at DMs with their member offers. In general, decent Highland and Speyside whiskies are cheaper than the decent Islay and Island whiskies. Aberlour 12 I quite like - and it's good value. Though I still think the Glenfarclas 105 is better (from Nicks) - $105 for a litre of cask strength (goes well with a decent splash of water).
For my tastes, the Macallan and Balvenie are a waste of money. I like my whisky a bit more "raw" (or complex) so don't lust for many higher age statements. I've tried some ridiculously priced 18 - 25 yo whiskies, but I don't see the point. I would say less than half of my collection are age statements at all (Aberlour 12, Laga 16, Talisker 10, Bowmore 12, Highland Park 12). The rest are cask strength or travel exclusives like Laphroaig QC, PX Cask and An Cuan Mor (the latter is reputedly 18 y.o. anyway, but still has the obligatory Laphroaig smoke, iodine and medicinal tastes), Glenfarclas 105, Jura Superstition, Dalmore Valour…
Talisker Dark Storm and Dalmore Cigar Malt are on my list…

@Trosticles: have you had Talisker distillers edition? I'm getting a whisky for a friend, need it by this weekend, was thinking either this Laga 16 or the Talisker distillers for $119 at Dan's. He's only just getting into peat but had my bowmore 15 darkest and loved it.
Got a bottle of Laga 16 since you guys highly recommended… also got a bottle of Yamazaki 12 and Hibiki 17 I am broke!!! Thanks guys!
@Torres: yep it's an expensive hobby
Haven't had the distiller's edition yet. From its reviews, I'm not sure it would suit my tastes. I had the Bowmore Darkest some years ago and, again, wasn't quite to my tastes. I prefer my smoke turned up to 11 and I can't see any better value than in the Laga 16, Talisker 10, and most Laphroaigs (particularly the QC, though it's a bit expensive).
If you need it by this weekend, I could not go past the Laga.
If you had a little longer, there are a few good deals at Nicks that seem ideal for someone getting into peat (not that I've tried them). The Bowmore Black Rock (1 litre for $100 at Nicks) looks most accessible, though the Bowmore Dark & Intense ($85 for a litre) looks to be the better dram - and better value - still plenty of sweetness, but "intense peat". The Talisker Dark Storm looks similar, but is $135 for a litre (though I've heard very good things about it).
If you have someone coming in from OS, there are some amazing duty free deals from the airports on Laphroaigs (PX Cask and An Cuan Mor - two excellent whiskies).
@Trosticles: Thanks for the advice mate!
Let us know what you think about the Lagavulin.
Hibiki 17?! I've not had it, but I could never justify its price.
I've been put off by Japanese whisky. The price reflects the limited supply more than the quality, in my (limited) experience. I had the Hakushu 12 and it was one of the worst whiskies I've tasted. My mate bought it, he should have liked it given his preference for Speysides and Highlands, but he agreed. We tried a selection of about 12 whiskies that night and we both preferred all the others, including Dimple 15 (yes - a blend, but a decent one). It was just really bland with an unpleasant finish. Perhaps we had a really bad batch.
Also, Nicks is on ebay now, so you can get 10% off with the PANTONE code. Need to spend over $200 (probably before 10% discount) for free delivery. Here are some good deals:
1 litre of Laphroaig 10 is $81:

1L Bowmore Dark & Intense for $76.50:

1L Aberlour 10 (better than the 12 in most opinions) for $73:

700mL Bowmore 12 for $63:

700mL Amrut Fusion (look it up if you don't know about it) for $99:

700mL Laga 16 for $90, same as Vintage Cellars, but possibly more convenient:

Also, the Laphroaig QC is available for $99, but I'd wait - it's regularly on special for around $90.
