A good decent price but no good reviews ;p

$403.2 with the FAF Discount :)

    • ???

    • Oh yes u r right, so we can use it on items that are on special too???

      • +2

Yep it does! But online the delivery cost is $39 so the F&F Discount only about covers that, but in store should be the full discount to $403.

        • They don’t offer in store pick up?
          Maybe stock is low

        • @yoyomablue: Or they're just shipping from a central warehouse somewhere

    Horrible Quality
I bought this tv 2 hours ago, and have already returned it! ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE picture quality and horrible sound quality. Not even good enough for a spare TV. DO NOT BUY THIS TV

    • +1

Obviously an audiophile or something of the sort. I have had a Baugn 65" tv for about a year or so now and no complaints at all. For the regular joe who just wants a big tv I can't complain with cheap TV's. Sound wasn't the greatest, however a decent sound system can fix that.

    • +4

I purchased a similar TV last year however it was the 48"
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/284415

I would assume it has the same specs however 55"

It is nothing special and not worth the money IMO.
The colours are washed out and the backlit brightness is dull.

The TV is OK but you can't compare the quality of other popular models; eg Sony, LG etc.
Don't expect the quality of this TV to be what you see @ HN & GG popular TV's
In my view, I would save more cash and get a real UHD TV.

Edit: To be fair, I do have a higher end LG model and it is like chalk and cheese to compare. The more I work with the LG, the more I want to update and replace the JVC.

      Cheers

  • I have a jvc tv.

    Earlier model 50”
Picture quality is pretty good. Sound is ok

    • +4

They're all rebadged with JVC, so can't compare between models of these generic TVs.

  • +1

Competing with today's Aldi TV 📺.
    Bauhn 55" Ultra 4K $449

  • Any Woolworths Gift Card offers on at the moment
EDIT: 5% discount on gift cards through Cash Rewards

  • Anybody know if this is 100hz? I know the Polaroid ones that Big w are, which makes them surprisingly nicer (smoother) to watch.

    • Televisions have refresh rates of 120 or 60 Hz. Given the price of this TV it's probably 60.

  • -2

I would not recommend get such a cheap TV because you have to watch it everyday for a few years.

    • I have a jvc and Kogan. Both ate very decent pictures. Better then done big bra and named ones I have and friends have

    • +1

Relegate it to the bathroom if you get sick of it and watch 4k Netflix in the bath.

      • I thought you were talking about the bathroom to watch the footy while you take a deuce.

  • Are Big W still reasonable with their return policy? Was thinking if it turns out to be a POS just take it back.

    • +1

The ACCC is reasonable though. One of many perks of living in Australia.

      • Even the ACCC will go by what is reasonable to expect for the price. I doubt they will support you if your complaint is just that it isn't as nice as a much more expensive TV.

        • He said reasonable though? It being not up to your standards that's not reasonable lol. Something reasonable is if it's broken or something is faulty with it.

        • The ACCC has nothing to do with it. Read the fine print of the ACG.

      • No no no…
You need to look further re australias great consumer protection guarantee…
        The system works like this…
You complain to your retailer that your tv with 20hrs use has failed.
        The retailer laughs at you..
You then lodge a complaint with DOFT (if nsw), the retailer laughs at DOFT because they know they cannot do anything.
You then take the matter to a consumer tribunal and pay the fee and hope it all turns out in your favour. There is NO guarantee.

How do I know this… it happened to me with a Panasonic TV. I did not bother taking it to the tribunal.. eventually you get pissed off with the whole fiasco.

I did the correct thing and told Kogan (a TV I bought from them failed within a few hours) that unless they refunded me I would be making a submission at the local small claims court and logging a dispute with the ACCC.

They refunded me the money after having the TV picked back up

        • -1

I had the backlight in my 55 inch regular HD tv from target fail. 18 months after purchase i took it back, without the remote and got a refund on the spot. Went to bigw, paid an extra $25 and bought a 55in 4k with new warranty.

    • Pretty much no questions asked IME.

      • LOL… My original question still stands.. Big W used to be no fuss returns but things do change. Why I asked if anyone knew.

  • +1

    Any other reviews?

  • -2

$38 delivery fees holding me off :/

    • +3

The sticking point for you on a $700 tv reduced to $400 is that it's going to cost money to deliver it to you?

  • How's the review on this TV? I'm looking to buy a spare TV for xbox one to use in my room.

  • It is pristine

  • Has anyone worked out how to get it for $403.20?

Once you add the $39 in shipping it blows out to $442

    • It is $403.20 PLUS SHIPPING. Moderator should change thread title to reflect this.

      • yep, realised that. click and collect would've been nice

    • Cant get for $403 online bcoz of delivery fees, but only in store

  • +3

Just bought this and the Bauhn 55inch UHD TV. Comparable quality, both with horrible speakers. The fit and finish on the JVC is worse apart from the metal leg stands which are nice. I've plug in some cheap logitech PC speakers on the JVC. Beware, there is no headphone jack audio output unlike the Bauhn, so you cannot change the volume with the remote while using external speakers.

    • If possible, can you please tell me the width of the JVC stand from far left leg to far right leg? I'm not 100% sure if it's going to fit on my TV cabinet.

      • +2

        It's 88cm end to end

        • Much appreciated

        • I managed to get one in store after they sold out online. Almost a perfect fit for the width of the TV stand

        • @Underlord:

Good stuff :) enjoy! Can't go wrong for $400

    • If you had to choose between them which is the better TV? Picture quality similar?

  • Ended up getting 4 of them at $383.04 each

    • Can you please let us know what you think when you receive them?
Do you currently have another UHD TV and if so do you know the make/model number?
The reason why I am asking this is that you can make a fair assessment; JVC vs a $1K+ 4K TV
      Cheers

      • +2

The picture is acceptable, but the sound is average - I wouldn’t be using it for home cinema.
It does the job for a budget tv

        • Thanks mate.
          Cheers

    • Broden has risen from the dead!

    • how did you end up getting at $383.04? thanks

What the hell happened to JVC? They used to be a well known high quality Japanese company when i was younger. Now they are pretty much a "buyer beware" company in the consumer space. Sad. Did some Chinese company buy them out or something? I'm guessing these TVs are not really made by what used to be JVC in Japan, I'm guessing they are made elsewhere cheaply and a JVC badge is wacked on them. Anyone know?

    • That's pretty much exactly what happened:
      https://www.consumerreports.org/lcd-led-oled-tvs/tv-brands-a…

They're now essentially the same TVs as Bauhn, Soniq, GVA, Linden, the old DSE TVs etc.

It's just the JVC projectors and head units in the consumer space that are actually still high quality products.

      • +1

Thanks for that, very interesting article. Also about SHARP. They used to make the best LCD panels and TV's in the world - i.e. Aquos from years back. I see their TVs are now made by Hisense. How bloody sad. Hopefully only their consumer TV division. I know SHARP do some serious cutting edge non-consumer pro tech and are still world leaders, no wonder I haven't seen SHARP TVs in the stores for a long time.

As for JVC, I see they are actually the same as the US "Vizio" brand. I have spent a lot of time in the US and know that as an el cheapo TV brand.

You can only try to trick consumers for so long, they catch on pretty quick.

  • I saw one today at Big W, had 1 left and had a quick glance at reviews and decided against it. Might go for the Aldi Brauhn deal as they had like 6 left and if it’s pony I can take it back.

I have this exact TV. Purchased it for $315 a while back in a big W sale. I am no audiophile or TV expert but for what I need this is completely fine. It’s not the greatest quality but it works and it’s decent quality for the price. It is used as a secondary TV and in no way is the picture quality so bad that you can’t watch it. Again, not perfect but good enough.

  • Out of stock online

    • Oh good that helps me decide. I need a new TV but don't feel like spending too much on it at the moment. Then again I don't want to cheap out and buy crap either.

  • Thanks, didnt need it so I bought one.
