You have a problem, you are an HDD horder.

I have an unused 320gb one that I bought for $237 10+ years ago. I still can’t bring myself to chuck it. Wtf?

      • +3

I went through a purge of all existing drives I had about 6 months ago. Oldest one was an 80gb IDE drive. I took the hammer to all of them before throwing out - quite therapeutic!

Had a perfectly good 1tb and brought the 2tb and planned to sell the 1tb. Now want to buy the 4tb and sell the other two. Have barely used th 2tb

  • Have been hunting for 4TB deal .. thanks for sharing OP

  • Nice price OP, still waiting for a good WD deal, they seem to have better reviews..

    • +2

I like my WD reds but in the portables i prefer these seagates.

Western Digital have a USB controller on the drive, the Seagate have a removable USB to Sata interface so they can be used in a PC or notebook and it makes data recovery or re-use easier.

I've been using WD drives exclusively for years, but I gave this particular drive a go last time I needed one. It's been an excellent drive, and I'd happily recommend it to anyone.

Great price! Bear in mind that if you're disassembling this for internal use that it's not a 7mm drive, so may not fit (e.g. if you're installing in a laptop optical caddy)

pair with this: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/342832 to save another 5er

I just installed the add-on, followed the instructions, and it didn't work. The instructions (step 2) were "Click through the promotional card to redeem credit". There was no promotion card to click.

  • Do they ship to Australia? I tried but not successful. Could anyone please advice? I would appreciate. Thanks

    • yes, $139 to adelaide

Stacked with the $5 off. Thanks!

  • Sweet price but I can't think of any use of it for me. I use cloud now.

Good luck only having a backup in the cloud.

It would take me years to backup to the cloud using ADSL2+!

Also, the backup should be regularly tested for data corruption

  • I have 2 of these run 24/7 for uploading to Amazon cloud. They have been running non stop for about 10 months. No problems. About 95MBPs throughput. Highly recommended.

    • +1

How much are you paying for the cloud storage

      • $99 per year unlimited storage.

        • +1

Link / proof? I thought they got rid of it.

        • backblaze at $5USD/month is another option

        • @upsidedownlemon: Well it was there. A notice just popped up in my amazon drive app saying that unlimited is no longer available. I may stay on it until the end of my 1 year period I paid for. This is ridiculous. It is going to take 1 year to upload! Biggest easte of money.

        • @zealmax:it was $59.95 per year and not $99.

        • @zealmax: yeah I had 10TB on mine.

        • @upsidedownlemon: This is really bad. If I had 10Gb connection like in the US I woudnt mind but with 5Mbps upload. I just wasted a lot of time and money. Was expecting more from a company like Amazon.

        • +1

@zealmax: check out /r/DataHoarders for advice

        • @zealmax:

You can still get it on amazon.co.uk - might need to create another account though.

    • What the heck are you uploading?

  • Any local deals anywhere? Need one of these or wd before Thursday.

Amazon can deliver by that date but you might want to order a few to make it worthwhile.

      • Hmm.. Earliest Amazon quote is Friday 24th on expedited shipping

Hmm.. Earliest Amazon quote is Friday 24th on expedited shipping

That's their guaranteed date, I normally get the delivery within 48 hours being in a capital city on the east coast but it's probably cutting it too close for you especially if you're further away from the capitals mentioned.

  • I'm 99% sure I saw these @Costco in Sydney the other day for $130-$140!?
I was looking at a 2TB which they don't sell and noticed this but kept walking as I didn't need that much TB.
If I go there again in a couple of days I will confirm.

    • Nope. NSW Costco's exact one is $200+ AUD. This IS the cheapest deal to date.

  • Just curious, why do they only put one colour on sale?

    • +2

Probably sold less than the others and they need to clear stock.

      YOU DA REAL MVP

I automatically clicked on black and spun my wheels for 5 minutes wondering why the f—k the price wasn't as listed on Ozbargain LOL - your comment solved it

  • thanks for this OP, save me a few bucks going through Officeworks (needed 2)

  • This or one of the other colours have been this price, on and off, for the last 12 months.
Looks like they are sneaking in an extra $10 when not at this price. In the past they were only going up to USD $110, but for the last month they have pushed up to $120.

EDIT: I didn't take freight into account, which makes this the best they have been. Seems odd how it is usually the blue model that is at the cheap price.

    • Maybe blue doesn't sell as well, hence the price?

  • +1

Thanks, just grabbed one. Might even be a little cheaper if you pay with $US rather than $AUS, their currency conversion seems a little steep.

  • Thanks, got two :). For those interested Google says it probably comes with a ST4000LM016 drive.

  • They have a WD Passport for only an extra $2.00.

    Any thoughts lads?

    it still says 121 USD.

no more stock on this price?

    • same here - should this be marked as 'out of stock' - at this price/bargain ?

  • One thing that has puzzled me about this offer (and other offers) - why is there a cashrewards associated with this when it appears the item doesn't fit into the cashrewards categories to redeem ?

    • One thing that has puzzled me about this offer (and other offers) - why is there a cashrewards associated with this when it appears the item doesn't fit into the cashrewards categories to redeem ?

Because it applies to some categories of products for this seller, if you click the cashrewards link at the top it tells you

      6.0% Men's & Kid's Prime Exclusive Apparel
      6.0% Luggage
      6.0% Home
      6.0% Women's Prime Exclusive Apparel

      • I looked everywhere for this info, then found it by going to the Cashrewards website, searching for Amazon, and then clicking on "Special Terms" on the Amazon coupon page. It really should be easier to find, and part of the main text that comes up when you activate it.

At the top of this page where you have a photo of the product and the text is the text Cashback, click on this and you have all the providers offering cashback for this retailer listed and the conditions like I mentioned in my last reply.

      • OK - so it applies to some categories for the seller - but it doesn't actually apply to the specific item listed as an Ozbargain - so are you saying it automatically gets linked and there's no way not to have it be linked.

Even though you can't actually use it for this item..

Yes it is automatic based on the seller, I can't see Scotty putting in the enormous effort to cater for the occasional time where cashback doesn't apply, they already have the conditions listed when you click the cashback link.

Searching for a good 8tb deal!

    • Buy 2 of these perhaps . Maybe an adapter to turn the 2 plugs into 1 . Usb splitter or usb 'hub' I think the adapter is called
