  • Good deal but DAB is a waste of time. I don't get no reception. Also, this unit has a VERY dim display - you just can't see it in daylight.

Yes but DAB can also work really nicely for those who live/work around the CBDs of most major capitals. I've had DAB+ working perfectly in a car for the last 5+ years and it's fantastic but yes best to check coverage before assuming it'll work the same for you.

      • what are the pros of DAB+ ?

more channels ? more clarity ? better bit rate ? more songs to hear ?

        • The extra variety is what attracted me… getting too old for most of the junk on JJJ but really enjoy the JJ content however also listen to loads of other DAB stuff now too. It has other benefits but that's the main reason I switched over to DAB. Hasn't been as 'amazing' as the Govt expected though which is why the analogue cut-off keeps getting pushed back and back and back :)

        • @SteveAndBelle: From my understanding a roll out will take a long time. Very little of Austraia is covered. Major city is one thing, but they are far from switching off analogue.

When they talk of regional DAB they mean Darwin, Canberra and Hobart.

      Good title for a song…

  • There was a time when you could get decent displays on single din units. Go into JB hifi now and everything just has a crappy basic screen like this one

Not everyone has a double din slot.

    rant over

Best to keep your eyes on the road.

  • anyone know if you can integrate this with the standard Toyota Camry Hybrid console?

I dont want to rip anything out, I want the DAB+ component to work with the existing …

    • +1

Anything is possible but it'll come at a cost and possibly a bit of hassle so you're probably better off keeping the stock system 'as is' then just add on something like this: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Car-DAB-FM-Radio-Bluetooth-FM-Tr…

This will tune DAB+ then transmit it to the existing head unit via FM or ideally via an AUX input (if the stock head unit has one).

      • hmm thanks for that

        • Buy a name brand unit though (Pure make the best add-on's IMO).

I've owned a number of non-brand DAB+ tuner add ons and most add a lot of electrical noise. My PURE Highway from a LOT of years ago however is still perfect. New Pure unit i bought 2 months ago from the UK is also great.

    • Just use TuneIn on your phone, provided you have reasonable data allowance.

This is honestly the sensible choice. As much as i love dab+ radio, i would be better off throwing the 100 bucks at my data costs.

  • With the way new car stereos are integrated into the dashboards these days do many people still do the whole stereo replacement these days?

    • +1

Yes, just means you need to buy additional fascia kits…
