  • How is this drive compared with OCZ Vertex 2 E Series?

    • E series is SLC. They are not in the same league. Comparing with Vertex 2, then are almost identical.

      • Just found this http://www.pcper.com/article.php?aid=911&type=expert&pid=6

Vertex 2 is almost identical but slightly faster.

      • +1

Note, I think you're talking about the EX series. The 2E is very similar to the series 2 (slightly changed controller I think). It's basically the same setup as the Corsair, with slightly different firmware (the OCZ seems to be a tiny bit faster).

The price is OK, but anyone thinking of getting this should also consider getting 2x 60GB SSDs and putting them into a RAID0 pair using the motherboard SATA RAID connections. Price isn't usually much different, but the transfer rates are doubled again.

        • Vertex 2 100gb & Vertex 2E 120gb have identical hardware, but different firmware. Both have 128gb of nand, but the 2 "puts aside" 28gb for wear leveling etc & the 2E only has 8gb.

On raid, true you will get much greater max read/write speeds, but you do sacrifice TRIM in Win7.

While TRIM signals can't make it through a RAID controller, the inbuilt garbage collection is pretty much as good, and 500Mb+ transfer rate isn't to be sniffed at in compensation.

Plus, of course, you can buy one 60GB drive and extend later.

What about against the new Sandisk Hyb8GBHD10K768AZL

Good god man how do you pronounce that monstrosity?

    • +3

I like how they are naming these drives :) just a simple approach, rolls right off the toungue

I bought a 60gb version of this same drive off ARC for $135. Seems ARC do have very cheap prices on a few of their SSD's. Their 120gb GSkill is quite cheap too

Regarding performance, these drives are basically the same speed as all the other SandForce controller based drives

    • can these work on any motherboard with SATA ???

      • yes, they work on any motherboard that can also support SATA-300 hard drives, so thats almost everything these days.

    • That is a good price!

  • How many years warranty?

  • just bought a OCZ Vertex LE 100GB for $199 few days ago :), but this is also a good price.

  • Conditions of sale:
"you have to spend a minimum value of $300.00 at normal listed prices from an ARC store first"

Its hardly a deal if I have to spend $300 dollars to get it cheap.

    • +2

Me thinks that applies to the conditional price of $233.31, not website price $237.93 as above.

      • +1

Yeah if you spend $300 you get $5 off the price, not worth it if you ask me but i just spent $5 more to get it for $238 and at that price its still awesome

  • Did they change the price?

    Mine now reads
    Website Price: $266.26 inc GST
    Conditional Price: $261.09 inc GST

    • Um yeah looks like they did but i ordered it at $237 they better not change the price on me when i go to pick up on wednesday!

      • all good they are going with the order price i placed, +1 to them for doing the right thing by me!

  • Says $243.60 today. Postage to WA is $18 too for a single drive.

  • Says 279 today for me.
