    I can't vote on more than 1 option…

    • Yeah.. I dont know how to fix this.. :(

Foxtel Now for me, I like having quite a few channels I can just have on in the background, as opposed to shows that I focus and watch though it does have on demand stuff as well. It also has shows that I enjoy some of which I don't think is on other streaming sites (like having simpsons, family guy, king of the hill all running in the background).

free stan from the amex promotion

    • -1

      Same here.

I really hate Stan now, even with free option, after 2 months, I'm thinking of sweet ol Flix.

  • +3

Youtube red, got it free from somewhere.

    None.
    I save my money

I have Stan, Netflix , and amazon prime.

    All for different shows

    • Anyone else have their US Amazon Prime streaming quality plummet to 1990s-awful levels a few months ago?

I'm using Getflix, wondering if it's their issue or a general thing for Australian users of US netflix with geo-unblockers.

      • Why are you using a VPN for amazon prime?

        • I thought they still had more movies/shows on the US version, has that changed now?

          (Not VPN, technically, DNS unblocker).

        • @ItsMeAgro:

I had a look myself; there appears at first glance to be difference in content between the two, and of course with the US one you can pay extra for more "channels" like all the HBO shows/movies.

But the current free trial then half price for the first 6 months made me cancel my US account for now and sign up for the AU one for a while.

  • Once Skymesh start making services other than Netflix quota free, i'll look into moving away from Netflix. I find it quite annoying how they can't get new episodes as soon as they've aired in the US - like Brooklyn Nine Nine. Would also be great if they can get TWD too.

Pay for TV - are you nuts?

    • LOL this makes me imagine what it's like for neglected kids who have no internet at home. They'd only have watched the rubbish that's on free-to-air TV these days, and would be so bewildered as to how or why there might be TV shows out there somewhere that might actually be worth paying for…

      • +1

Our house pays for Netflix and Stan, but I am still not sure that I see any shows worth paying for.
I'm a lousy target market though, I usually read a book during shows I'm at least nominally interested in…

Others in my house do seem to get many hours of watching out of the subscriptions.

  • Mainly Netflix though recently had a Stan trial so I could watch Preacher and Better Call Saul.

  • +2

Switch between Netflix and Stan, based on my binge watching cravings. Thanks to cancel anytime feature, easily manageable.

    • +1

This is the future, if each studio ends up with their own streaming service. We'll just have to switch services every month or so if we don't want to pay for them all.

    • What happens to shows you have saved on your list on Netflix when you cancel and resubacribe? I had assumed they would be deleted and you wouldn’t know when new episodes were out of shows you want to watch

      • +1

Nope, watch preferences remain, cancelled many times, average wait between resubscribing on one service 3 months and they are still there.

  • Stan, Netflix, Hulu, Spotify and a login for DirecTV, which gets me plenty of other channels.

    • And how much do you pay a month for all of these?

      • +3

About $50. Spotify is a family pass, paid a one-off fee for a login for DirectTV

        Still cheaper than Foxtel.

    • How do you get Hulu? My unblocker works for Hulu, but I don't have a US credit card.

      • +1

My Australian credit card worked, just had to put in a valid US address, which I used my shopshopgo address.

Can also buy prepaid vouchers, which is how I did it to start. Used to get 12 month vouchers on ebay for cheap.

        • +1

I really miss those cheap hulu vouchers you could get from ebay, they all just disappeared..

      • Sign up for a US PayPal account, add your credit card to that and you won't have a problem.

  • Leech my sisters Netflix but pay for stan.

    Netflix - better quality shows
Stan - for the odd show (power etc)

    torrents

why pay for streaming when you're already paying for internet access?

    • +1

Yeah stealing is the way to go. I do the same thing at supermarkets, why pay for mangoes when I can scan them as carrots.

      • -3

i don't think of it as stealing honestly.

i'm using the interwebs they way it was initially intended for.

        • Whether you do or don't doesn't matter, not paying for something is stealing.

        • -2

          @onetwothree:

Nope. Stealing would mean you've taken something of someone else's and they don't have it anymore.

Torrenting is making a copy of something that's already on the internet.

        • @0blivion:
thanks for clarifying my post much appreciated

        • +2

@0blivion: justify it however you want, doesn't make a difference to me.

        • Spying on Soviets?

        • +3

You might not think much of it, but when you add up everyone who torrents it takes away revenue and shows get cancelled. I do everything I can within reason to pay a reasonable monthly price for a decent streaming service. It’s generally the smaller shows that get canceled from low ratings when they’re still very popular. Plus, they do the work of making a decent series, so why not pay them for it. Netflix has a lot of their own content which makes up for the delay in releasing the latest stuff, but you can’t complain with the small amount they charge per month with no contract. Saying this, I use Vanished-VPN to get Netflix US, although don’t use it much nowadays with their own content released in AUS without delays. Stranger Things FTW!

    • +1

Aren't torrents banned now? How do you go around that? VPN?

  • +1

    Plex

More relevant content then all of the streaming sites put together.

  • +7

Pointless for me, after dinner, when I want to watch shows the NBN has slowed down to the point where most days it's just not happening.

  • Netflix…because someone else is paying for it

  • Google play music, because they have 3 or 4 month trials every 3 or 4 months :)

  • Kodi..

    • +1

It’s best not to throw Kodi under the bus when it’s a non-Kodi supported add on that you’re using. Kodi’s getting a bad rap for no reason.

      • How dare you accuse me of using non-Kodi supported add-ons!

  • Are there any viable streaming service for sports?

    • -1

Not once the NBN (profanity) up everyone's internet speeds there won't be.

And when the govt writes off the 30 million/Billion dollar 'loan' then we'll have paid for this shit out of our own taxes.

      • +1

I'm not sure that's the answer kpyam was looking for..

You can get a sports pack from foxtel now for $29 but you have to have a "starter pack" with it. Cheapest one is $10 so It would add up to $39

I think fetch also have sports packages but you would need a fetch tv box to get them.

I use Netflix (someone else's account), Stan, Hulu Plus, YouTube Red (Telstra credit) and have Foxtel, thinking of switching to Foxtel Now.

  • Netflix using a shared account and Spotify via a family plan. I don't think I would pay for these services if I had to pay their full monthly fees on my own but it's a small enough price to pay for the convenience to have them.

The free alternatives aren't always reliable and I would now rather utilise my free time to do other things others then download, organise and upload movies/music to their respective devices.

  • I watch Youtube & watch stuff stored locally on my NAS.

YouTube content is kind of sucking lately, though. If you subscribe to tech channels, for example, it is just a lot of the same shit being reviewed or benchmarked across all of the channels.

  • i use android box with kodi and other apps installed.

  • Could someone please explain what is youtube red and what can I watch there that is not available on regular youtube please.

  • +1

for free youtube red it is possible to shorten the url to redtube.com
