I use TorGuard and can vouch for good speeds

  • +1

i am using them for last 6 months +.
No trouble with connecting and have good speeds too

  • Anyone know how much extra data, going through a vpn takes?

    • +1

      simple answer, under 10%

complex answer: It really depends on
      - what encryption method is used
      - what protocol is used
      - what data is being transmitted
      - amount of packet loss (if you're routing through a VPN in Moscow to access servers in Oz, that's a long way

    • Approx 30 percent overhead data usage for VPN using AES or Blowfish.

  • +1

Have used for years, great product.

  • +2

How is it for things like Netflix?

    • +2

You need to purchase a dedicated streaming ip which is an additional $6/month ontop I think. But with the discount it's pretry much the price old VPNs were. You can't get netflix on traditional vpns since they've blocked a heap of IP addresses they use.

  • great product! been using it last 5months! speed is the fastest!

  • +1

Great for privacy / torrents etc. Some endpoints arent torrent optimised so check if youre getting bad speeds. And you can usually get this deal anytime of the year if you speak to the on website chat and ask for a code.

Still a great service and i'm into yr 2 now.

  • +1

So is the $40/yr for 2 years or indefinite (title says for life)?

i.e. can I keep renewing at half price forever?

    • +2

Correct, the 50% discount price is good for the life of your subscription.

      • Do you have some sort of trial offer or refund period?

        I noticed you have this?

You can cancel your account within 7 days without penalty.

Does that apply to this offer?

Tempted to go full 2 years but would really like to take it for a quick test first

        • Yes, our 7 day refund policy does apply to this promo.

Don't forget to claim your free VPN router if you get two years :)

        • +1

          @TorGuardVPN:

Hmmm, speed seems ok for now, will try again during peak (7pm?)
          http://beta.speedtest.net/result/6777754960

Also, slightly annoyed the name of your paypal account is

          Benjamin

Who is this Benjamin and why am I paying him :)

        • @Tigerhacker: What device are you using to perform that speed test? What speed do you get at the same time, same method but WITHOUT the VPN?

        • @Tigerhacker: Jesus dude, who is your ISP? That is really fast (granted, it is off-peak).

        • +2

          @TorGuardVPN:

how about existing client who is on 50% off?

if we pay 2 years subscription, are we getting the free VPN router?

        • +1

          @MarcusForShort:
          @sween64:

10+GbE pipe, but my machine only does 1GbE
Its was 'peak' on the network (my end) but still get 950/950Mbps+, 1ms ping so no bottlenecks there.

Unfortunately its not my Home connection, which is just 6mbit :(

Here's another speed test from just now
          http://beta.speedtest.net/result/6778044100
          166/131 Mbps
Connection appears to have had no dropouts so far (3 hours)

Also note that these tests are on their Sydney endpoint
          au.torguardvpnaccess.com Australia - Sydney

        • @Tigerhacker: what is your speed without vpn to a same server? or did you already say its 950+ both ways

        • +1

          @abuch47:

          Yep, 950+ both ways

          Me —> Speedtest(Telstra) ~950/950 mbps
          Me —> TorGuard (Sydney) —> Speedtest(Telstra) ~120/120 mbps

        • @Tigerhacker: ta, well thats a fair reduction is that normal for a VPN?

        • +1

          @abuch47:

99% of people don't have Gigabit Internet speeds* so I'd say its normal

For comparison, the highest tier of the 'NBN' is 100/40 mbps, which means with the VPN, you won't notice a speed drop

I should also note that all speeds I have stated are in megabits
          Speeds are in the format:
          download speed/upload speed

          *Citation needed

        • @Tigerhacker: sweet thats what i currently have but within two years would like to move up to 1gbps or 400mbps nbn if someone offers it at my POI.

Still hard to justify spending money on a vpn when i havnt heard anything from isp and ive been p2p since napster.

        • @edgar28:

Yes, the discount also applies to current customers who wish to upgrade. Just contact the support desk to renew and claim your free VPN router: https://torguard.net/submitticket.php

        • @TorGuardVPN: do i get the free VPN Router if I am renewing?

    • I used TGLifetime50 it was $us30/yr renewals for life, not sure if trhe coide still works, but it was working for about 3yrs.

I ditched them last year due to not being able to choose between servers in cites, thus you couldn't avoid crap ones.

      • You can click the "Pin" icon on any location to always connect to that specific server.

Or, just note the IP address and add it manually under the dedicated IP tab in the settings menu. We allow direct IP connections to shared VPN servers.

Our network should always provide you the best performing server in a given cluster.

  • We cant stream US Netflix if we just get the regular VPN access for $6.79/month can we?

    • To access Flix and other streaming services just add a dedicated IP add-on during checkout. The 50% promo code does apply to dedicated IP's.

      • Is that a one off payment or is it yearly?

        • You can pay monthly or yearly for dedicated IPs

  • What are the benefits of surfing/downloading through VPN? Why should I buy it?

    • +2

Your RSP and hence government agencies don't know what you are downloading or which websites you are visiting.

      • Where is TorGuardVPN located? The last thing we want is to share our data with US Govt.

        • +1

TorGuard's HQ is located in the US and our parent company VPNetworks is based in Nevis.

We have a strict no logging policy so there is nothing to share.

For best account privacy during signup use a burner email and pay with crypto. (Bitcoin, Litecoin, Monero)

        • @TorGuardVPN:

Do you accept UK gift cards as payment ?

Your website seems to point to only American gift cards so i need a sure answer and a list of accepted UK gift cards (PM).

Also to clarify your black Friday offer :

Biannual membership means life time payment of $49.99 every two years ?

ie annually it will cost $24.99.

        • @archy121:

At this time our gift card processor only supports US gift cards.

Yes, correct - with the Biannual discount membership you pay just $24.99 / year. Plus, you get a free mini VPN router.

  • Anyone have experience with the TorGuard service without a dedicated IP on Kodi with streaming add-ons?

  • +2

How does the VPN router work? Connect to it and be automatically connected to the internet via a VPN?

  • +1

I am a noob, what does a vpn router do?

    • +3

It's simply a router that connects to the VPN service meaning all your devices that connect through it use the VPN service.

This is something most routers can already do however it will likely be much easier to use the supplied VPN router due to it having minimal setup.

      • so connect it to current NBN modem, or through ISP router?

        • +1

Cable from street —> NBN NTU —> ISP Router —> 'VPN router' (optional) —> Your computer

        • @Tigerhacker: thanks tiger is it pretty much plug and play with the router? Would it be possible to run a pc off the vpn fulltime but leave the playstation without vpn on isp service without needing to turn things on and off?

        • +1

          @abuch47:

Not sure, it depends on how they have configured it (I don't have one)

For your second question, you could do

Cable from street —> NBN NTU —> ISP Router —> 'VPN router' (optional) —> Your computer
                                                    \—> PS

  • +1

Can this be applied to existing accounts? Asking for a friend…

    • +1

Yes, this promo is good for both new and existing accounts.

      • Hi I am an existing customer been with you for 2 or 3 years now. My subscription is up for renewal in May 2018. If I get the 2 years what will happen? will the 2 years start from the end of my existing subscription?

  • TorGuard user (not a heavy user- don't torrent, don't use Oz/US servers so can't answer questions posed here already) and they certainly have picked up their game this year. Used to have to watch the connection software try, try and try again to achieve a connection, now it seems first time every time.

My only wish is that some attention would be paid to having the chrome extension actually work as well as the whole of PC software. It's a great idea to have the VPN operate on a single tab in a browser rather than the whole of PC if only it would work!

Experience continual dropouts and auto reconnects and other end seems to "know" I am not local and blocks my signal (want overseas radio station) after a couple of seconds which doesn't happen on the Torguard all of PC software…same problem with Opera VPN-in-browser by the way.

    • Thanks for the feedback! We recently updated both our Chrome and Firefox SSL proxy extensions to fix some bugs and stability issues. You can find the latest version here: https://torguard.net/downloads.php

      • Thanks for that….update date seems to be before I installed the extension. Be that as it may I installed it again (I'd deleted it) and it worked flawlessly………hope it still does in a few hours when use becomes a necessity!

  • Why does Torguard need so much details before signing up?

    • Name and address is only required for credit card payments. (This is for fraud prevention purposes.)

No billing info is needed for PayPal, Bitcoin, Crypto, or Gift card payments.

  • I have been a customer for 12 months mainly to get US netflix
Using the windows mac mobile application this has worked flawlessly for 12 months
Speeds have been good - will get enough to do 4k

Only downside is getting it to work on a TV with ROKU / KODI

    • Can you tell me more about this downside to get it to work with KODI - thanks?

    • US netflix with dedicated US IP or connecting to a city with standard offering?

  • Thanks for the deal and post.
I have subscribed and added the dedicated IP. Can you point me in the direction of how to setup for US netflix.
I downloaded the client on WIN10 but have been unable to get it working.
    thanks!

EDIT - I have submitted ticket asking for IP setup! thanks

  • how does the VPN router work with this.

    • The Free Mini VPN router supports OpenVPN connections through TorGuard VPN. Simply copy our OpenVPN config files within the mini router's easy UI as seen here: https://torguard.net/knowledgebase.php?action=displayarticle…

For advanced users, the router also runs OpenWRT (Chaos Calmer) which is highly customizable for many different use cases.

  • https://torguard.net/vpn-network.php Why do I have to log in to check server status? Some countries there share the same national flags (The Netherlands & Luxembourg, Tunisia & Turkey)? Some countries are listed in the wrong continent (Turkey in Africa, Indonesia in Oceania)?

Also some countries are not listed on that page despite being listed here https://torguard.net/anonymoustorrentvpn.php (Vietnam, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, etc.)

    ;)

    • +1

Thanks for pointing this out. We are constantly adding new locations each month and this page will be updated very soon. At this time we offer VPN endpoints in over 57+ countries worldwide. Also, it is worth noting we do not employ "Virtual" VPN locations - all servers are physically located in the stated country.

  • Old customer here mate. And looks like I am happy to stay with you for another 2 years.
Anyway that existing users can opt for this ? I am interested in it only for the free router.

    • Thanks for the continued support! Yes, you most certainly qualify for the free router promo. Contact our support desk and we will ship it to you right away :)

  • I already got a router for FTTP, so what does this VPN router does? Not getting it, I am noob

  • I checked out, paid the usd 4.99 with paypal but still showing unpaid.
Have opened a "ticket" to try to get it fixed
Edit: working now, just took a while to go through.

  • Any one who used it, how good are the speeds with Torrents ?

    • +1

I get 85-95% of the speed I do without the VPN activated so pretty good

  • Apology for the noobs question.
I am using Windscribe from this Ozbargain deal:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/324910

    Speed has been good.

What do I miss from TorGuard VPN compared to windscribe?

  • +1 - good service and speeds

  • after trial with nord vpn i was getting 5 mbps speed almost 50percent less then without vpn with melbourne server.
i signed up for torguard for 2 years plan and its much faster almost 9 mbps .its way better then nord vpn.

    • Whats your speed without vpn, 10-15mbps?

      • +1

11-12 mbps with tpg .even when i connect to servers from singapore or other parts of asia speed is above 7mbps .tested via speedtestwebsite

  • Just signed up for 2 years. Anyone know if this router supports smart queue management to prevent buffer bloat?

    • +2

Yes, OpenWRT does support SQM although you must install this service on the mini router first. Here are the commands to install SQM on OpenWRT:

      opkg update # On OpenWrt

opkg install luci-app-sqm # On OpenWrt

Start SQM service and enable start on boot:

      /etc/init.d/sqm start # On OpenWrt

      /etc/init.d/sqm enable # On OpenWrt

      • I'm having trouble installing luci-app-sqm on the router using both GUI and SSH.
"Cannot satisfy the following dependencies for luci-app-sqm"
I think this link may be relevant? :
        https://forum.lede-project.org/t/unable-to-install-sqm-packa…

Sorry I'm a bit out of my depth here.

      • Never mind, the problem was I updated the GLI firmware. I downgraded the firmware and the package installs fine now.

  • -1

I already got a lifetime subscription of getflix… what can I do with TorGuard that I can't do with getflix? just more vpn servers I assume? I use getflix for streaming from different countries, eg usa.

  • torguard vs nordvpn?

looks like torguard has more servers but nordvpn doesn't need extra for streaming services

    • Nord After The Trouble i'm having.
I Think Nord had more servers that you could actually choose from Torgaurd does not give you the option it chooses them for you randomly from the country you choose.

  • I only just Joined. And well Having plenty of issues that i was not having with cyberghost or the trial with nord.
Wont detect address for i.p Dns errors not allowing to view sites whenever it chooses.
Had help from support which did help A little but , still issues.
Will be cancelling and going with nord which was easy to use and did not have a problem and speed was about the same when choosing the correct servers using the trial version.
Sorry i'm new to this how do i downvote!

    • +1

Big red negative atop the post but better to wait and see if an outcome can be resolved. @TorGuardVPN

    • I apologize for the issues you have encountered. Rest assured this is not normal and our support team would be happy to fix this for you.

Sometimes if you have other existing VPN software installed it can conflict with TorGuard or other VPN applications.

Please contact our level 2 support desk for a free remote support session via TeamViewer. Our technicians can fix this for you within just a few minutes: https://torguard.net/submitticket.php

Not To mention DNS Leaks all over the place using this program.

    • TorGuard's native VPN app features extensive DNS leak protection and DNS customization options. Please make sure "Block outside DNS" is checked under the settings/network tab. It is also possible to customize what DNS servers you use. For more info, please see here: https://torguard.net/blog/how-torguards-vpn-software-protect…

Just signed up for a 2 year sub with a streaming IP, my card was expired in PayPal so it defaulted to eCheque which could take up to 2 weeks to clear.
What's the likelihood of getting you guys to cancel this so I can make an instant payment with a new card?

Edit: Chatted to live support, submitting a ticket to have this done, so far great support.
Edit2: Sales agent refuses to cancel payment. Well I'm transferring all funds out of the attached account so the payment bounces, and you've lost a customer. I only signed up for this over the cheaper and more secure 2 year PIA offering because of the free router, but my router can already handle this functionality. Terrible support.

    • I'm really sorry to hear you've run into signup troubles. Please contact me via private message so I can make this right ASAP.

Usually PayPal eCheques clear within 5 to 7 business days and we can cancel/refund the payment before clearing. I assure you we can resolve this situation immediately! :)

      • -2

This still hasn't been actioned, no reply from you and your support team is hopeless.

        • Hi, for some reason PayPal will not allow us to refund this echeck until Nov 14th when the transaction is no longer pending. I apologize for this inconvenience.

        • -2

@TorGuardVPN: Yeah it's not a refund it's a payment request cancellation, I understand that the new interface isn't as intuitive but whatever they got it done finally.

  • I wonder whether the GL-MT300N Mini has release patch for the krackattacks.com

  • To the store rep,

does the vpn also work in China as well as I spend a fair bit of time over there?

    Thnx

    • Yes, the service is 100% verified to be working behind the great firewall. Use OpenConnect or OpenVPN Stealth servers to bypass strict VPN firewalls. For fastest speeds in China use the South Korea, Hong Kong, and Singapore VPN servers as these have good peering to China.

    • I used Torguard when I was in China a year ago. In my experience:
      - Speed was really slow.
      - Stopped working after 2-3 days. The servers which were able to bypass the Great Firewall disappeared from the list. I wondered whether they were shut down.

I didn't bother contacting customer service. I just signed up with ExpressVPN and was much happier with the speed.

      • We have recently added more network capacity in Asia so speeds are much improved this year.

  • -3

Thankfully Refunded. That's good however i would highly not recommend this VPN.
From The Start Complete Issues That Never Happened With Any VPN Out Of The Box I Had Used Before.
Google DNS Used Which Still Show Your location No Thanks and that is when it did work.

    • +1

Out of the box TorGuard VPN uses our own no log DNS servers on each VPN endpoint. So, your DNS will show as the VPN IP you are using - not Google DNS.

TorGuard users can also customize their own DNS settings if desired through the app.

  • -3

I was told to change settings in your software By Your Support Staff to make it work (As I Was Having Browsing Issues To Every Site Except Your Own Site) and they WHERE Google DNS Which then exposed my IPS Address From My Provider.
I Was Leaking DNS And was Open To Everyone to see.
    Clearlly Something Was Not Right.

Hence Why I Left As Quick As I Came To Use Your VPN Less Then 12 Hours from signing Up To You With High Hopes It Did Not At All Work The Way It Should.
