"minutes from Melbourne CBD" Preston is NOT minutes from the CBD in my books. -1

Yeh, 20 minute drive if there's no traffic…

    • A little HARSH aren't we? The poster does qualify that this is 20 minutes further down. Make the comment but is it THAT serious to warrant a negative vote under the guidelines. The poster is using a little creative license here, 15 minutes from the airport - 20 minutes from downtown, at 3am with VicRoads cameras out of action maybe, but in essence close to being true. Google maps gives generic Preston to Melbourne as 23 minutes via St Georges rd

Lets face it 1TB drives aren't 1TB available etc

But as this is a gray area your vote stands unless you decide to remove it

      • As a regular traveller to many cities - often new to me - when I read minutes to the CBD I assume it is within close walking distance, say under 15-20 minutes.

Google says this is 1 hour and 55 minutes to the CBD by foot (I put in an arbitory address in collins St for this purpose) so give or take another 10-20 mintes.

    • Agreed. In my experience you can get from the CBD to Deer Park in 20 minutes and would anyone consider Deer Park to be "minutes from the CBD"?

Careful walking out there at night… The Broady boys often come down that way looking to make new friends…

This is misleading. The only way this could be considered 'minutes from Melbourne's CBD' is if you have a helicopter at your disposal. On a busy road as well…

    • well, it's not hours

(17km from airport, 10km from city)

    • Perhaps "New York-style" = "Busy Road"? ;)

I paid the same for a nice place on the corner of Bourke St last xmas - which I would call minutes from the CBD - This is way out there and not at all convenient if you want to kick around the CBD for a short break.

Agree with everyone, the desription is totally misleading. "Minutes" from the CBD should be less than five or 10 and via foot. Preston is NOT the place to stay if you are visiting Melbourne.

    • unless you traveled here to visit the Preston Market

      • I hear it's internationally reknowned

  • People read past the first line…..

puts hand up I DID I DID!!!

    • I did too. I think most people are objecting to the OP's creative licence and warning people less knowledge of Melbourne. "Minutes from Melbourne's CBD" could mean anything up to 59 minutes away via any form of transport known to man. In theory it could mean Sydney….via a plane.

      • +2

IMHO, the OPs creative licence needs to be revoked. If they're going to put inverted commas around ‘New York-style’ they should be putting triple quotes around 'minutes from Melbourne’s CBD'.

I'm 'minutes from the Melbourne CBD' too - about 450 would be my estimate…

I think that moderators sometimes need to give posters on Ozbargain a little more credit for ferreting out the over-sell in some bargains.

Map: http://tinyurl.com/3yppv3l As with any hotel, don't believe the marketing. Just look it up and decide if the location suits you.

    • Haha busted.

  • Hi all. Thanks for your feedback. I have amended the first paragraph to clearly state that the property is 20mins from Melbourne's CBD. If you read on, you will notice that the travel time is clearly stated from both Melbourne's CBD as well as Tullamarine Airport. I hope that this clears up any concerns.

    • MUCH better. Sells the benefits without leaving too much to the imagination.

  • Just drove past and they ha a sign advertising studio rooms from $75. Would the rep like to comment on this?

  • @tomsco - Thanks for your comment. Are you sure that the deal you saw on the sign board out the front was not referring to the cheaper Sleep & Go property which is in the same Bell City complex? Our producers here at Travelzoo have a very rigorous process where they research, evaluate, and test book all deals that Travelzoo publishes. We also work very closely with the properties direct to ensure that we create a deal that is the best available for our consumers.

The standard rate for a studio room is $149 so it seems very unlikely that Rydges would be advertising this room at 50% off like this.
