I feel like this is all part of Xiao Mi's plan to take over the world! I just spent the entire night researching about Xiaomi's air purifier. Came to OzB only to see the front page being flooded with XM's products..from pens to phone, now to a weird cube thing that supposedly connects "all your XM products" together.

I can imagine XM's CEO siting in his office laughing at all of us while reading about our personal lives through all the XM products we've purchased through OzB…

Puts tin foil hat on and fades into the darkest corner of the room…

So what's the verdict on the air purifier?

TLDR: XiaoMi purifier 2 is good, but not as good as something 10x its price (IQAir).

I watched a youtube video comparing XiaoMi,Media,Sharp,Philip,Blue Air,IQAir. XiaoMi being the cheapest and IQAir being the most expensive. Their conclusion was IQAir was the best performing machine, but it was also 10x the price.

XiaoMi has copied other top-end brand(check out Balmuda AirEngine) well,it was outstanding for its price-point but a little bit noisy.

I had my mind set on the XiaoMi, until I found out it had an ongoing maintenance cost (~$70/year for the replacement filter). The OzB in me weighed up copping that amount potential indefinitely vs uncontrollable sneezing for maybe 3-5months/year; I'd continue sneezing.

EDIT: Don't buy XiaoMi air purifier 2 from GearBest, the shipping cost kills it. Buy the air purifier from ebay with 5% off, then replacement filter from GB(free shipping + on sale RN).

PS: Still need to be convinced over copping ~$70 for replacement filter every year.

    • Off topic, but which Xiaomi air purifier did you end up choosing? i was thinking about buying one.

    • looks like they've come out with Xiaomi Mi Air Purifier 2S and Pro series with OLED display ($400 for Pro/2S compared to $160 for 2 series)

the filter replacements seem to be $40-44 roughly on sale instead of $70

      • "…you get a device with a Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR) value of 310m³ / h and can cover a room the size of between 21-32 square metres. This is quite lower than that of the second-gen Mi Purifier 2 and Mi Purifier Pro. For clarity, the Purifier 2 has a CADR of 406m3/h and can cover a working area of 48 square metres while the Pro version has a 500m3/h CADR and is also capable of covering an indoor area of 60 square meters. Xiaomi Mi Air Purifier 2S"

It doesn't really seem like an upgrade apart from the geeky stuff + potentially cheaper filters?

  • Cute but compared to some of the other items we recently got it's hard to justify the price. US$7 and I'd be trying it out.

  • awesome. been waiting for this to be on sale.

    Thanks OP and rep!

I paid a lot more than this for one I got during a Banggood flash deal last weekend :-(

Perhaps I'll have to console myself by buying two more from GB….

  • It needs to be priced at $5 as it is slightly expensive than xiao mi wireless swith in xiao mi official website.
