Back with another dashcam deal and this time Ali were able to knock a further US$12 off. This is 70mai's high end model, as it features the Sony Starvis 2 sensor for providing better image quality in low light, better dynamic range and less motion blur making number plates and other details more clear. It offers 4K resolution video at the front and 1080p video at the rear.

This one includes a hardwire kit with a 4G module that when paired with a SIM is able offer additional features including instant app alerts when collisions occur (i.e. when parked), remote viewing of the dashcam via the app and live "Find My Car" tracking functionality. There's additional optional settings such as recording when it detects someone standing too close to the car. Given the 3G shutdown there's the possibility it may not work. I'd assume it would be similar to a mobile router with a data SIM and continue to function.

Like others it has all the usual features including HDR, GPS, ADAS, 150 degree field of view, dual channel recording, night vision, collision recording, WiFi connectivity, microSD card slot, USB-C connectivity and more.

For those paying in USD this is how you get the correct exchange rate in PayPal:

Setting overseas websites to AUD or letting PayPal do the currency conversion results in an inflated rate. To get the correct rate you need a card without international fees and do the following:

  • Set the website currency to USD
  • Checkout with PayPal
  • Select your card with no international fees
  • Click "See currency options"
  • Select USD to bill the card in USD instead of AUD
  • Proceed with checkout

Now you'll get the correct MasterCard or VISA exchange rate depending on the card.

  • With the 3G shutdown will this device still work with getting data from a SIM card?

    • +1

I'd expect a data SIM would work perfectly fine, similar to how a mobile router works.

Either way I've included a warning now.

  • Just bought VIOFO A229 Plus in another deal, is this better deal since it is 4k for front camera.

    • +1

No. See comparison but this is what makes the Viofo better for Aussie conditions in my opinion.

A229 Plus model employs a supercapacitor. This durable power source performs better in extreme temperatures compared to the lithium-ion battery used in the 70mai.

      • Agree! Thanks!

        • And the comparison I linked has the previous version of the a229. The new version is 2k front and back. Note, the 4g module if that's a deal breaker.

I bought the A229 plus from aliexpress recently for around the same price as this with hardwire kit and CPL filters. Wasn't too difficult to install if you have the right equipment and plenty of 'how to install' videos on YouTube.

  • amazing value from 70mai…Iveused their dashcam 1080p and the 1440p ones with 24/7 parking surveillance for over 6 months now

  • Curious question, does the screen display the rear camera when you put the car in reverse?

    • No, tgey would need to be wired into your car's electrics to detect you shifted into reverse. No usual dashcam suspects have this feature. Also the screens are tiny for that purpose.

  • I've just purchased the UP04 kit separately (wasn't aware until this deal) as I already have the dual camera kit. So, thanks for that!

Just an FYI - on the page for the kit it lists supported countries and Aus isn't on the list. Though it may not be an exhaustive list.

I'm not in Aus and my country is listed however.

    • If your country is not among the following countries, it means that our R&D personnel have not yet tested 4G functionality in your country. Please purchase with caution as we are unable to provide you with after-sales services.

This is the important part of that. Someone will have to try and see :)

  • Big downside of this camera is that it's only 25fps for 4k at the front.

Your options are kinda limited though at low prices if you want Starvis 2..

  • Here is the reply I received from support at 70mai asking what 4G frequency bands their UP04 Hardwire Kit supports:

Thank you for reaching out to us.
    Please check the below information:
    - LTE-FDD : B1/B3/B5/B7/B8/B20/B28
    - LTE-TDD : B38/B40/B41
    - GSM: 850/900/1800/1900MHz

So, its 4G bands includes the main Australian 4G bands, so, in theory, their UP04 Hardwire Kit should work in Australia.
