  • Just noticed when trying to register that its not $5 credit but $10.
Thank you OP for the post.
Just in time, when I was looking for same kind of product.

    • If you're signing up for a new club account it's $10 credit but costs you $5.

The $5 credit mentioned in the OP is one that Supercheap just sent out to existing members.

    • but it costs $5 to sign up.

  • I seem to remember these were banned few years back.
    Buyers beware.

The failures were with the old non-CRV gas cylinders I believe, people would put big pots on the stoves which would reflected heat down onto the gas cylinder which caused them to heat up and explode… A misuse issue really, but this is unlikely to happen in a catastrophic way with the new CRV gas cylinders…

There was a recall on the SCA 2 burner stoves due to dodgy o-rings:
      http://media.supercheapauto.com.au/sca/files/user/notice/AHM…

    • The units are fine. Do not use a large pan or pot that will transfer the heat to the gas bottle compartment.
      Common sense…

  • They were taken off the shelves a few years back. I think some bloke injured himself doing something stupid.

It is my understanding a safety modification was made to the design, and that is why they are available again.

Others may know more about this.

Using a pot/saucepan that was too large. Resulted in heat getting to the butane can and causing it to explode.
I bought one after the redesign, I can't tell if anything changed but it did come with a piece of paper recommending the size restriction on pots/pans. Only like 30cm iirc.

  • Are there any other alternatives at this price?

  • How long do the butane cylinders last? Would be kind of a waste if you don't get a decent burn time out of them.

    • +2

They last a fair while, a reasonable amount of time… I use one of these stoves in my campervan and the cylinders last close to a week with boiling water for my morning coffee and cooking my dinner each night…

(if you're a BCF member they dished out a $10 voucher today, they have the gas, 6 for $9.99)

still available at Mudgee and Lakemba NSW

    • What about giving us all the stores in between - since you have researched things so well 😀 :)

Sheesh, you sure take the long detours between Mudgee and Lakemba :)

  • Would this be good for seasoning a new steel wok? I don't want to do it in my kitchen (studio apartment with bad ventilation) and would prefer to do it outside (but don't have a BBQ). Does it get hot enough?

    • +1

It would do it, just be sure that the pan does not cover the gas cyclinder compartment and trasmit the heat onto that.

  • Was at Bunnings last weekend and I recalled seeing 4 x butane bottles are selling for under $5.

  • sorry for asking, does anyone know the gas can whether is standard size for all? any brand gas can can fit to this stove or have to buy specific brand gas can. Thanks

    • Universal fit, standard size.

      • TA

  • This similar stove is also $15 at big W at the moment
The butane gas cannister's last about half a an hour too.
Standard size , one size fits all.

    • -1

Not sure what your doing but the gas canister lasts me about 10 days cooking 2 meals a day

    • I think if you turn to maxmium it can last 2~3 hours

      • Bit of a guess based on last time camping
Don't know how you're getting 10 days worth, but then most of my heat probably blew away while cooking outside at a windy beach

I got this stove with the 4 butane cartridges the last time they went on sale, thought I'd go camping more, turns out I'm more of an outdoors person in Skyrim.

If there's a power failure at least you'll be able to enjoy a hot coffee ;)

      • +1

Didn't think of that, cheers. I can also feed the kids hot beans and tomato puree!

  • Slightly offtopic: I got a $2 adapters from ebay so I can refill the $12 screw top hiking cartridges from these cheap butane cartridges, it works well..
    https://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&_nkw=G…

(I like to use the short dumpy hiking cartridges when I'm camping off the motorbike because they fit nicely in my cooking pot with the gas burner, keeps everything compact)

Probably distracted by Facebook 4wd (profanity) group who decided to camp on top of me and steal my sand pegs to set up while we were surfing DI
Hard to believe there's complete (profanity) out out there at my local point.
    Not really surprised anymore
    Fark
Thinking WA is a better option, but hard to give up QLD to the tossers
