Geez… how do they make any money on these things ???? Surely it costs more than that to manufacture them…

      • That's what I'm wondering? Are they skimming Credit Card numbers or something?

These internal card readers are really the same as those cheap USB card readers you can buy on eBay in the $2 shop. They just have a different plug (they connect to a USB header on the motherboard instead of a USB port), a bit more plastic (to sit in a 3.5" bay) and a couple of screws.

Hong Kong Post is extremely slow at the moment, if you want to see it before mid-December a local seller is a better choice (and really, $6 is a pretty good price).

      • mid-december? i doubt it would be that long.. i just bought one, i'll let u know when it arrives..

what makes u say HK post is very slow `at the moment' ?

        • I ordered a cable from hong kong that was shipped 3 weeks ago and it arrived yesterday. It is pretty slow. But if you don't mind waiting… cheaper.

In my past experiences it's usually 1-2 weeks.

The Christmas rush has hit early this year. I'm still waiting on stuff posted in late September.

There are whinge threads everywhere, including on Whirlpool and Dealextreme's forums. HK Post has also had a couple of notices up on their site lately although they've understated the problem.

        • Mmmz yes i read the notices at hongkongpost website.. its funny that New Zealand only needs something posted 24th november to arrive by xmas, and australia needs it to be posted by the 4th november. Why is NZ so much better off than us?

This is disappointing cos i have quite a few things coming from HK, maybe i'll get lucky :) hehe

      • Yes I agree. I often buy stuff from china and it usually arrives in about 5-7 working days but the last month has been very slow, seems like the average postage time for the last month has been about 15-20 working days.

    • I didnt even look on ebay but that is cheaper than what it costs to post one within Australia!

I have a couple of DX orders that were posted 4-6 weeks ago that have not yet arrived (including my kids Halloween costumes). DX said that this is the peak period for post due to Halloween and Christmas and to be patient. Any orders from this point on might not get here till after Xmas.

    • The latest update from Hong Kong Post is that the last posting date for stuff to get to Australia by Christmas is December 9th. If they're going to meet that they're going to have to pull their finger out, though.

I've been looking for a card reader myself…I'd buy this one from Ozstock but for the fact that it doesn't have the extra USB port like a lot of 3.5" card readers do.

No pickup = NOT FREE. Price is $5.98 delivered.

  • Does this read MemoryStick Pro DUO? The cards used in Sony PSPs.

  • surely it doesn't cost more than $1 to ship

    • If they can keep the package under 2cm thick, then it's $1.20. Over that thickness, then it's $4.20 (excluding packaging materials etc).

      • That is the old price, it is $4.55 now

    • In a box it is over 4cm thick, you cant post a box for $1

For you to post one it will cost you $4.55, ozstock may get a small discount if they are posting a large number of items.
