    Smith’s Chips or Doritos Corn Chips 175g $4.00 (save $1.98, 33%)

Would that be 2 for $4? As a bachelor I am very sensitive to the price of corn chips, nachos are a staple food.

Protip: Doritos come in 175g packs whereas CCs are 200g for the same regular price of $3, and the brands regularly alternate going on special down to $2.

    • Thanks - updated.

    • coles had an epic $1.35 for a packet of 175g doritos about 6 - 8 weeks back.

      • Crikey!

    • Don't forget Mission Extra Cheese Chips which are 230G. I always used to buy Doritos but since they dropped their pack size to 175g, I have moved to Mission. Not only do I find them tastier, you get 55g more for usually around the same price.

  • Is Gillette Fusion Shave Gels good? Thanks

    • they are just fancy named shave gels… i've used the fusion and the earlier versions, i don't see any difference… so i just go for the cheapest gel i could get… what a rip to pay $8+ (usual price) a bottle.. shaving with petrol is way cheaper.

      • +2

what type of petrol do you use?

And if you light up afterwards you can do a dog impression: go "woof". Hahaha :)

        • good one :)

  • Select sunscreen range will be handy with summer coming up.

Woolie's specials have been consistently crap. I prefer to buy from them cos I pump Caltex but have found myself going to Coles for their specials the past couple of months.

Has any one noticed the 175g pack Doritos chips have recently changed size from 200g to 175g.

    • Yeah it's the grocery shrink ray at work.

They've gone from 200 to 190 to 175 in the last few years.

    • Yep, noticed that too with great disdain. Now my cash goes to CCs instead. Shrink ray can go to hell.

    • Yes, I have only bought Mission and CCs since Doritos reduced their pack size.

Fergus, you are seriously awesome. This no doubt takes a lot of time but my family really benefits from your hard efforts…..if only you could monetise this!

  • might pick up some tuna, cheers brah appreciate the post

  • We had some Woolies Ribaldo fish today (bought on the run for a BBQ at a similar price to this special).

Surprisingly flavourful and good! Baked in foil and olive oil, on the barbie.

Hope this helps people who can't get to a local independent fish shop and have to settle for Woolies fish. :)

  • I never trust woolies fish, sits there for ages and its often frozen.

    • I only trust fish from the ocean.

    • +2

sits there for ages and its still frozen?

ive been a seafood manager previously for woolies and frozen seafood shouldnt be placed on sale for weights and measuring reasons, not to mention the visual. Tell them to step up thier game if they want your business. I tend to find that some people are actually quite clueless about seafood, even at woolies

      • +1

Every Woolies I've been to has had at least some still frozen stock in the display! I would definitely agree on the aesthetics, selling rock-hard slabs of frozen fish just ain't appealing at all! ;)

      • This is a never ending battle isn't it. I too used to work at woolworths, as a grunt mind you, and I always noticed one thing. Managers expecting too much from too little staff. I don't think it will ever change, but working flat out trying to serve customers leaves little time to get the fish as it should be. I always had this gripe, Woolworths could improve productivity and asthetics massively if it just employed another "team member" in each department.

Just wondering, how many people on this bargain site really do buy their groceries at woolies? Fruit and veg shops are almost always cheaper. I can understand the toiletries and household stuff, but not any actual food products -aside from the homebrand tins ;D

    • +1

Fruit and veg shops are almost always cheaper.

Not in my area! Whilst the local guys occasionally have the odd item or two that comes in under the big chains; across the board the sheer buying power & competition means the little guys just can't compete.

    • Fortunately there are greengrocers near the Coolies (or should it be Woles?) that I visit most often, unless they are selling spuds at 4kg for $4 or something like that. The greengrocers have cheaper prices; the appearance of the product is not always perfect, but it's just cosmetic.

    • Woolies/Coles are more expensive so I just shop there for specials and milk.

Everything else is done at Aldi :)

Fruit/Veg shops are often in the middle of Woolies and Aldi.

      • Sadly, I've found the fruit & veg at Aldi to be of an extremely low standard! The fruit never seems to ripen, it just goes directly from green to off; and the vegies won't seem to last more than a day or two before they're in the compost as well! :(

Have I just had a bad run with them, or does anybody else find this? I know the stuff from the two big chains isn't much better, but I can at least eat theirs at some point! ;)

    • I don't buy fresh fruit and veg from Woolies unless it's on special or I need onions urgently, but those aren't usually on these catalogues anyway. There's actually very few fruit and veg shops accessible by public transport where I stay, and they're more expensive than the Big 2.

However, I do go to the Rocklea markets on Saturday mornings some weeks - the stuff is so cheap, nice and varied that it's worth the time and money spent going.

I'm moving soon though, and it might be Coles for a while until I find some other place… or go to the West End markets or something.

  • The Almonds are a reasonable price, & the Leg of Lamb is great @ $8.94 kg.

    • The seasonal almond price must be low, all my local fruit shops are doing them for $5/500g bag ATM! ;)

  • It says 2 of any Red-JWalker, Bundaberg, Smirnoff (1 litre each). Is it a good deal? Or can we be better off in another stores?

  • its okay, they always have that deal.

Maybe Dan Murphy (owned by the same company though) will be a few bucks cheaper or something. But its still good, i would buy it if you need some liquor.

  • Has that Sunblest bread EVER been out for other than 2x$5? I get it basically weekly.
