  • Doesn't work if you've already used up the code last time around.

    • Ok cool - lucky for me I hadn't ;)

  • +1

still havent received orders from September 17.

    • +1

Received mine early last week (Tuesday I believe). So hopefully yours aren't far off.

      • Me too.

I have upvoted this because they are cheap and great fun, but I thought I should give you some feedback after having played with one of them before:
    1) They are pain in the butt to assemble. Maybe because I have fat fingers, who knows.
    2) You will almost need a magnifying class to read the instruction and to assemble the unit.
    3) The instruction is not the easiest to read/understand. May be because I don't have a magnifying class.
    4) Tip: Use the right tool. Using a pair of regular small scissors to cut metal does not work .. i've learned the hard way … lol.

FYI, I am used to making plastic Gundum models, so I consider myself to be able to assemble small parts, but this is not a trivial toy you can throw to a 14 year old (min. recommended age according to the package).

But for that price, give it a go. Hope you have more fun than I did.

    • +1

Can confirm the above, I dropped a piece for my TIE fighter and it landed on my carpet still haven't found it.

The parts are tiny, with the smallest pieces on the tie fighter kit being about 4x4 mm. They are fun but I feel it's something you need to invest yourself in a bit as the assembly takes more then a couple hours.

    • I own and have built this model and in setting the pilot for the X-Wing, I accidentally broke the head off of the pilot… Can't really tell unless you know that a bit is missing.

I have found that using nail tweezers is great for getting a grip on the tabs that need to be bent either 90 degrees or twisted and cuticle clippers are great for removing pieces from the template sheet with minimal jagged bits where they were connected. For the rounded bits (engines?) I wrapped the pieces around a pencil to begin with and then used the tweezers to tighten them in the correct shape.

    • For those that want to see what's involved, here's a guy building the X-Wing model

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IC6KeaAHelQ

      (Note: Nose ring is optional)

Yeah, these models are definitely fiddly to build, but the challenge of model-building is half the fun… and satisfaction ;)

Take your time. Build it over multiple sessions is often recommended. Double check the instructions. And if in doubt, there's plenty of YouTube videos to help with instructions and tips

    Code expired :(

    • Still working for me - are you signed in?

      • Yep, I’m signed in. “The Code you entered has expired.
Code for single unit price only; VIP Price, Special Offer or Group Deal all exempt”

        • Used the code before?

        • @urbancartel:
Not used before. All good. I’ll try again next time :)

    • Same here. Maybe it's only 1 use per month.

    • just worked for me

  • Thanks OP, just worked for me!

  • Code expired for me. Can confirm i've never used the code on my account before.

  • These are absolute rubbish to put together.
i ended up just glueing them after i cut my thumb a sharp and small piece.
Save your money for a cone ice cream and dont bother with this

    • you've made the mistake of actually buying it for yourself. This is just cheap Christmas sock fillers for those cousins you rarely see or like

      • +4

Then most likely you are the type of cousin I do not want anything from cause they are most likely rubbish and take up landfill space.

  • I found the perforated bits on my AT-AT to be really flimsy - the sides of it's head are currently no longer attached and will need some gluing.

I moved them a few times - into position to see how it looked, back out again to gain access to the pins inside, into position to check something and by then they were so poorly attached a gentle breeze would have knocked them of.

That being said, they look pretty cool.

  • These things aren't easy to put together. Instructions aren't very and it's so touchy.
Wouldn't really recommend unless you hate your kris kringle

  • +5

    Easy to assemble

    …HA!!

  • +1

I thought this was incredibly hard to assemble. Did anyone get as far as bending the pilots helmet or the little R2D2. WTF. At that point the x-wing took its first flight, without any wings, into the garden bed.

    • I got one done, see pictures on this thread https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/338403

      • +1

You obviously have a lot more patience and a softer touch than i do. The more frustrated i got the rougher i got with it

        • You're gonna need a bigger hammer

  • +3

I've only attempted one so far and it was a total debacle, the provided instructions are useless. Go to this website and download their PDF instructions, they are so much clearer.

  • I'm getting expired (while logged in)

  • Pretty fiddly and took ages but looks pretty cool.

Some people buy a coffee each day for a few dollars. Me, I buy something from Gearbest. It's a lifestyle choice and I stand by it.

  • +2

I've never done any modeling before but found this pretty straight forward. I used tweezers, leatherman style pliers and a few drill bits for rolling. It got a little agonizing putting the jets together on the x-wing and had to keep reopening the cockpit as I missed a few items. Drawings weren't as good as the Millennium Falcon, which was the better of the two. Amazing lazer cut tech, I wonder what could be flat packed on a larger scale.
    Not for kids.

  • I've placed 2 orders with GearBest recently, both with 10-25 day registered Aus Post delivery. It's been about 6 weeks and neither has arrived yet:

The first was paid for on 18th Sept and didn't ship until 17th October (items were ready after 2-3 weeks, but then they sat there for another 1-2 weeks doing nothing despite me complaining). The latest update was on the day it shipped "Collection Shenzhen (guangdong) - CHINA". The Australian tracking number is invalid according to Aus Post…

The second was paid for on 21st Sept and shipped on 10th October. The latest update was on the day it shipped "Collection Shenzhen (guangdong) - CHINA". The Australian tracking number is invalid according to Aus Post. This is concerning as shipping is meant to take 10-25 days. There's only 5 days left and Aus Post still doesn't even recognize the tracking number. I've seen a lot of people claim the tracking numbers are fake.

At this rate it'll be 2 months before my items arrive, IF they every arrive.
If it goes beyond that and the tracking numbers are still not working I'll ask PayPal to reverse the charges.

    • I've had an item which seemed to be sitting in Shenzhen for a good 3 weeks, with no updates whatsoever, but then it showed up at my address. All in all took about 5 weeks. It may still come, even if the shipping information never updates!!

      • That's good to hear. Still BS given they offer the option of paying extra for an Aus Post tracking number which doesn't actually work. I think I'll dispute that part of the cost with PayPal to teach them a lesson. Failing to provide the advertised service.

        • The AusPost tracking probably doesn't work till it gets to Australia.

        • @bmerigan:
Yep, however as mentioned in my original post, the parcel is meant to arrive in 4 days now at the absolute latest, so you'd expect it to have entered Australia by now. Also as hinted at in my post, there are many people whose tracking numbers never worked and tracking info never updated after China, even on the morning before their package arrived. In fact I've never seen anyone say their tracking number did work…

        • @Viper8: there are global tracking websites out there (Google it) where I've had some success with tracking numbers which didn't work as expected for me. You enter the number and it will check all the courier's tracking sites for you

        • @bmerigan:
          Thanks for that.
"The shipment carrier doesn't have the tracking number in their system yet".
So its certainly going to go beyond the max of 25 days delivery.

  • The bits are very flimsy.
    It's impossible without tweezers.
You sometimes need to read ahead because some of the bits are hard to reach in once you've folded it up. Fold it up last.

But it looks awesome once completed. As in the picture. Just don't touch it again or it'll fall apart. Actually, don't even leave the windows open, it'll blow off and break. It's probably not good for children, too delicate.

It's amazing all the fun you can have from just a sheet of aluminium.

  • X-wing has turned out great. No issues, though I'm glad I checked Youtube before I started.
TIE fighter was more frustrating and is not nearly as sturdy.
    https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/43695/53461/imag1447.j…

  • Not for the fat fingered! Lots of fun, but becomes frustrating very quickly. I was born with fat fingers. I didn't choose to be, but it is what it is.

  • wanted to order, expired :(

      • I can't add it, says expired. Not sure what now.

        • Just make a new gearbest account and order, these codes have some weird stuff going on.

  • Got mine in the mail today and tried to make the tie fighter. First bloody piece broke in half WTF these things are stupidly fiddly yet some pieces just crumble.

    Devo!

  • Wow received mine in the mail today, standard untracked delivery was chosen.
How come this item delivered so quick? Was expecting 3 weeks wait.

  • Mine arrived today. It was much smaller than I expected too. The two flat pieces of metal essentially fit in an envelope. I decided to bin it after a sharp piece drew some blood. It seems the asssembly relies on friction and pointy bits to hold the parts together. I'd give it 1/10 - I think it would have helped if you were ar least mildly co-ordinated :D

  • I threw all of mine in the bin. What a piece of junk.

  • Mine never arrived
