    I'm seeing $105 cashback.

Edit: nevermind, it's in USD I believe.

    • $135 after conversion from USD to AUD*

Not really a deal. The costs involved in becoming an Uber driver exceed this amount. You have to become accredited with the TSC (about $30), but this involves a physical (eye/hearing/health) examination, which most GPs charge about $300 to do (and I don't believe you get any back from Medicare). You also have the fuel costs of driving to Port Melbourne and back for the vehicle inspection. In summary - if you're signing up to Uber just for an "easy" $135, don't bother.

When I was an Uber driver the cost of the health examination was free. The only cost I had was the $35 application fee for a drivers authority from Queensland transport. The vehicle inspection is free and can take place at any of a number of mechanics.

Free?! I don't know of any GP that would offer free medical examinations for driver accreditation.

        • I don’t know what to tell you… the only cost I had was the driver authorisation.

        • @Flying Ace:

Well, which GP/health clinic did you go to?

        • @MrZ: I went to a bulk billing GP on the Sunshine Coast.

    • You also have the fuel costs of driving to Port Melbourne and back for the vehicle inspection

Highly doubt that's what Uber would require.

      • Lol thats actually required. Driving there for them to check your car.

Other than that the police check, driving history cost is all on Uber.

        • Not in SA, it costs a few hundred to get started

I Did a few trips. The ato hassled me til I got an abn, registered for gst and did a BAS. Not worth it for a few trips.

Better ask any of your friend. My friend referred me and I got $600 but that is after completing 20 trips

    • How does this work? I have a friend who is an Uber driver…

      • Uber drivers generally get message from UBER for referring a friend. The referring amount is different every time. Last year during Christmas it was $1200. So find some friend who is driving UBER and ask him to let you know when higher amount is available.

    • +1

Wrong. The friend (i.e. the one who refers you) gets the $600, not the other way around. Of course, a decent friend would split it.

      • Depends on offer. Many offers give both person some cash.

    Not seeing the deal here.

Yes, you get cashback so it's better than without - but that's the same for any cashback merchant, and I don't see that just being cashback is a deal unless there's a special promotion which isn't mentioned here.

You're almost certainly behind after the start up costs of joining Uber.

If anyone wants to know a bit more about our mates at Uber check out the episode called 'Uber' on the podcast "The Dollop". Absolutely eye opening and can guarantee after listening to it you'll never look at Uber the same way.
