Nintendo’s follow-up console to the legendary Nintendo Entertainment System, returns in a new petite form as the Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Nintendo Entertainment System. Launched in Australia and New Zealand in 1992, the Super Nintendo introduced what many consider some of the greatest video games of all time – classics such as Super Mario World, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Super Mario Kart, Super Metroid and F-ZERO.

The Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Nintendo Entertainment System contains 21 pre-installed classic games, and can easily be plugged into a high-definition TV using the included HDMI cable. For the first time, players who pick up the system can enjoy the intergalactic adventure Star Fox 2, the sequel to the original Star Fox (originally titled Starwing upon release in Australia and New Zealand) that was created during the Super Nintendo era but never released … anywhere!

The Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Nintendo Entertainment System has the same look and feel of the original system – only smaller – and comes pre-loaded with 21 games:

Contra III: The Alien Wars™
Donkey Kong Country™
EarthBound™
Final Fantasy III
F-ZERO™
Kirby™ Super Star
Kirby’s Dream Course™
The Legend of Zelda™: A Link to the Past™
Mega Man™ X
Secret of Mana
Star Fox™
Star Fox™ 2
Street Fighter® II Turbo: Hyper Fighting
Super Castlevania IV™
Super Ghouls ’n Ghosts™
Super Mario Kart™
Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars™
Super Mario World™
Super Metroid™
Super Punch-Out!!™
Yoshi’s Island™
All of these games would be considered classics by anyone’s standards, and some of them in particular – Secret of Mana, Final Fantasy III, EarthBound and Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars – are massive role-playing games that can take dozens of hours to complete. Even for super fans that have played all of these games multiple times, the inclusion of the never-before-released Star Fox 2 will offer them something entirely new to enjoy (players must prove their skill by completing the first level of the original Star Fox before Star Fox 2 is unlocked to play).

Included with the Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Nintendo Entertainment System are one HDMI cable, one USB power cable*, and two wired Nintendo Classic Mini: Super NES Controllers – perfect for players to dive into multiplayer action right away. Some of the games with multiplayer options include Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting, Super Mario Kart, Contra III: The Alien Wars™ and Secret of Mana.

So RRP has become the new bargain?

    • +5

I agree it's not that much of a 'bargain' but it can be hard to get stock of these (seen multiple people reselling on gumtree for $150+). The RRP versions of this usually end up on the main page so there are people who want to know about it at least.

      • -8

I know they're "rare" (it's a rule straight out of the Nintendo playbook to release something in limited numbers and proclaim it a success once it sells out), and I do appreciate you taking the time to post, but I'd like to see the mods police this a bit more and move posts like these to forums.

I don't have an issue that it's not a bargain but since it's going for RRP it shouldn't be cluttering up the main page, making it difficult for those looking for actual bargains.

        • They are not even all that rare, People "may" be advertising them for above $150, but most are selling well below that by the resellers which is a good indication they are struggling to offload them all.

        • +2

@gromit: Look on eBay. Heaps sold over $150. One sold a week ago for $285. Certainly not as easy to offload NES mini but profits are still being routinely made on these.

        • +1

Just because you define bargain as price less than RRP doesn't mean others would. The fact is this post still has significantly more than average up-votes speaks clearly for its value proposition. The only thing cluttering up the forum is arrogant comments like yours.

    • +3

Agree not a bargain in the spirit of this site. Maybe we should have a new category here called OzRarity

  • +2

Cool would be keen if I had more time and less of games waiting to be played pile

    OzSamePriceItsAlwaysBeen.com … OzNotBargain.com

  • -5

This is getting ridiculous. When are the prices going to start going up so I can flip mine…

    • +1

      OMG you monster!

      (same here)

      • +1

Judging by gumtree, probably a while. Seen like 20 listed locally this month and none of them have sold with the lowest being $150.

        • There was some nice flips on ebay in the first week, not massive increases but increases for sure. $30 to $80

        • -3

          @hamwhisperer:

Quite disappointing. Not sure if I should risk it and wait till closer to Christmas or if I should just offload mine now at cost price before I take a loss.

        • -4

@nurries: Well my guess is end of first week, beggining second week of Xmas is the time to offload - we'll see, if I lose, I lose - I don't care.

        • -3

          @hamwhisperer:

Worst comes to worst I'll just hold mine for a couple years and the price will then definitely go up.

        • @hamwhisperer: by xmas there should be so many on the market that you will be lucky to break even. They are still manufacturing them and will be for some time yet. These are not going to be in such short supply like the NES mini, even those should crash in price soon with them intending to start up production again.

  • How did they get these in stock?!

    • The NES Mini was a limited run.

The SNES Classic is not. Expect a ton of stock before christmas.

      • My understanding is that SNES classic is still going to be limited, just a lot more?

        • Well yeah I guess it's limited, but limited to enough qty's to cover demand albeit slowly

        • not quite, They will be making them for a limited time, but that time will be well into next year.

      • +2

And the NES Mini is back in production in 2018 aswell. I'd recommend offloading your NES Minis if you are holding stock.
I hope to God they don't call it "NES Mini Second Print" to create an artificial market there.

        • -1

I have one NES Mini and several SNES mini, my intention was to flip v.close to xmas.

        • +3

          @hamwhisperer:

Don't think you will get anything with the mini SNES, might even lose money. No stock shortages. Just make sure you ditch the mini NES prior to 2018 and you will be fine.

Good to see plenty of new stocks

  • Bought one a few weeks ago. Haven't had time to play much. Would have been good if they improved the resolution so it doesnt look so bad on my 60inch tv!

    • It doesn't upscale? I expected it would be capable of that at the very least.

Have you tried connecting it to a receiver that can do the upscaling for you?

      • Yes it does upscale, but very blocky.

    • Turn on the crappy CRT effects, and it's much better - scanlines make everything look much better.

      Bare pixels look terrible.

  • are u still able to play teh old cartridges on them or only teh pre installs?

    • Preinstalls, it can't read cartridges.

    • +1

can be hacked, and loaded with other roms
      https://www.reddit.com/r/miniSNESmods/

    • Pre-installed games only. Old cartridges won't work.

    • The entire systems not much larger than the old cartridges were. It’s much smaller than the original.

  • Was worry about oversupply, lucky only brought one earlier. At this rate, it's going to end up under my Christmas tree.

  • called jb hifi adn they have heaps in stock .

  • +11

I hope scalpers got burnt this time around.

  • Are there any good bags/cases for this yet? I got the RDS industries NES classic bag and it's hands down the best way to cart it around.

  • +2

Well I'm going to buy it for my husband's birthday so, thank you. I only just came back from holidays recently and didn't even know about this version. Comes with 2 controllers unlike the nes mini. I never had Nintendo growing up but I like the look of the snes controllers better. I hope that's not blasphemy for the diehards.

  • -8

    no bargain listed

plenty of stock available at retailers since launch

  • +4

Good to see the plentiful supply beginning to flood the market.

    Scalpers can EAD.

  • U can flip it for a profit at cex who are buying them for $145
    https://au.m.webuy.com/product-detail/gaming/microconsoles/n…

    • is that site reliable?

Some whirlpool posters have said they sent the item and didn't receive any payment for it

      • Maybe go in store rather than over the web. That way u can be sure they pay u

  • +5

Dear scalpers, you may now start gifting them to friends and family. Open a box for yourself also, fun little gadget.

  • I picked up one at BIGW today when i went to get mario for the switch. Was a original stock that just come out of layby this morning :)

  • +1

Australia is filed to the brim with these things

  • +1

omg, having the original snes controllers in as new condition, is anyone else lovin' that as much as me?

    • +1

Yes, getting fresh out the box snes controller in 2017 is pretty special.

  • Whispers have inside information that EB games has a stockpile of these waiting for the Christmas rush.

  • All I want to play is terranigma! I installed some roms like paperboy2 etc etc that works, but I cannot find a working terranigma rom!! :( Anyone know a workaround?

  • Thanks, picked one up this morning. Easy plug into TV HDMI and TV USB for power.

A lot of work went into the game play with some of these old games and they can be pretty catchy. If I have 15-30 minutes to kill I'd probably rather use this as it's instant on, straight into some fun action. Stupid XBOX always needs 20 minutes to start, update, log in blah blah. Too much nonsense.

Often these days old things are disregarded because they are old. Just because something is old does not mean that it's not good.

  • Is there any way to play Super Mario Bros. on this?

    • Not built-in, but you can add Super Mario All-Stars (along with pretty much any other SNES game) using Hakchi, if you don't mind doing a little bit of hacking. Check out www.reddit.com/r/minisnesmods for help, it's pretty simple.

  • We have an Xbox one with all the main games but my 6 yr old girl loves this thing more.
Quality game play can beat cpu and hi res.

  • And all sold out… for now.

  • This is NOT a bargain. They are in stock everywhere.
