  • Does such a Citibank account charge foreign transaction fees?

    • as per website t&cs

Terms and conditions apply and are available on request.

Citibank Australia does not charge Citibank Plus everyday account holders a fee when they withdraw funds from an international ATM or use their Citibank Debit Card to make in-store purchases overseas. Customers may be charged by the third party provider, which Citibank Australia does not control.
The receiving bank may charge a fee.

      • So, unclear if fee charged in australia if using a website to purchase from international destination ?

citibank plus is one of those card that will not incur foreign transaction fees when making a purchase in different currency
I had only started using it since this year (mainly due to it has been discussed a lot in here, and people in ozbargain always recommend getting either the 28 degree card or the citibank plus when purchasing online that has a different currency on it. So if you an ozbargainer you should have either one of them =) )

To put it in short, if you buy something that has a different currency on it like GBP, USD, EUR…etc. there will not be any foreign transaction fees with citibank, unless the merchant on their side charge you the transaction fees.
So for example, if you got to amazon us or uk to buy something. If you use the citibank plus card for payment, there will not be any other charges incur in your account except for the amount of purchase. And the currency exchange rate will be based on the mastercard exchange rate, not the citibank exchange rate.

exchange rate for everyday can be found here:

          occur

          * incur

        • @greenpossum: thx buddy =)

        • thx for info

  • Got the email too. This is the new Citibank Plus account card, changing from Visa Debit to Mastercard Debit.

  • Email means targeted since it's only for people who got a new card. Also some people have already changed (I didn't get this offer) and some are yet to.

  • first activate your new Citibank Debit card and then spend $100 or more, before your old Visa Debit card expires.

I assume you'd need to spend the $100 on the new card?

    • You have to activate the new card once received because the old one will be deactivated. It's the same account anyway.

  • So do you need to claim it or does it automatically happen?

      wait for 2nd reminder email

  • Ugh. I got the new card and got a reminder but no offer. Should have waited longer (10/17 exp).

    • +2

      1st reminder no offer
      only appears on 2nd reminder

  • BTW if you got a new card you should set the PIN on it even if you want to keep it the same. I activated the new card before going overseas but when I tried to get cash from an ATM it was rejected. Luckily I had the Citi app and used to set the PIN after which it worked.

    • Same.

    • Wish i read this lol. Overseas with no cash sucks!

      • I always carry a second card and some Aussie dollars for backup.

  • Woeful deal.

    1) You have to deal with citi
    2) Targeted
    3) $15 is a pitiful amount

    • +1

Indeed, SO GENEROUS, go read your feedback Citi, one of the worst banking companies operating here

    • 1 and 2, ok, but..

      $15 is a pitiful amount

Say that on an AMEX Statement credit deal. This is arguably better (for those that have been targeted) because it's basically a $15 statement credit for $100 spent on anything.

That, plus consider 10c/L off targeted deals. The real dollar saving is surely less than $15 but they're pretty popular.

Personally I don't like Citibank as I had very bad experience with them, their customer service is awful. That's why I delayed activating my debit card as I have no plan to use it, they sent me the card in May or June.

  • Hm I still haven't gotten any communication about being changed over to a Citibank Mastercard. I only know about the transition because of comments here

  • Literally have my new Citi Plus card in front of me and about to activate… I will wait! Actually cant log in to my account anyway as my phone is still inactive from attempting to move to Optus 20 days ago and I cant get a sign in pin.

  • So can the Visa card be used until the expiry on the card or will there be a forced changeover before then?

    • My understanding is the the old card expires either at the expiry date or when the new card is activated, whichever is the sooner.

  • I just activated my new card and didn't get this offer.

  • I failed. I did an online visa transaction that settled the next month after expiry of my original Visa debit card. :(

    • Same happened to me. The transaction was made in October but it wasn't processed until November 1. Of course.

  • I didn’t get this offer. Received my second reminder to activate email today and no mention of any cash back.

  • Does it have to be in a single transaction? No EFT?
