  • Is UseNet still in the toilet with rampant DMCA take-downs within 24-48 hours?

    • +1

      Yep, 100%….
      Everybody look over there…..

      • UseNet isn't some big secret anymore.

It is continually being targeted with take-downs and providers have even been forced to provide IPs of users.

        • Got any links to this?

I suspect they're chasing uploaders, not the grabbers. Distribution of copyrighted content is a serious offence under the law (which why they can target torrents successfully). But purely downloading. Not so serious & not really worth their time as the economic loss (which is what they sue for) is less then 1min of lawyers fees.

As for take downs. Nothing recently that I've notices. But stuff from 2-3yrs ago is still missing. Although having said that in the past 2-3 weeks its been a bit slow for aome things to make it.

        • @supabrudda:

Yes, just uploaders currently. But there's nothing stopping that being expanded to downloaders too.

        • @PainToad: money is what stops them.

If you download say 12 eps of GoT, its cost them under $40 in lost revenue. Thats what they can sue you for. To engage lawyers to chase that down, would be in the many $10,000's so its not worth their time.

    • These servers are in the Netherlands, so, I think not.

      • Last time I used UseNet, being Netherlands based only gave you a few more hours before the take-down would occur.

No point having 1100 days of retention when stuff is removed within 24-48 hours.

        • Have a look on https://nzbfinder.ws, to find content, with a free account, it should be on XSNews. I didn't have a problem with popular TV shows, and older movies. Then again, they are popular, so many copies.

You can setup a free 30 trial to test it, then cancel, or pay €8 for a month at 8MBit.

      • Still happens but less often.

I rarely have issues since I changed to some of the netherlands based providers, astraweb was just awful

It's why you setup automation, so within a few hours you have what you need.

I use usenet.farm and find as long as I get new content within 7 days it still works.

Sometimes need the par2 files, but usually all is good.

  • I'm using them now. I think I bought in when it was 60% off. I got 4 years of access.

  • Can anyone PM me a decent NZB Private API site, eg nzbmatrix like. MY ones hvae gone to the toilet.

  • Hmm. I think block accounts suits my use case better, too bad there aren't many sales on blocks anymore

    • +2

Newsgroupdirect often have block sales. There was one last week $us15 500gb and every month they have terabyte Tuesday 2tb $60
