How did you get that price? Through a different provider?
It was Scoopon and we used a group that had a great TripAdvisor rating and as it turned out it was just the two of us so completely private and tailored
Local guide cost $20-25AUD per day
Meals + tea house accomodation $15-20AUD per dayNo Bargain at all!
Have you done this yourself? Any good sites for someone wanting to do it, but wants more info?
I would suggest researching on the hike then just head to Thamel, Kathmandu and look for a local company. These 3rd party Western company subcontract it out to these local companies anyway.
Mind you, a hike like the Everest Base camp is easily done without a guide/porter. The trek is so well hiked and supported that you can do it yourself.
Is this per person? I'm curious to try to organize a trek for 2 of us, so just trying to get a ballpark estimate of the daily cost.
If I understand everything correctly, you mainly need a porter (I assume people carry too much luggage to hike with it yourself), a guide, accommodation, and food. What would you say this costs for 2 people on a 10-12 day hike. We are not fussy at all, so I'm not even really sure if we'd need a guide and a porter.
Depends what you carry.. when I did it, I didn’t have a porter.
For example, EBC trek has tea houses along the way. The provide a mattress, food and toilet facility. All you really need is a change of clothes, sleeping bag and some food.
It’s my hard carrying your own gear.
From memory, they charged a 100 rupees for the night. But you get charged 1500-2000 for food to offset the accomodation cost.
So food and accomodation is per person. The guide/porter is shared.
Is it AUD$ or USD$.
