At least based on what they normally give you, anything is better.
Personally I would just get a decent quality router with wireless, this one is way overkill for wireless unless your main computer connectivity is wireless.
If your default router is fast enough (both WIFI and Internet speed), not dropping out, has a good signal and is not giving you any trouble or missing advanced features you'd use, no.
I'm suffering through with a shockingly broken Telstra Broadband Gateway Max cabke router. (Netgear C6300BD but with buggy Telstra Firmware). I use a WRT54GL for DHCP because DHCP reservations on the C6300BD only work sometimes. If it saves me spending $200 on another router, why not?
NBN is supposed to be scheduled for last half of next year. I'll re-evaluate when I move across. I really want 40Mbps upload!
I gave up on my Telstra gateway at my business. TPLINK ADSL archer is doing fine.
Better to get the Ubiquiti AP Pro instead.
With the recent KRACK vulnerability, Netgear might not update it but Ubiquiti have already patched it and released an update.
DDWRT ftw
why is it so much cheaper than msy $399??
EDIT:
i see msy is actually selling R8000. wonder whats the differenceFor the average user? Marketing.
I think R8000 is AC3200.
Just found this link
looks like r7900 may be right for me

My experience with a R8000 has been terrible. Unexplained resets every few minutes to hours. Not reconnecting to W10 properly after these self reboots. The forums are awash with complaints. I would stay away personally.
The day I changed to a VR2600 TP-Link - all my problems fixed.
I have the default optus router given with nbn modem. Do i need this in my life?
